Beat the Streak Report: Thursday, April 29

HollidayCards2_BTS.jpg

Sleepless in Seattle, no more.

An incredible, stupendous, fantastic, ridiculous, tell-your-little-brother 26.2 percent of all Beat the Streakers put their hopes and dreams in the hands of the man they call Ichiro. And boy, did it pay off.

Lattes were flying, rain was pouring, Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan were awkwardly laughing and somewhere Shawn Kemp and Gary Payton were smiling, as Ichiro rewarded their astounding faith by going 3-for-5.

In fact, it was pretty much Candyland across the board for our Streakers, as the top six choices for the day each compiled hits, which extended the streaks of almost 50 percent of our users alone.

Dustin Pedroia ended the most streaks with an 0-for-2 performance against Brett Cecil and Co., but that only accounted for 2.4 percent of our Streakers.

So pump your fist, shake your tail-feather and let it ride. (Almost) all of us are one step closer to that all-you-can-eat Red Lobster buffet.

Let’s check out Thursday’s picks.

Oh, hello there …

  • Matt Holliday: .538 AVG (7-for-13) lifetime vs. Braves starter Jair Jurrjens
  • Magglio Ordonez: .429 AVG (6-for-14) lifetime vs. Twins starter Carl Pavano
  • Billy Butler: .429 AVG (6-for-14) lifetime vs. Rays starter Matt Garza
  • Adam LaRoche: .400 AVG (6-for-15) lifetime vs. Cubs starter Ted Lilly
  • Yuniesky Betancourt: .500 AVG (5-for-10) lifetime vs. Rays starter Matt Garza

Feeling kinda spicy?

  • Laynce Nix: .417 AVG (5-for-12) lifetime vs. Astros starter Roy Oswalt. Care to do the dance of joy with Roy? Didn’t think so.
  • Omar Infante: .667 AVG (4-for-6) lifetime vs. Cardinals starter Adam Wainwright. You don’t get bonus points for riskiness, folks.

You’ll thank me later …

  • Adrian Gonzalez: .226 AVG (7-for-31) lifetime vs. Brewers starter Doug Davis
  • Vladimir Guerrero: .222 AVG (4-for-18) lifetime vs. White Sox starter Gavin Floyd

Leaderboard time!

The fab five is intact.

Yesterday’s top five all survived, as four of them picked Ichiro to extend their streaks to 25. Amazingly, user “kot2” put his humongous streak in the hands of Derek Jeter, who’s pretty much been the bane of all Streakers’ existence this season; I like your style. With that said, the following five are now 43.9 percent on their way to the big bucks:

  • ALbundy
  • djbloom
  • dodger_blue
  • kot2
  • olifante

Very windy in Chicago today – wind blowing out toward left field all fly balls are potential HR balls as 30-50mph winds for this afternoon as Cubs v. Az. Going with Derrek Lee in HT BTS and Johnny Damon in BTS. Cub hitters have no track v. AZ starter(?)
Hudson looks OK to me pperkins. He is hitting well lately.
    Good Luck to all today.

I went with Rhiannas boyfriend to try and extend my streak to 24. Me and AL Bundy are thinking alike too much.

  3. oneheartbeataway

I picked Rhiannas boyfriend to move me to 24 in a row. Me and AL Bundy are thinking too much alike.

most of the big name players wont play a day game after a night game. thats a way to get them some rest since the season is so long

I want to add that this new Blog guy keeps getting better everyday. I picked Crawford to get to a 4 streak.

  6. 00liber

Joe Mauer pinch hit in the 8th and struck out. thats gonna sting alot of ppl. (7%) And Miggy gets the free pass in bottom half to take another 2% with him. 8 guys drop off top page of standings (1 no selection, 1furcal, miggy 0-3, damon 0-3 and Mauer 0-1) M young oised to take 2 more off top page as well, currently 0-3 end of 5.

Unbelievable! Ian Kennedy’s only given up one hit so far and it was to my guy, Theriot. That puts me at 18. I’ve had an incredible amount of luck so far but I’m encouraged by the fact that I’m now 24-1-1. That last 1 being when I took Jason Bartlett and he didn’t play.

  8. co9fishermanjw@yahoo.com

Ya baby!!!!1 Ordonez gets a hit!
Thats a streak of 17. Thanks to this new bloger dude. He’s giving me lots of ideas on how to use my money:~)

apaul- keep it up. I’ve only gotten 2 wrong myself, 1 jeter 1Ichi and if I woulda had ichi the day jeter missed and jeter the day ichi missed I’d still b right up there with Al and Dodger with perfect, but that didn’t happen so I’m at 4.

