Yesterday’s results

While there were no big-time streak breakers yesterday, those who went with Joe Mauer likely were cursing their luck for picking him on a rare bad day. Mauer finished 0-for-4 in the first game he started and did not collect a hit this season.

Bit by bit, the huge group clumped at the top of the leaderboard is thinning out. The official count stands at 545; we’ll see how many emerge from the weekend’s action with 15-game streaks.

Yesterday’s Top 5 most selected players

1. Albert Pujols (STL): 13.4%, 2-for-4
2. Joe Mauer (MIN): 6.7%, 0-for-4
3. Prince Fielder (MIL): 6.2%, 1-for-4
4. Robinson Cano (NYY): 5.8%, 2-for-4
5. Dustin Pedroia (BOS): 5.8%, 3-for-4

Lots of good choices tonight. Darn cubs games locking the game 5 hours before every other game. Being a cubs fan though and being able to watch their game today, i’ll probably choose a Cub. Both Prado and Pedroia have been hitting everything lately though. Along with Polanco, Jeter, and Cano having hot starts, I can see a few people who are at 12 start out with 30+ game streaks.

  2. jagx

does the commenting on blog lag for you guys? I never know when i actually posted or not lol.

000liber- I hope so! I switched to D.Lee from Prado. Hope he doesn’t try to go yard though. Just need a single! Winds blowing in -_-

Well i know its early, but 1 guy on front page didnt pick anyone today. I wonder how that seems to happen like once a month every month (seeing someone on front page not pick one i mean). You’re basically in the lead for 1-3 million dollars and you forget to pick? lol

  3. dragbunt104

Wind blowing intoward home plate at Wrigley Field on Friday. Fly balls will get knocked down and become outs.
A low line drive will go out though. Not a HR wind like yesterday at Wrigley. Some nice picks today – Prado, Renteria etc.
I’m going with Utley in a Phils home game.
Looks to be cold in NY and Boston area.
    Good Luck to all today.

  4. 00liber

Thank you Dragbunt, ive been looking around for the last hour trying to get an answer about the wind at wrigley today. Going with Polanco again today, Good luck to all.

JagX- agreed, i like picking in the early game but not when theres only one to pick from, and no offense , and not when its the Cubbies ( they so hit and miss). Since i changed to Polanco, D. Lee will probly go yard a couple times today.

  5. champion_88

I went with Kosuke Fukudome, on virtue of his 0 for 5 yesterday.

Cannot see him making 14 outs in a row.

And he is facing a weak pitcher/team at home.

  6. 00liber

Champ88- because I’m sitting at home with nothing better to do this afternoon, I went through the top 545 and there are 8 ppl who didnt pick. ( 16 ppl other then me with Polanco)
Fuku- fly out, D.Lee ground out first at bat.

A body will preserve its velocity and direction so long as no force in its motion’s direction acts on it. Consequently, all things being equal, a player who hasn’t hit is due to not hit. Betting on the opposite of events predicted by the law of inertia has cost gamblers more money than any other factor.

Check out the weather forcast for each team by going to this site. Very helpful even shows wind direction with a picture of that baseball park.

pperkins – Your second post concerning not picking a player who has not hit previously is well taken. I’m going to start calling you Professor pperkins! Nice Physics reference! Cubs beat Astros – Fukadome goes hitless – D. Lee goes yard! Being a Cub fan – Fukadome had a great April in 2008, 2009 then folded for the rest of the year. He did the same in April 2010 up to now. Maybe it the month of May in Japan?(lol) Stay away from the Koske “Mr April” Fudkdome.

    Life Lesson #1
I, state you name, will not be lured into selecting Joe Mauer because:
    (a)He is pitched to carefully
    (B) He is not afraid to take a walk
    (C)He is a cathcer
    (D) All of the above
Joe Mauer and Albert Pujols are on my BTS do not pick list.
Get smart before you “crash and burn.”

