Yesterday’s results

Spooky93 cleared another hurdle in his quest for $1 million when Lance Berkman went yard against Dodgers lefty Eric Stults in his first at-bat. The BTS leader hung on by a thread for the second straight day, as Berkman’s first-inning homer was his only hit in a 1-for-2, two- walk performance. On Sunday, spooky93 picked Michael Young, who squeaked out a 1-for-5 effort to keep the streak alive.

berkmanbts275.jpgTwo contestants extended their streaks to 24 games and made their way into the Top 5 as yesterday’s third-place contestant fell from the leaderboard after picking Derek Jeter (0-for-4 ). Erika_martins rode a 1-for-4 effort by Carlos Guillen, while slumley capitalized on a 2-for-6 day from the surprising Mike Aviles.

Yesterday’s most popular pick, Derrek Lee, thwarted fans with an 0-for-4 effort. Lee, who was picked by 12.9 percent of the contestants, entered the game with five hits in 10 at-bats lifetime against Giants lefty Barry Zito, but couldn’t manage a hit in six trips to the plate.

Another 1 hit day for the Spookster. When will this end? I know you need luck on your side to win this but this is too much!

Its time for Spookster to take a fall. Anyone else with me?

  2. joearelli@yahoo.com

BTSPLAYER.YOUR ALL ON YOUR OWN.I’M WITH SPOOKY,ALONG WITH ALOT OTHERS I’M SURE.WHATS YOUR STREAK AT BTSPLAYER.ARE YOU ANYWHERE TO BE FOUND.THAT’S WHAT I THOUGHT.YOUR STILL ON JV TRYING TO MAKE VARSITY.OR HAVE YOU ALREADY FALLEN ON YOUR ***.

  3. rip2thecompetition

When I win it all you guys will be truely amazed. Tell me who has picked guys like Jody Gerut (Padres), Edgar Gonzalez (Padres) and Alexei Ramirez (White Sox)? I got my strategy I just need luck on my side.

  4. trills64@yahoo.com

this is the second time i am writing this message. on june 24th after mlb unlocked everyones picks for the day, spooky 93 showed no selection. the next day it showed vladdy guererro as his pick for the 24th. anybody want to explain that.

  5. rip2thecompetition

..I believe..or it coulda been the next day like you said but right when the picks locked I saw that and I remember checking later and seeing he had the same guy I chose, Vladdy, and I was shocked by it. I thought they mighta pulled a scam and gave him a pick for a good story. The only way they’d let him lose is if his guy didn’t get a hit for everyone to see.

  6. 00jvairo_7

If he loses, I do NOT want it to be an 0 for 1. That’s just unfair, especially if the player didn’t start.

Go 0 for 7 like Cristian Guzman did. It was infuriating and I was pissed, because the guy in front of him was 5 for 6 and his average was like 40 points lower, but at least you knew he got his opportunities.

Finally, I don’t think a 1 for X day is a bad day. I used to think the same thing, but what is the record for most 2 for X days anyway?

  7. rip2thecompetition

I don’t think players go 0-1 much unless you’re taking a guy who is semi-injured/a guy who doesn’t always start and gets used as a pinch-hitter. I never see Ichiro, Reyes, Kinsler, etc. go 0-1.

I agree, 1 for X is perfectly fine by me. 2-3 hits in a game is a really good day at the plate. You can’t expect the majority of your streak to be made up of multi-hit games. A hit is a hit in this game, that’s all you need is one hit to keep it going.

  8. mrsil

If steriods increase your homerun power then maybe steriods can boost your piciking power. Spooky93 must be on steriods because this guy is just too good.

  9. guzzir@yahoo.com

Go Spooky 93- Sounds like we got some jealousy going on here-How can you not root for THE SPOOK MAN at this point??

  10. Beat the Streak

There was a minor page caching issue on Tuesday, June 24 that caused some front-end display issues. Spooky93 picked Vlad Guerrero at 9:09 AM on Tuesday, 10 hours before the deadline. The Standings page on Tuesday night was showing all user’s picks as of 4 AM Tuesday morning, which is why it appeared that no pick had been made.