Good luck to the rest tonight. Condolences if u had mauer or cabrera.

Guys, I am at work but on break. I picked Rasmus today and he came through. Back up to 4 for me. I took a shot but he hits righties well. Happy as he’ll I didn’t switch to Damon. I have Cano on my other name so we will see.

  11. dragbunt104

Well if Orlando Hudson is O-Dog (I believe it should be O-Dawg), then Johnny Damon is O- s*** (self-censor!)^%$#@!@#$%$#!
Cubs Ryan Theriot looked good today at the plate. I’m going with him on Friday. Wind will be blowing out toward the left field again tomorrow at Wrigley Field.

  12. 00liber

Forgive my Ebonics( or lack there of ) he got nickname from his days in T.O.
On a happier note ( For two ppl anyways) Crawford just came through with first inning single. Bartlett ground out to start inning. 2 perfects will remain, 3 more still possible. Good luck to Kemp, Bartlett and Pence.

  13. apaul39@gmail.com

Good luck to you too, 00liber! And for me, it was J-Roll (from my Phils) who was my only “bad” pick so far back on 4/10.

  14. oneheartbeataway

Kemp singles me to 24 games. Hey Fab Five don’t forget about us at 25 and 24 we’re coming for you. I’m really scared to go back to the Dodgers even facing Pirate Pitching. I might have to rethink my pick for Friday. hmmmmm. Congrats everyone at the top except the guy who picked Cabrera, no life size chewbacca made of leggos for you.

  15. backrubs62

i play HR bts and survivor.
my hitter tomorrow, Longoria 6-for-11 against Bannister and 329 for the year

  16. champion_88

I went with Andre Ethier yesterday and I got REALLY worried, when I loaded the boxscore up and saw only 4 hits for the Dodgers, but thankfully Ethier went 1 for 3 with 1 walk!

    Weather Report
    Chicago – Wrigley Field
For all of us who run up against that brick wall every day in HR BTS!
Wind blowing out to left field at Wrigley again today at 21 mph. Could be a HR kind of day. I’m going with Derrek Lee of Cubs again. Going with Ryan Theriot in BTS.
I’ve added Johnny Damon to my no pick list – the MVP (Mauer, Votto, Pujols) list is now the MVPD list with Damon added. ooliber – What does T.O. mean in the comment about Orlando Hudson (0-Dawg). The Southern Illinois University teams are called the Saluki’s (an Eqyptian Hunting dog of the Pharohs) and they are commonly called the “Dawgs” now a “mainstream” word.

  18. 00liber

Drag, T.O. is just shortform for Toronto. Refering to Mr Hudsons days as a blue jay. Not entirely sure how the nickname came to be.
Tonight I’m leaning very heavily towards a dodger. Morton is very hittable righty — 28 hits in 13.1 innings of work. and after only 4 hits last night I think LAD explode tonight. Looking at Kemp or Eithier. Torre has to do something with that lineup, Russell Martin should NOT be leading off. Personally I’d try Loney up top. Furcal maybe out for the weekend with tightness.

    From yahoo sports—

Apr 29 SS Rafael Furcal, who has missed three games, had an MRI on his left hamstring that showed a slight strain. He isn’t likely to go on the DL. Furcal injured himself in the first game of Tuesday’s doubleheader. He received an injection of platelet-rich plasma Thursday in the area of the injury.

Pick wisely, lots of good picks out there.

Anyways good luck to the Fab 5 and those close behind.

I play HR bts also. Last year, I had a 5-game streak, lost it and then started a 3-gamer the very next day. I was doing better at that than regular bts.

  20. darwri

I’ve been playing HR BTS since it came in 5 or 6 years ago. I’ve never had a 5 game streak. Its almost impossible to get to 10.. I just pick Pujols everyday and hope for the best… there is absolutely no strategy with HR BTS. Complete luck.

  21. dragbunt104

HR BTS Strategy – Like herding cats – It can’t be done.
Wrigley Field – Friday – Latest weather report: Wind gusts from the south up to 40mph – Fly Balls become HR’s. I’m going with this info and taking Derek Lee who is in a terrible slump.

  22. darwri

Go Derek! I’m going with Pujols for the 30th straight day.. I think its a solid pick lol.. I knew I should of taken John Buck last night.. but I changed to Pujols last minute hahaha

  23. dave55

I was going with A-Rod but switched to Hanley Ramirez. He’s had a two day rest and is 4/5 in previous ABs against Stammen.