  10. jagx

DLEE!!!!!! He knows how to work an at bat when its his last at bat of the game and manage to hit a homerun as his only hit. Good luck to everyone in the night games.

Guys question: A lot of your posts state that they’ve been posted 1 hour later than my time. Like dragbunt104’s post about Mauer and Pujols says it’s posted at 5:58 est although it’s 5:15 right now. Anyone know how to fix that? My posts are posted on my time, so they appear before other people’s post although i write them after seeing those posts.

  11. btle

The blog posts have been getting messed up lately. Some posts are not slotting correctly in order that they were placed.

Mauer, Pujols, etc.. are guys that I would only pick to restart a streak. I would not be picking them at all if I had a long streak going.

00liber-It’s always interesting to see people with long streaks who forget to pick.

  12. nardberg

After my near miss with Posada, am wondering why everyone is against picking catchers. Posada is actually good enough to DH, and there has been talk of that since he may not be able to continue starting everyday…..just wondering…..good luck to all!!

  13. vinny1979

Just heard the weather of the Yankee game and it will be drizzling at the start and than stop and than rain will hit again after midnight so they are playing.

  14. vinny1979

The problem with the time is I don’t think it’s set to Daylight Savings as it says I posted at 6:48 when it’s only 5:56 PM Eastern.

  15. 00liber

Drag- thanks that will make it easier.
Jag- good on u for the D.Lee switch, does that mean Prado is gonna go 0-fer now?
    Vinny- good luck with Cano.

Totally agree with staying away from the sluggers. I’ve taken mauer once ( which happened to be the night 4 of the 6 most picked went 0-fer. ) No A-rod and stayed away from Puj and Holliday.

Well, he was still hitting .345 going into that game, so it is not as if he has been struggling all season.

I just figured it was unlikely that he would make 14 straight outs, but with my luck, he only got 2 AB’s the whole game.

I usually worry that the red-hot players are due for a “correction day” to calm down their torrid pace.

    dragbunt104″

I would not say that though because Mauer is more of an average hitter than a pure HR hitter.

That 28 HR last year was a career high I think.

Plus, he has good protection behind him with a stronger power threat in Justin Morneau.

  18. champion_88

“The problem with the time is I don’t think it’s set to Daylight Savings as it says I posted at 6:48 when it’s only 5:56 PM Eastern.”

The weird thing is the difference is only about 45 minutes, so they have the minutes wrong too.

And I thought they standardized everyone to “savings” time now?

  19. vinny1979

I think Cano is going to get another 2 hits tonight. I was looking up Jeter and Cano and both have 2 hits in 3 straight games and each has a 9 game hitting streak going to start the season. Don’t want to jinx it at all but I know Cano will come through again tonight.

  20. champion_88

“Drag- thanks that will make it easier.

    Prado already got a hit.

  21. 00liber

    “Prado already got a hit.”

yup so did jeter and cano and Polanco went yard for me. And Puj just hit into Dp. So far so good.

  22. champion_88

Does anyone have a link to a place for a list of a hitter’s average over his last 7, last 10, and last 14 days of games’ played?

I realize that the last 14 days is just the season data right now, but in 1 week’s time, that will not be true anymore.

  23. champion_88

“I think tonight Pedroia won’t get a hit ending a lot of streaks at the top.”

He has at least 2 more chances though.

  24. 00liber

I understand giving Papi the night off, but thats sure putting alot of pressure onto Pedro’s shoulders hitting in the 3 spot.

  25. 00liber

nevermind, apparently i cant read today. regarless, whoever has the night off, i dont agree with pedro hitting 3.

  26. dragbunt104

Utley has 2 hits – streak continues!
This is a test of the emergency bloggers broadcast network.
Repeat this is a time test of the emergency bloggers network. This post was made at 8:17 central daylight savings time. Check to see what time it says in the posting in red below. Repeat this is only a test, in case of a real emergency Albert Pujlos would be walked intentionally with the bases loaded.
    dragbunt104

  27. dragbunt104

Looks like the time is off by almost 2 hours central time.
I’m guessing the blog is on easter time so it seems to be one hour ahead. Time is now 8:19pm Central Daylight Savings time.

