Beat the Streak Report: Tuesday, April 13

Davis480BTS.jpg

Tuesday’s recommended picks

Rajai Davis, OF, A’s
.444 AVG (4-for-9) lifetime vs. Mariners starter Doug Fister

Derek Jeter, SS, Yankees
.435 AVG (10-for-23) lifetime vs. Angels starter Ervin Santana

Dan Uggla, 2B, Marlins
.455 AVG (5-for-11) lifetime vs. Reds starter Bronson Arroyo

BTS all-time leader: Michael Karatzia, 49
MLB all-time leader: Joe DiMaggio, 56

Yesterday’s results

With 18.1 percent of participating fans going with Philly’s Chase Utley, a hefty chunk of the BTS leaders would have fallen from the pack had the All-Star second baseman come up empty-handed.

However, Utley showed why he’s one of the most reliable hitters in the game with a fifth-inning home run off Washington’s Jason Marquis, keeping many early streaks alive.

With nine days of play in the books, several hundred users remain tied for the BTS lead, so keep those winning picks coming.

Yesterday’s Top 5 most selected players

1. Chase Utley (PHI): 18.1%, 1-for-3
2. Ichiro Suzuki (SEA): 6.6%, 0-for-4
3. Miguel Cabrera (DET): 5.6%, 1-for-4
4. Matt Holliday (STL): 5.1%, 0-for-3
5. Albert Pujols (STL): 4.8%, 2-for-3

switched my pick to ichiro for the day. he doesnt go hitless 2days in a row often and i dont see it happening here. he also probably want revenge on anderson for keeping him hitless in their first meeting this year. another good option today is any rockies player against john maine who always gives up a ton of hits

  2. vinny1979

It’s not only Anderson Ichiro is having problems with. He isn’t hitting lefties this year at all as he’s hitting at a .083 clip against lefties so yeah. I’m not saying change him but those are the facts about Ichiro.

  3. peteryanidis

After losing my 8 gamer with Ordonez yesterday, no regrets (he did get 5 AB’s), I’m picking him again today as the first of my “19 hitters” to get out that bitter taste of losing.

  4. nardberg

Considered Davis but am going with the Yankees today. Home opener, ring ceremony, etc. etc. Jeter or Granderson -much can be said for either choice (not to mention the daily pick factor) despite the fact they’re playing LAA.

Have an hour to decide. 🙂

  5. peteryanidis

I think Ichiro goes hitless today and tomorrow. Has anybody tried out this system: Choose 19 players who are most likely to get a hit. Then pick each of them 3 times. That will get you to 57 and the $3 Million. That likely won’t happen but at least you will be able to see what kind of record that you can compile, maybe 50-7.

  6. neil_p

How about choosing 57 players who are most likely to get a hit, then picking each of them 1 time. That will get you to 57 and the $3 Million.

  7. dragbunt104

Jeter goes deep in 3rd inning my BTS extends and my HR BTS is now at one!
Yankee Stadium is a launching pad. Is it that way for day and night games or just day games? NYY fan please tip us off.(vinny1979)
I’ll post tomorrow about weather conditions in Chicago for Cubs v. Brewers at Wrigley Field Wed and Thursday afternoon games. The wind may be blowing from S or SW out toward centerfield and temp around 80 degrees.
This is a recipe for HR derby type of games unless starter are in top form.

  8. peteryanidis

That’s what my next strategy will be in 2 months. Each team easily has 2 quality hitters that are capable of getting 1 hit a day. Hopefully MLB increases the prize to $5 million next year.

OKAY anyone posting on here and wanting to get in our little group. the group name is “the bloggers”
right now we have that unlucky (or lucky) number of 13 people there.
and Stephanie. apparently when you join a group, it does not take your whole year into account, in groups, the streak starts when you join a certain group. so that is why its showing your down one on the hit streak.

