Yesterday’s results

Two BTS top dogs fell from grace this past weekend, as Nicklarsen84 and Motorhead lost their streaks at 35 and 34 games, respectively.

That paved the way for buhtter, diamondmike and jagzrule77 to pull into a three-way tie atop the leaderboard.  Each rode a different player to 34-game streaks, as buhtter took Hanley Ramirez (3-for-5), diamondmike selected Joe Mauer (2-for-5) and jagzrule77 got a 1-for-4 effort from Andre Ethier.

Breathing down the necks of the Top 3 are rbier2000 and thatsawinner, who are at 33 games apiece.

Yesterday’s Top 5 most selected players

1. Hanley Ramirez (FLA): 12.7%, 3-for-4
2. Ichiro Suzuki (SEA): 11.1%, 1-for-4
3. Albert Pujols (STL): 7.3%, 1-for-3
4. Joe Mauer (MIN): 6.0%, 2-for-5
5. Chipper Jones (ATL): 4.2%, 0-for-2

champion_88 ———- Don’t give up for the season. This is our 6 weeks of spring training. Try out a new plan to keep a streak going. I tried going with the “Kings at the Plate” players only and saw that this was going nowhere. Now I’m looking at top of the order hitters v. weak pitchers. Think outside the box and keep me posted. I went with Hanley Ramirez on Sunday and Shane Victorino on Monday. I’m taking a hard look at Ichirio for Tuesday.
There is a reluctance of players to post who they picked each day before the game locks in place. Please —-The odds of winning this thing are 100million to 1. Why be afraid to post who you like and why you like them!

Ichirio better get a hit tonight or the leader board tomorrow is going to look as empty as the last Nationals home game of the season!
    Good Luck Guys!

Ichiro is out for today and probably tomorrow. He was my pick for today, so I and all the others who picked him get a ‘bye’ for the day. I’d rather have a hit than a bye, but thems the conditions that prevail.

I have been thinking that a reasonable ‘goal’ for me (for right now, anyway) is to have my streak alive at any time in September. After today, there are 41 days left in the baseball season. I have a 17 game hitting streak going into today, and if Ichiro is as injured as the reports say and doesn’t get an 0-for-1 pinch hitting appearance tonight, I’ll have a 17-game hitting streak tomorrow. At this point, a DNP is almost as bad as breaking my streak. I’ve got one more spare day, in addition to today, to still have a chance at 57.

Given that new constraint, I may alter the way I am picking these players. BTS locks 5 minutes before the first game of the day, meaning that the early game or games has a posted lineup prior to the lock. I may need to look at both the early lineup and the weather to at least make sure my selection is starting on that day. This may result in some unorthodox selections, but necessity can sometimes be the mother of invention.

I’ve got a 10 gamer now and picked Ichiro. A little upset that he’s not playing tonight. My 4 other considerations (utley, Howard, Braun, and Fielder) all got hits today so I lost a good chance to get to 11. Tomorrow looks tough but I’m going with Hanley Ramirez as of now. I’m 45-5 but only a high streak of 18 to show for it since the start of July.

Wow. No Ichie today. I almost went with him but his performance last 3 days stopped me. I know Mazzaro is a good match for Ichie but he has been pitching slightly better this month. I was thinking with weak Ichie and out-of-nowhere gold medal pitching from Mazzaro could end it all. And Mazzaro is capable of doing it. He was a top draft pick a couple of yrs ago. Now, we know why Ichie has been so lackluster in Cleveland.

Its 99.9% certain now that 1.5 mil won’t be touched this year. I am just shooting for Tanner’s 45. That looks possibly reachable for me. But 12 more games after that would be really tough. Its like getting 5 of 6 lottery numbers. Its only 1 number but the odds are like another million to one from there.

I was gonna hit Ichie tomorrow for sure but must search a replacement.

Just imagine Ichie comes in for pinch hit and strikes out. Man, the insurance co. honcho would be busting out the bubblies tonight.

Man, that bothers me even more then. I think if we had known that Ichiro was playing hurt, that probably would have been enough for me to flip to Cabrera Saturday, since it was close for me to begin with.

If it was not close, it would not have bothered me as much, since outside of him, most of the other players I would have switched to, also failed.

I am at 15 games and with ichiro sitting monday, best I can do is 56 games, unless they have a 1 game playoff or they need to do a makeup game.

That would be sweet to win it on a makeup game

They should modify the game next year so you have a primary pick and a secondary pick for the day, but then the way they have it drives traffic to their site as you check on injury reports, etc.

If you get to 56 games on the last day, then you should be able to try for 57 on opening day, just like a normal hitting streak.

    Help me out guys!

What site do you go to to get injury reports?
Is Ichirio hurt or was he just rested on Monday?

I went to the Mariners web site and it said Ichirio has a sore calf. Think about this one!
    He may play Wednesday.
Mariners are at home on astro turf – not good on those 35 year old legs.
I doubt that he pinch hits on Tuesday unless the game goes into extra innings or he us up in a situation where he does not have to run hard – winning run on 3rd base and Ichirio bats then.
He could ground out in the first inning on Wed and leave the game with leg tightness!
Time to step away from “The Little Magician” until he gets better.
Who do you guys like tonight?

I picked Ichiro for last night and was disappointed that he didn’t play. I’m at 23 games right now. I’m amazed that I’m at 23 right now. I can’t even imagine how some people are in the 30s. The way I see it, this whole thing is 80% luck and 20% skill. At the beginning I didn’t really think or analyze my picks too much. Now that I’m in the 20s I find myself over-analyzing more and more. Anyways, I’m thinking of going with Carl Crawford tonight vs. Brett Cecil. What do you all think?