  28. 00liber

Puj just grounded out to end 7. 0-4, and they up 4-1, he might not be batting again,

Mauer hit SacFly end of 7 as well, 0-2, if 8th goes1-2-3 and KC doesnt score he;s done as well

    Heres hoping.

Guys – Watch the weather each day.
Saturday has Red Sox v. TBay – night game in Boston temp in 40’s and showers. If you have ever suffered through sitting in the stands for that kind of game imagine hitting under those conditions. Pedroia is listed as a “pick of the day” on Sat. He has hit James “Big Game” Shields well in the past but you have to factor in the weather too. I’m not taking Pedroia. Hanley Ramirez looks promising.

  30. vinny1979

So drag are you telling me to change Pedroia on Sat? I think he will get a hit against Shields but it does say rain for the weather in the game. Also, are any of you surprised Pujols has another 0 fer going as the top pick today?

  31. dragbunt104

vinny1979 – Be careful of Pedroia on Sat. I’m leaning toward Hanley Ramirez, Utley looks OK but I’ve picked him 3 times this week already. I stay away from James Shields games. They don’t call him “Big Game James” for nothing.
nardberg – a pitcher with an 11.42 ERA in April pitching a no hitter is not the same as if he was doing it in July. It’s early in the season and pitching stats are a bit hard to follow. Starters need 5 or 6 starts before you can see who has it and who doesnt.

  32. danpranka@newenglandsportstours.com

Red Sox now in rain delay and the forecast for Saturday is rain and HARD at times… I will stay away from Sox & Rays on Sat… I kind of like Josh Willingham of the Nationals !

  33. dragbunt104

Did you see the spectacular fires after the crash and burns
last night in Minnesota and St. Louis? Mauer 0-3 (got his usual walk) and Pujols 0 – 4. Ludwig batting behind Pujols as Holliday does not start. These guys are risky picks if you streak is above 3 games. Ichirio had 2 hits last night. Is the magic back?

  34. nardberg

Ended my 12 gamer. A bitter pill to swallow for both of us. Back to the drawing board. To answer rwalsh – I do believe the streak will be over. Good luck to both of you and the rest as well…… 🙂

  35. luvmyrox

Apparently BTS is working for everyone but me. I have played the last two seasons, but this year it will not let me. I was only able to pick players the first couple games, but now. . . it won’t let me pick. It only shows the current day, and nothing is clickable. I emailed the BTS mod, but got no response. Arrgh!!

  36. 00liber

Top o the day peeps. It’s a beautiful sunny morning out west here. Hopefully it stays nice in the Bronx, going with Jeter today. Best o luck to all the regulars( and everyone else other than the other 335 ppl)

    M

  37. dragbunt104

nwalsh – Cross you fingers for extra innings in Boston on that suspended game. Your streak is over unless Pedroia gets a hit. Going with Hanley Ramirez today. I’m hoping that the bad Jamie Moyer shows up on the mound tonight in Philly.

  38. dmansmi@gmail.com

Went with Mauer against my beloved Royals. Paid off (BTS to 13 — darn Rockies manager sitting Helton or else I’d be perfect). But now, KC is down 5-2. Argh.

Good luck to everyone. Really curious to see what happens with Pedroia this evening.

  39. champion_88

I went with Ryan Braun today and he singled in his first at-bat!

After back-to-back misses, I am starting back up again!

Surprised to not see anyone else mention him this morning or last night though?!?

  40. dragbunt104

    Tip of the Day…………
Be careful on Monday 4/19 – Fewer games and in Boston, Red Sox are playing TB in the annual Partiots Game at 11:05am EASTERN TIME.
Ryan Braun is hot and he faces Jason “I give up hits in bunches” Marquis on Sunday.
Posted at 1:32pm Central Daylight Savings Time

  41. vinny1979

I have Pedroia in the regularly scheduled game for tonight but before that we have to see what he does in yesterday’s game as he is going to get one more AB in the suspended game in the bottom of the 9th. A lot of streaks may be ended after that game.

