Tuesday’s recommended picks

Joe Mauer, C, Twins
.365 AVG in 2009

Stephen Drew, SS, Diamondbacks
.400 AVG (4-for-10) lifetime vs. Padres starter Chris Young

Pablo Sandoval, 3B, Giants
.330 AVG in 2009

BTS all-time leader: Michael Karatzia, 49
MLB all-time leader: Joe DiMaggio, 56

Yesterday’s results

Hitters reigned supreme on Opening Day, bringing an abundance of offense that made it a pleasant day for BTS participants.

Fourteen of the 15 Top players selected collected at least one hit, with only Cubs first baseman Derrek Lee (0-for-3) showing up empty-handed to the party. That output allowed a huge chunk of fans to extend their season-opening streaks to two games.

That may not seem like much, but remember, the Roman Empire was built one brick at a time, so keep those picks coming.

Yesterday’s Top 5 most selected players

1. Ichiro Suzuki (SEA): 14.5%, 1-for-4
2. Chase Utley (PHI): 9.9%, 1-for-3
3. Albert Pujols (STL): 8.4%, 4-for-5
4. Joe Mauer (MIN): 8.2%, 1-for-4
5. Matt Kemp (LAD): 6.8%, 2-for-5

Can anyone explain why Joe Mauer would be one of the Kings today? He is 0-8 against the lefty Saunders. Clearly there are plenty of other better choices, no?

Hi entel,
Last year I commented OFTEN that the King’s at the Plate choices for the day vary TREMENDOUSLY. You have advanced information from your research that illustrates my point very well. Take a daily look at the Kings each day – but do not rely on them as information that you can count on as “gospel.” My belief is the guy who updates the blog each day spends about 40 seconds to put together the Kings at the Plate each day.

I had Ryan Braun yesterday and I had a 2 day streak going into last night. However my streak never updated and it says under Braun “not yet scored” even though he went 1-4. Can somebody tell me what time MLB.Com updates the stats for beat the streak? I just wanna make sure I’m getting credit for my players.

Thanks much appreciated!

They usually have it updated within 30 minutes of the game going final.

Occasionally, I have seen there being problems of it lagging by a few days, but they usually end up fixing it eventually.

Worst case scenario, if you win, it would not be hard for you to prove your case.

And I agree with the King’s picks being random.

One time I saw him pick a hitter that was hitting .160! just because he was 6 for 6 in his career off a starter.
