Beat the Streak Report: Wednesday, August 11

480x270_Zimmerman.gif

A lightning-round version of the Beat the Streak Report today, as early meetings plus early games equaled lost time.

The big news stemming from Tuesday was that our leader, “gfc2112”, rode
Joe Mauer to a 35-game streak, becoming the eighth BTSer to reach that
mark for the year. And the eighth who will soon be haunted by an e-mail
from yours truly.

With lock time already passed, we know that “gfc2112” has selected
Stephen Drew for Wednesday, as the D-backs face off against Dave Bush
and the Brewers at 8:10 PM eastern time.

And with that …

Time for Wednesday’s picks:

Oh, hello there …

? Ryan Zimmerman: .533 AVG (8-for-15) lifetime vs. Marlins starter Chris Volstad

? Alex Rios: .500 AVG (5-for-10) lifetime vs. Twins starter Glen Perkins

? Michael Cuddyer: .474 AVG (18-for-38) lifetime vs. White Sox starter John Danks

? David Wright: .667 AVG (6-for-9) lifetime vs. Rockies starter Jeff Francis

? Chone Figgins: .500 AVG (8-for-16) lifetime vs. Athletics starter Dallas Braden

? Adrian Beltre: .389 AVG (7-for-18) lifetime vs. Blue Jays starter Shaun Marcum

Feeling kinda spicy?

? Jhonny Peralta: .474 AVG (9-for-19) lifetime vs. Rays starter Matt Garza

? Ronny Paulino: .435 AVG (10-for-23) lifetime vs. Nationals starter Scott Olsen

You’ll thank me later …

? Brandon Phillips: .158 AVG (3-for-19) lifetime vs. Cardinals starter Adam Wainwright

? James Loney: .167 AVG (2-for-12) lifetime vs. Phillies starter Roy Oswalt

? Robinson Cano: .227 AVG (5-for-22) lifetime vs. Rangers starter Cliff Lee

Leaderboard time!

“halmuni” lived to survive another day, as James Loney extended our second-place streaker to 28 games.

Sorry, “halmuni”, the answer is no — we do not sell “gfc2112” voodoo dolls.

Top MLB streakers

? Raul Ibanez: 17 games

? Howard Kendrick: 12 games

? Albert Pujols: 10 games

? Chone Figgins: 9 games

? Lastings Milledge: 9 games

? Placido Polanco: 9 games

Just read the report now – I almost chose David Wright until I read about his hideous slump. :). Good luck to all!!!!

Well I’m out of the $3M running thanks to Mr. Pujols 0-fer this afternoon. Thanks Albert! I’m not sure if I’m gonna try for the $10,000 or not. Right now I’m thinking not.

Well, 3 ways to get $10,000
    1) 11+ in HR BTS — yeah, right
    2) 37+ in Survivor (doable I think)
    3) 44+ in BTS (for right now)
The way I see it, might as well try 1 or more of those until mathematically eliminated. Someone may get lucky, might as well be you?

True. I’ve been the luckiest in Survivor and BTS. Guess I’ll keep going in BTS and start with Survivor tomorrow. I was hoping for the $3M, but who wasn’t?

  7. nymets1979

And the biggest slap in the nuts is having originally picked Jose Reyes and then changing to Pujols. I also thought about Pagan or Wright. So Reyes leads off with a bunt single and Pagan deposits the ball in the left field seats. Damn! Wow! I may never recover.

Dick George cringes a bit tonight.
Back to Back to Back to Back homers by AZ moves the leader up a notch tonight. I’m waiting for Kelly Johnson to join in on the fun too.

  9. lavolpe

And now I cringe a bit. After going back to back nites with last AB hits, Kelly Johnson couldn’t make it three nites. The pressure is off and a $10k run is now the half-hearted goal in BTS & Survivor. Time to spin down & take these last runs stress-free. At least I lost my shot swinging, a friend of mine, 3-gamer, lost his chance by picking Cantu today (unless he pinches in the 8th/9th).
Good luck to you bloggers still in the race for the big money. But I honestly expect the BTS mark to be 57 again next year.

Ouch, 24-gamer “blagecbrosinc”, possibly picking Braun as a safe pick today just backfired on him. Pinch hit 0-fer. Well enough leaderboard watching for the next couple weeks.
I’ll continue to post the countdown until I’m elminated from the 10k race. When that happens, I’ll let you all know I’m done & someone else can continue the countdown if they wish.