  42. vinny1979

I was wrong about Pedroia. He isn’t coming up like I thought. The only way he comes up is if it goes into extras.

  43. champion_88

Wow…I ended up getting lucky with Braun. Livan threw a 4-hit shutout?

And he was signed to a minor-league contract late in spring training and has thrown 16 scoreless IP so far???

  44. vinny1979

Pedroia got the hit for yesterday’s game so everybody that picked him can breathe easy as their streaks continue and Drag good job buddy. Hanley already got his hit. An infield hit but a hit is a hit.

  45. 00liber

Do the Cards not have anymore pinch hitters available? This is the second time in extras that they’ve left the pitcher to bat with bases loaded. Thankfully Puj keeps getting the free pass.

    M

  46. champion_88

Wow…imagine if you had Pujols today…he gets a hit in his EIGHTH plate appearance in the bottom of the 16th Inning!

After the Cardinals nearly won the game four times earlier on!!!

  47. 00liber

Stupid stupid METS, one of the many reason i Hate you so much. Shoulda put Puj on and pitched to pitcher. Merry Christmas BTS users who had Puj.

  48. btle

nardberg- I thought I had a sure pick with Renteria. Then again I should have remembered that Padilla is quite streaky.
The Giants still scored 8. How did Renteria not manage to get a hit? Ugh.

    Sorry about your streak loss.

  49. nardberg

Thanks – sorry about yours as well. I thought it was a sure thing as well. Taking dragbunt’s advice and going with Braun tomorrow. Did you see Polanco had an O-for? And how lucky were the Pedroia people from that suspended game! And the true Boston hater that I am, I can’t say enough how I enjoyed them blow a bases-loaded-nobody-out situation and then give the game to the Rays. Delicious.

  50. dragbunt104

Cards v. Mets – I think a platnium sombrero is a game when a hitter strikes of 5 times. Besides the word awful what would you call it when a player goes 0 – 7? Francour 0 – 7 at the 19th inning.
Leaning toward Braun tomorrow v. Jason Marquis
Derrek Lee v. Wandy Rodriguez (Lefty)
    Magglio Ordonez v. Ian Snell
    Vernon Wellls v. Ervin Santayna
I’m going to sleep on this one.

  51. dragbunt104

Renteria is in a slump – Was batting .524 a week ago now “down” to .326. In the last week he is 3 for 27.
For new BTS players, be sure to select “Players” from the red bar across the top of the screen on the Home Page.
Go to current players on the next screen and put in a players name and you to their stats. This includes how they have done in past 2 weeks. I just checked out Renteria and saw he was 3-27 from 4/10 to 4/17. You can check out pitchers this way too. Much info here.

  52. danpranka@newenglandsportstours.com

    Nardberg,

Here I was feeling sorry for you as we both went down on Renteria, but I can’t forgive you for hating my Red Sox, although I hate Tito… bases loaded no outs he keeps Ortiz in… where is the old squeeze play….He had two opportunities to do it…. I am leaning toward Braun for Sunday… but he has killed me in the past but I will stay away from Pujols… A long night tonight

  53. dragbunt104

btle – After you click on the word Player on the red line near the top of the home page screen, you go to another screen.
Look for the words Player Search in big letters. See where it says active players? Type in the last name of the player you want to look at in that rectangualr box that says Active Players and hit the go box. You get to another screen and you should see that players name, position and team in blue. Click on the name and you will finally get to the stats page I spoke about. I hope this helps. Someone told me about this last year when I was new to BTS.

  54. dragbunt104

btle – When you are on that last page with the player stats.
Check out the 3 boxes above the stats:
Last 10, Upcoming and Quick Splits. As you click on these boxes, you go to another screen that shows pitching match ups for that players next games and his Quick Splits is how he hits at home v. away games, day v. night etc. You are now officially overwhelmed with information about that player.