Good Luck to everyone, Jeter seems to be the pick of choice today

  10. peteryanidis

Wow! 25.7% of the contestants picked Jeter and he got a hit. There will be a big streak breaker this week.

  11. 00liber

Good afternoon guys, read you guys everyday and decided for a change to post something. Good luck to those of you waiting for a hit tonight, and the 25% of you who picked jeter, he just homered. I knew the percentage was gonna be high (didn’t think that high) for him so i stayed away. I’m alot happier with that choice now that Podsednick just singled to take me to 10. Anyone know about how many ppl still have the full streak goin?

    M

  12. peteryanidis

Ordonez got me to a streak of 1. I have Mauer picked for tomorrow as of now. But I might change it if too many people pick him. I’ll give my official pick tomorrow morning.

  13. nardberg

Just looked for “the bloggers” under groups and it isn’t there…..i’ll join!!! where are you?? 🙂

  14. backrubs

nardberg, its there. its public group so anyone can join.
try doing a search just on the word Bloggers and see what you come up with.

  15. nardberg

    That worked – thanks!!!
Went with Jeter today – looks like everyone did lol….
Polanco/Utley look good for tomorrow. Plus Nat’s pitcher has an opp avg of .391. Any thoughts anyone?

  16. renegade6

UGHHH. Burned by Miggy. What was I thinking?

Is it just me or does anyone else feel that with so many people perfect so far….someone will win the 3 Mil with a streak started on Opening Day?

  17. champion_88

“This is going to be fun to see how many people actually pick Davis and Uggla today.”

According to the results page, less than 1.5% of all players picked Davis and less than 1.5% of all players picked Uggla.

  18. champion_88

Yeah, but there is a crystal clear selection in Jeter today.

25.7% of all players had him!

So, the only reason to switch, is if you wanted to try and hope for everyone to lose, but it is too early to find much value in that type of strategy.

Also, Maine always gives up a ton of hits???

His career line is 551.0 IP and only 480 hits allowed!

That is how MLB.com Survivor used to be run when the game was befitting of its name.

2007 back, a new contest started every Monday and once you lost, you were out, but you could start again each Monday.

You were also limited to using each team twice.

If everyone remaining lost, then everyone moved on.

They told you how many players entered each contest and how many remained each day.

The record was ~35,000 in one of the postseason ones.

In the postseason, there was only one contest period and you could pick each team an unlimited number of times.

That 36-game win streak was compiled when the rules were relaxed to the current format, but they kept the name Survivor, because of brand recognition.

The longest people got with the tighter rules was 22 games.

  20. schenk015

champion if your wondering i didnt switch my pick from jeter to ichiro. so the fact that 25% picked had nothing to do with me switching my pick. i switched to ichiro from rowand and im not looking at maines career stats. i pay attention to the last few years where he has be prone to giving up a good amount of hits per outing. when he first came up his ability to gets guys out was much better but now hitters have figured him out so that career line doesnt tell the whole truth about maine

  21. champion_88

“That’s what my next strategy will be in 2 months. Each team easily has 2 quality hitters that are capable of getting 1 hit a day. Hopefully MLB increases the prize to $5 million next year.”

    haha, not necessarily.

    How about the Mariners?

If Ichiro is truly in a slump, you have Figgins and Gutierrez.

And I would not count on Gutierrez for a long stretch of time and Figgins tends to take a lot of walks.

  22. schenk015

and jeter may have been an obvious pick but since i despise the yankees and refuse to pick any of their hitters. ill take my chance with getting a 57 day streak with players from the other 29 teams

“Anyone know about how many ppl still have the full streak goin?

    M”

It was about 1,530 people or so as of this morning at 9 games.

  25. champion_88

“Is it just me or does anyone else feel that with so many people perfect so far….someone will win the 3 Mil with a streak started on Opening Day?”

They used to not show the leaderboard past the front 25 players, but usually by 20-25 games, the leaderboard starts thinning out to under 25 perfect streaks from Opening Day.