The display issue was fixed around 9:45 PM and all proper picks displayed then, at which point the correct pick of Vlad Guerrero appeared. Hope that helps clear up any confusion.

WILL YOU MARRY ME SPOOKY.I HAVE BEEN WATCHING YOU FOR MORE THAN A MONTH AND I THINK YOU ARE SOO HOT.I WAKE EACH DAY JUST WAITING TO SEE YOUR PICK.WIN THE MILLION AND TAKE ME AWAY WITH YOU.

  12. spudart

It’s the end of June. How about we do a recap on how we did this past month?

For the month of June I got 23 correct picks out of 28. (there were a couple days where the players went 0-for-0–hence the 28 instead of 30). In June my longest streak was 12 games (nearly tieing my season high of 13).

    My season totals so far:
    April: 7-for-9 (77.8%)
    May: 24-for-28 (85.7%)
    June: 23-for-28 (82.1%)

I just broke onto the leader board today with 21 straight. Prior to that, I had a 7 gamer broken when Matsui took the “collar.” Otherwise, I’d be at 29 today.

I’d be really stressed out if I was in the mid 40’s and $1 million staring me down…even if Spooky doesn’t get 57, he still has a good chance at collecting $10k. $10k is not a bad day’s work 🙂

Best of luck to everyone playing.

Spudart, those #s are not impressive for this contest. I bet most people who play this everyday put up at least those #s. Its the one day your hitter that does not come through that counts.

Knowing Spookster, he will probably go with Berkman or Crawford. I hope he goes with Crawford and his luck runs out. Twice he barely got away with Crawford.

In any case, I am making a vodoo doll right now with the name his name in the center. If this does not work, I am heading down to Jamaican/Haitian neighborhood near me for professional help in kabashing his streak.

the standings pages i saw tuesday evening SAID NO SELECTION. i do not buy the fact of there being a minor page cache problem because there were no front display problems,. everyone else had picked on both pages, the ones with the current streaks and the one with the longest streaks of the season.

    somrthing still smells FISHY

  16. backrubs

MetsFan, i lost streaks twice last year to players not starting and in fact coming in as a pinch hitter. one was ichiro, and right now, i can not remember the other. so
    0-for-1 do happen on occassion

  17. jeterford@yahoo.com

JUST GOT THE SPOOKY’S PICK –> ALEX RODRIGUEZ

LET’S ALL MADONNA TOOK SAPPED ALL THE ENERGY OUT OF HIM. BTW, ISN’T AROD MARRIED?? HOW DOES THIS WORK? IF YOU’RE RICH AND FAMOUS, YOU HAVE A WIFE AND MANY GFS??

  18. btsplayer@yahoo.com

No, I think he is gonna go with Cristian Guzman. That fits his MO. Maybe Brian Giles. Still poking away at my Spooky vodoo doll right now.

  19. backrubs

it would not surprise me if he stayed with berkman.
hasnt he stuck with a player two nights in a row a few times?

  20. 00jvairo_7

For Jenny: You can marry me, as long as I meet you first and see that you do not look hideous.

I have never met a girl before that actually enjoys this contest and I normally spend 2-3 hours a day on analysis of the day’s games.

Of course that time includes the HR and Survivor contests too though.

  21. mrsil

Spooky could pick Julio Lugo and still get it right with the streak he is on.
Hey Jenny, Spooky needs a date because I think he lives in his mother’s basement and spends his whole day deciding his pick. If you don’t mind pale guys he could be for you.

  22. mdrangersfan01

Its not that we are jealous..if Spooky reaches 57 this thing is over and we go home empty handed…..H’es due for an 0 for….hopefully toniht..I was bummed when Berkman hit a HR in the first lst night

  23. btsplayer@yahoo.com

I just hope Spookster does not pick Guzman. If he did, we both move up which does nobody any good here.

I would rather end my streak here than have Spookster move on. Better off starting from zero than have it all end before the all star game.

    I put a spell on you…

  24. 00jvairo_7

I know with the HR portion, if someone wins early in the season, a 2nd season starts, but since Beat the Streak is so long, I’m not sure what would happen.