  55. nardberg

dan – should’ve noticed the rest of your email address earlier! It’s all good – I’m a 3rd generation Yankee fan so it goes with the territory. How I do miss the 1918 chant. 🙂 I will still wish you a long and prosperous streak lol…..Haven’t picked Braun yet. Pujols burned me last year. Jeter is usually my safe pick.

dragbunt – as always thanks so much for all the info…..good luck to everyone!!

  56. vinny1979

I’m going to stick with Francoeur tonight as up until yesterday was the hottest hitter on the Mets. He had a hit every game til yesterday but I like his odds in a night game as he’s hitting .409 and he hits Wainwright well so I will stick with him tonight.

  57. dragbunt104

    Blog Proclamation:
Where as Ichirio Suzuki, of the Seattle Mariners, went 3 for 3 on Saturday April 17 and in addition to that had two hits the previous day and is now batting over .300 let it be known to all bloggers that the “Man from Japan” is back!
Therefore, the Rising Sun is now shining in the sky over all the AL Ballparks where his diminutive shadow is cast and Ichirio is now fully reinstated as a go to pick of the day for the blogging page membership.

  58. vinny1979

I have Ichiro later this week but man tomorrow is going to be a lot of streak breakers I feel it as the game locks at 11:00 AM.

  59. danpranka@newenglandsportstours.com

Ichiro was the first to burn me this year back on 4-8. Have not picked him since then because of his slump. I will wait just a little longer before I jump on his band wagon.

Nardberg…. you’re forgiven…. I have picked Jeter twice this year and both were OK…

This is my second year and last year I made it to 22. Had a great start with 4 straight wins, then 4 losses, 4 straight wins then Rentiera took me down and now at 2. BRAUN today..

Chilly day here in Boston with scattered showers ….
    Good Luck All

  60. vinny1979

I’m just letting everybody know that Jeter is NOT starting today’s game. Lineups are posted for that game and Jeter is not in it as the starter. He will more than likely come in as a pinch hitter late in the game though so beware.

  61. vinny1979

I am currently at a 3 game streak after Holliday cost me a streak 4 days ago. Both Pujols and Holliday cost me long streaks this year and the only ones who have this year so far. I’m staying away from both in this game for now.

  62. backrubs

Vinny, I can laugh at you because those two have also cost me streaks, and im betting they cost us on the same dates as well. Im at three today and going with Ryan Braun.
Tomorrow, with the games locked at 11AM (thanks Patriots Day in Boston) im stuggling between Ordonez and DeJesus.

  63. vinny1979

backrubs, my streaks ended on April 8th and 14th so yeah. I’m picking Cabrera tomorrow. He has to come through against Pinero eventually and he’s hitting good so far this year.

  64. 00liber

Braun just singled to take me to 15 good luck to the rest still waiting. I hope Puj sits tonight and goes 0-1 after pinch hitting.
    M

  65. vinny1979

Nice work Dragbunt. I still like Cabrera against Pineiro and may change before 11 tomorrow morning but we will see.

  66. dragbunt104

Bombs away as the Brew Crew flatten Jason Marquis in the first with a 10 spot. Braun came through for me in the first!
Marquis got no one out! He was at best medicore 2 years ago when he was with the Cubs. Now he is on the lower end of the Nationals rotation. Watch when he pitches.
Monday – I’m looking at the “The Man from Japan” Ichirio as O’s are struggling and Bergesen gives up a lot of hits. Also, this is a home game for Mariners.
Marquis was a solid member of the Cards staff but injuries have hurt him and now he struggles as a mere shadow of what he once was. Got to be tough on him. He is still a great hitter for a pitcher.