If the front page is still loaded by 30 games, I think it might mean something, but it means nothing for now.

If anything, we are already down to just 1% of the players staying perfect so far.

  26. champion_88

“when he first came up his ability to gets guys out was much better but now hitters have figured him out so that career line doesnt tell the whole truth about maine”

    2009: 81.1 IP, 67 H
    2008: 140.0 IP, 122 H
    2007: 191.0 IP, 168 H
    2006: 90.0 IP, 69 H
    2005: 40.0 IP, 39 H

If anything, he gave up more hits when he first came up and even that is not a LOT of hits given up.

  27. 00liber

Thanks CHAMP88. Did u go with Jeter like most ppl, or did you take a chance on someone else? Anyone else that posts on here still perfect?

  28. dragbunt104

    Wednesday April 14 looks promising:
Utley v. Stammen and the Washington Bullpen
Werth is 3 -3 v. Stammen and hitting over .350
Out of the box pick: Cubs Fukadome is hitting .400
Podsednik KC and Francour NYM are on an ubelieveable tears
Holiday Cards at home v. Myers
I’m lost in the potential picks.
hamannm – who do you like?

  29. kenfucious

Pujols killed my streak late last week. Back up to 5 now. Just joined the group!

At 5, it’s nice to see a rank other than “10000+”

  30. infernodragon02@msn.com

With that hit I reach double digits for the first time ever! Thank you Kung-fu Panda, it’s good no longer being a streak rookie.

  31. btle

I picked Evan Longoria today because he did not get a hit in the past few days. I figured it was about time.

I got to see him get his hit in person at Camden Yards. Great game. Cold as hell though.

Evan’s hit today starts my streak again.

I am 7 out of 10 correct as of today. I went 5-0 before Matt Wieters knocked me out.

  32. backrubs

utley is 1-for-3 against Stammen. .346 for year…
Holliday is 6-for-10 against Myers .379 for year…
werth is 3-for-3 against stammen .357 for year…..

ive gotta go with matt holliday on Wednesday

  33. vinny1979

I told you all that Ichiro wasn’t hitting lefties and sure enough he had another 0 for day. Second in a row which means he is due for a hit one would think. I’m back up to 5 and only missed that one day last week. Damn, that’s killing me right now but over 700 people lost their streaks today alone so it’s starting to thin out already. I have Holliday for tomorrow as he looks like a sure thing and I will say something that I did after Thursday.

  34. vinny1979

Dragbunt, Yankee stadium during the day is a hitter’s paradise but not so much at night. Ball stays in the park more at night than it does during the day.

  35. vinny1979

My number was wrong with how many people lost their streaks. It’s 350 people that lost their streaks in one day not 700. My bad. Also Holliday is hitting .435 against righties this year but isn’t hitting lefties either. Myers is a right and he hits him at a .600 clip so he’s my pick.

  36. champion_88

“and jeter may have been an obvious pick but since i despise the yankees and refuse to pick any of their hitters. ill take my chance with getting a 57 day streak with players from the other 29 teams”

ha, then this streak will balance out the streak someone had once that picked only Yankees.

he reached ~35, but then lost when Halladay pitched a 2-hit shutout against the Yankees.

funny thing was that he picked Posada that day who was cold at the time and Jeter and A-Rod both picked up a hit apiece, so his streak should have continued easily.

  37. champion_88

“Thanks CHAMP88. Did u go with Jeter like most ppl, or did you take a chance on someone else? Anyone else that posts on here still perfect?”

I went with Jeter as well.

  38. darwri

OK Its been 2 days since Ichiro got a hit, I don’t care who hes up against I’m taking him with a 5 gamer on the line.

  39. btle

champion_88 – That’s an interesting streak you mentioned with the guy only picking the Yankees.

I went with Matt Holliday today.

Does anyone on here play the other games like the HR streak and survivor.
Those games are pretty tough. I still haven’t gotten to 1 streak with the HR game.
