Beat the Streak Report: Monday, August 2

Crawford480BTS.jpg

Robinson Cano and Ichiro Suzuki tagteamed for an 0-fer of doom for
Streakers nationwide on Sunday, obliterating the streaks of 12.3 percent
of all users in their destructive paths.

But the fun don’t stop there.

In a strange turn of events, Andre Ethier, Joe Mauer, Martin Prado and
Josh Hamilton were each vacant from their squads’ respective lineups,
pressing the pause button on a combined 15.7 percent of all Streakers.

Did they all join Amare Stoudemire in the Dead Sea? Because that’s a lot of floating around.

Will our Streakers be able to bounce back in a short 10-game-slate
Monday? Or will they toil in the misery of slumpville along with Don
Draper and Albert Haynesworth?

All that and more in Monday’s Picks:

Oh, hello there …

? Carl Crawford: .400 AVG (10-for-25) lifetime vs. Twins starter Carl Pavano

? Shin-Soo Choo: .500 AVG (6-for-12) lifetime vs. Red Sox starter John Lackey

? Carlos Beltran: .371 AVG (23-for-62) lifetime vs. Braves starter Tim Hudson

? Matt Diaz: .538 AVG (14-for-26) lifetime vs. Mets starter Johan Santana

? Marco Scutaro: .476 AVG (10-for-21) lifetime vs. Indians starter Fausto Carmona

Feeling kinda spicy?

? Alcides Escobar: .500 AVG (5-for-10) lifetime vs. Cubs starter Randy Wells

You’ll thank me later …

? Derek Jeter: .077 AVG (1-for-13) lifetime vs. Blue Jays starter Brandon Morrow

? Martin Prado: .167 AVG (3-for-18) lifetime vs. Mets starter Johan Santana

? Evan Longoria: .091 AVG (1-for-11) lifetime vs. Twins starter Carl Pavano

Leaderboard time!

User “bigdadddy” gets the biggest piece of chicken at the dinner table
after escaping the weekend atop our leaderboard with a 30-game streak.

“bigdadddy” is now 27 games away from the $3,000,000 and, ya know, I think he should go for it. Why not, right?

Top MLB streakers

? Justin Upton: 17 games

? Yorvit Torrealba: 14 games

? Jose Tabata: 12 games

? Delmon Young: 11 games

? Raul Ibanez: 10 games

? David Ortiz: 10 games

Hey Dave and everybody. I chose Votto today as he is hot and he had an 0 fer yesterday and he is facing Ohlendorf tonight and I doubt he goes 0 fer two days in a row. Also I chose Bautista in HR BTS as he killed AJ and the Yanks last time he faced him in Toronto and Reds in Survivor against the Pirates.

Top o the morning all. And good afternoon to my bloggers out east. My picks are identical to vinny except I’m sitting on A-roid to hit number 600 in the HR friendly dome. Top2500 will be posted right after games lock at 7est.
    GL to all tonight.

Really frustrated after Cano’s 0 for 4 yesterday.

    BTS: Crawford
    HR: David Ortiz
    Surv: Braves

aCHOO. Going with Shin-Soo Choo for BTS and going with my Reds over the Pirates. Joey Votto is not starting today for all of you picking him. He could make a PH appearance if they are close because of his bat and they can’t afford to lose to the Pirates due to the Cards sweeping them. and Votto is a warrior and will want to help even in his day off.

Oops, my bad. Yanks are at home, still going with A-rod. Looking at Cabrera with Joey not in the starting lineup.

  6. vinny1979

I changed from Votto to Jon Jay. He is hitting well lately and I don’t think Votto is going to PH tonight since he tweaked his wrist.

  7. 00liber

No Joe Mauer or Brian McCann tonight either. Maybe pinch hit, but neither are starting.
I have a feeling that the Yanks are going to be heavily chosen tonight.

Looking to Marco Scutaro to carry me to a season high 11 gamer.
With his .476 average vs the opposing pitcher and he does not walk or strikeout too often, he is hitting .370 in the last 7 days..so we will see..

Man. Votto being out really put only great pick out of the play. I ended up going with Cano. It don’t really matter for me because I was reset by Cano yesterday.

I think only way Votto PHs is if this thing draps out into extra innniings and they run out of players.

  11. btsplayer@yahoo.com

Even though I picked Cano but I am surprised to see #1 & #2 go with him. The TOR pitcher can be tough when he is on. I don’t think I would have risked a long streak on Cano.

My alt. pick would have been A. Kennedy on Nats.

  12. box86rowh

So Marco comes thru with a double early in the game (gotta love early hits)

I am stuck between Delmon Young and Nick Markakis for tomorrow, any ideas?

  13. yanksgiantsdevils33

    My picks;
Beat the Streak: Joey Votto [did not play BOO!!!-still at 0 but not bad for the 2 way tie for 3rd (27),&4th place (26)]
Home run beat the streak: A-Rod
    Survivor: A’s
    Highest no selections;
Beat the streak:”krag” (page 10) with a hit streak of 13.
Home run beat the streak: 2 way tie “kansasbill,irishmen13” (pages 6-7) with HR streaks of 3.
Survivor: 2 way tie “duggs2005,fcg3” (page 8) with win streaks of 11.

  14. vinny1979

For the 5th time this year I changed the day of the game and my pick went hitless again. I had to change Votto but damn. That really sucks. I did the same thing last month and than went on my run so I know it’s going to change.

  15. rip2thecompetition

I had to change from Votto also. I’m a little upset b/c I had a few other guys (Pagan, Braun, R. Davis) in mind that got a hit when my guy (Montero) didn’t. Looks like I have time to make one more run.

  16. tnt750

Just started playing this game yesterday and Yahoo!!! I’ve got a one game streak going. I picked Kemp yesterday because I figured he might actually show up for the game after the way he was lacerated by a couple of reporters in the LA Times. He actually sounded CONTRITE. GO FIGURE. At any rate… my pick for today is Andre Eithier. He is 0 for 4 against todays Padre pitcher and I figure the only way to actually Beat the Streak is to go against the grain and pick someone that no one else picks. Ethier either has it in him or we’ll discover the rank amatuer that I am.