  67. 00liber

    Drag
You read my thoughts. Friday night i looked at games and thought brewer on Sun, Mariner on Mon. I went Braun today and tentatively have Ichiro set for tomorow. Might go Guetierez, stay away from Figgins, he walks more then Barry Bonds got intentional walks. ( probobly not, but it sure seems like it this season so far.)
    M

  68. backrubs

Vinny, i dont know, but cabrera is 0-for-5 against Pinieiro.
i dont think i can touch that one… Ichiro is 4-for-11 against Bergesen… Figgins is only hitting .250. no way i could touch that one tomorrow….Guiterrez is 4-for-8 against bergesen and is hitting .417 this young season. opponents are hitting .405 agains bregesen, too.

ordonez is 4-for-10 against pinieiro and 341 for the season.
TOMORROW is not going to be east

  69. vinny1979

I don’t know if anybody knows this but Bergesen has an era of 2.14 against the M’s in his career so far. Is this a sign that he is going to pitch a good game tomorrow against the M’s and keep Ichiro hitless? It could happen so I won’t touch that. I heard that on MLB network about 5 minutes ago.

  70. dragbunt104

The posts on what to do Monday are exactly what the blog is all about. Helping each other be better players by posting observations etc.
Chone Figgins – OOliber – you are right on target with him, a bulls-eye on target. He was a leadoff man until this year, now bats second, will take a walk, sacrifice a runner over, hit to the right side to advance a guy from 2nd to 3rd. Kind of like Roberts of the O’s. He does get his hits but he is not our kind of guy. We want free swingers.
Ordonez – He had an 0-fer on Sunday beware on Monday – He can be streaky.
Ichirio was 1-3 on Sunday. I’m leaning toward him on Monday.
There were over 100 posts this weekend!

  71. vinny1979

I know Dragbunt but I have my pick coming up for tonight and that is Francoeur. I’m going to stick with Cabrera as he is hitting .412 against righties but can’t hit a lick against lefties so maybe that’s a sign he will hit Pineiro well on Monday.

  72. btle

vinny1979- Regarding Bergersen. He hasn’t even pitched for a full season yet, so I wouldn’t count on his stats all that much. He was pretty good last season but he’s been hit up in his last couple of starts.
Unless the Orioles are getting better luck, I’d say that Ichiro could get a hit off of him tomorrow.

  73. dragbunt104

Vinny – Cabrera is a good hitter and I’m hoping that he comes through for you.
Todd Helton of Rockies v. Stammen of Nats is someone to look at for those that are undecided. Why does Helton not play every day? Jason Giambi playing 1B for Rocks instead of Helton at times. What am I missing here.
Go Francour – Always a pleasure to pull for someone playing Cubs arch-rival Cards!

  74. vinny1979

I never said Ichiro won’t get a hit tomorrow. Odds are he will but the season just started so maybe Bergesen will pitch a good game tomorrow. You never know what will happen.

  75. vinny1979

Thank you Dragbunt. I don’t like to change after what happened with Holliday and Polanco the other day so I’m sticking with my picks every day unless I see something in the stats that I don’t like.

  76. peteryanidis

Ouch. Albert just had the easiest pitch of the night and he hit a pop up. He will get a hit off the Mets’ relief pitcher.

  77. nardberg

Anyone considering Pedroia for tomorrow? Great stats in day games plus I really don’t see him going hitless two days in a row. Not comfortable with Ichiro yet this year. Mondays are always tough – good luck all!!!

19.0% of those playing picked Pujols on Sunday.
Cards v. NYM on ESPN Sunday night game of the week.
Am I the only one who senses tension in the booth between Joe Morgan and Orel Herheiser?
NYM rookie pitcher Toby Stoner (great name for a Rock Star)
gets Albert to fly out to center – now 0-4.
Those who put their streaks on the line with Pujols. Start thinking outside the box. BTS can not be beaten with logic.

“Braun just singled to take me to 15 good luck to the rest still waiting. I hope Puj sits tonight and goes 0-1 after pinch hitting.
    M ”

Well, you cannot be upset about not having opportunities today.

He did go 0 for 5.