You’d only have about 85 days for 57 games and since it took 8 years to do that, they might just not bother.

  25. mdrangersfan01

The rules state that once someone reaches 57 games the contest is over…that would suck halfway throough the season!

  26. btsplayer@yahoo.com

Spookster went with Suzuki. Always a surpriser just to taunt the rest of us.

Lets hope Litsch pitch a close to no hit game because that is what we will need to shut down a little pesky Suzuki.

I need to call Jesse Litsch before the game? Anyone have his #?

Last yr, I recall the first guy to get to 41 died at that point because he picked Holliday and the opposing no name pitcher pitched a one hitter.

Then came someeon else who got to 45 but don’t recall how he lost.

Then there was PRKID?? (a real kid) who died because I think Ordonez was taken out of the game after 2 at bats.

Then there was MKARATZIA who I think simply did not make a good pick. Was it Ryan Bruan? Can’t recall.

We will need a miracle here for Suzuki to not get a hit.

  27. mdrangersfan01

Suzuki went 0 for 4 yesterday…an he go two games in a row without a hit…doubtful…but here’s hoping

  28. 00jvairo_7

“The rules state that once someone reaches 57 games the contest is over…that would suck halfway throough the season!”

Same with the HR portion, but they simply start a “new” contest called Beat the Streak: Season 2.

The question would be whether there is enough time to play a 2nd season.

  29. 00jvairo_7

“Lets hope Litsch pitch a close to no hit game because that is what we will need to shut down a little pesky Suzuki.”

That would not matter. I’ve had 2-3 instances already this year with Ichiro where the Mariners collected 2 hits as a whole the entire team, but Ichiro had one of them!

  30. jeterford@yahoo.com

YEAH, I KNOW ABOUT THAT. I REMEMBER JERRYMOHR WAS AT THE LUCKY END OF THAT SUZUKI HITS. I THINK ONE GAME WAS WITH VINCENT PADILLA WHOM SUZUKI OWNS BUT HAS BEEN PTICHING WELL THIS YR. SUZUKI RIPPED THE FIRST AT BAT HIT AND THAT WAS IT AND SAME PRETTY MUCH FOR THE REST OF THE TEAM.

I ALREADY WROTE OFF TODAY AS SPOOKY93 MOVING ON FOR TOMORROW AS SOON AS I SAW THE PICK.

SUZUKI WAS 0FOR4 BUT HALLADAY PITCHED A BEAUTY YESTERDAY. THE DAY BEFORE HE GOT LIKE 4 OR 5 HITS. SUZUKI IS NOT AS RELIABLE THIS YR BUT I AM SURE HE WILL COME THROUGH FOR SPOOKY93.

  31. backrubs

i dont know about Ichiro, hes been kinda flaky all year long. i am so use to seeing him hitting over 300 but i do hope that this streak ends and soon. if its true that the game is over when someone breaks the 56 game streak, im not sure i want it broken.

  32. westergarddav88@hotmail.com

to the dude who spends 2-3 hours analysing each day’s games for the 3 contest, you need to find some other hobbies as that is ridiculous…15-20 minutes tops is all it should take…chowder…

  33. bvallera@yahoo.com

Give credit where it is due … hitting 57 is going to take a combination of luck and skill just as though it was the real deal. After coming close to stringing together some long streaks, my hat is off to anybody who wins this – and to those responsible for the payout (no, I don’t work for Mitchum or MLB.com).

I’m sorry if I didn’t explain myself. I was not posting my numbers to brag, but to share. I know I don’t have high numbers as I never appeared on the official longest current streak board. I was just hoping to hear how other people’s numbers are doing. I find it interesting other than spooky, that the owners of the 25 longest streaks of the season currently don’t have a streak over six games.

I enjoy picking players every day. I like to compare numbers with my brother. I was just hoping to hear some numbers from the people on this board to build some community.

  35. backrubs

i had no problem picking for Wednesday, and my player got a HOMERUN in his first at bat. that was Pedroia.