  80. champion_88

“I don’t know if anybody knows this but Bergesen has an era of 2.14 against the M’s in his career so far. Is this a sign that he is going to pitch a good game tomorrow against the M’s and keep Ichiro hitless? It could happen so I won’t touch that. I heard that on MLB network about 5 minutes ago.”

Well, I would want to see the hits allowed per IP, since you can still give up a lot of baserunners, but still not give up many runs.

Sort of like how you throw a 10-12-hit shutout.

    @dragbunt104

Idk. Logic would tell me to stay away from the Cards and Mets who played all 20 innings on Saturday. And 19 percent rolled with Pujols (who couldn’t hit a softball yesterday). Kinda confusing.

Logic be damned, I guess. I’m going with the obvious pick tomorrow. Good luck to everyone. +14

I have no idea why people keep picking against John Maine.

His walk rate has gone up over the past few years, not his hit rate.

  83. vinny1979

Oh well. There goes my streak at 3 so not upset but I wish I could get longer than my 13 game streak which is my ultimate high.

  84. chase_m355@live.com

More like 30% of streaks went down today. Pujols 19%, D Lee 4%, Utley 2.2%, Wells 1.6%, Pedroia 1.5% and Ramirez 1.4%. Glad I went w/Braun. An ugly day for BTS.

  85. vinny1979

I should start listening to you guys as I’m picking the hot hitters and it’s not working. I just want to get to at least 20 games and take it from there. I never got past 13 and it’s a shame. I hope I can do it now starting tomorrow. I haven’t taken Braun all year yet.

Dragbunt, Helton not playing a day game after a night game is just something that is becoming more popular among managers. able to give the players a little more time off in a rather long season.

  87. backrubs

Just Looked it up, only 178 people playing have 15 game streaks going into monday. 144 have 14. 109 have 13 or more

  89. lavolpe

More than 45% lost streaks; that number comes from the top 100 pages (2500 people). Pujols and D.Lee took down the majority. I wrote a program yesterday that basically downloads the 100 pages and parses out the info and then gets stats for just those 2500.

Just over 8% stayed in place by picking players that didn’t play (i.e., Jeter, Rolen, Tejada & a few others)

By the way, from the top 2500, can you guess what the 11th most common pick was? No Selection, including 6 from 1st place players; go figure.

Number of pages containing 1st place players dropped from 13 to just over 7.

  90. champion_88

Ah, what a surprise, the post is not on time for today!

I KNEW they could not go the whole season without putting up an entry late!!!

As for lavolpevb, you should adjust your model though to filter the 2,500 most ACTIVE streaks, because as the season goes on, some people have lapses where they do not pick at all and the “No Selection” pick tends to be more common on LEGACY streaks, as opposed to ACTIVE streaks.

  91. lavolpe

It does. Of course. Why would I want to track the longest for the year vs the longest current streak? I only care about the current streaks.

  92. lavolpe

I keep my picks to myself before they are locked in, even amongst my friends. My current streak is only at 4, got reset on day 7 and have had a tough time getting it going again; the dreaded “S’s got me: Schumaker, Sizemore, Suzuki

I plan on posting the top 12 picks of the top 2500 each day, after the picks are locked in or when I get home from work, whichever is later. I think it will be a nice aside to see how the top 2500 are picking when compared to the general populace of a gazillion or how many active players there really are.

  93. champion_88

Well, for the first few weeks, the longest streaks = current streaks, so I thought maybe you might not realize the difference when that is no longer the case.

Who do you have today by the way and how long is your streak so far?

  94. champion_88

“I plan on posting the top 12 picks of the top 2500 each day, after the picks are locked in or when I get home from work, whichever is later. Well the picks will always already be locked in, because they only display a little lock symbol in “today’s pick column” before picks lock for the day.

And I calculated there to at least be around 200,000 active players in the contest on one of the older entries that mentioned “several thousand fans” losing with a specific player.

I then correlated that player with the % in the results column and worked out a proportion to get a low-end estimate.
