Beat the Streak Report: Tuesday, September 7

480x270_Howard.jpg

It looks like someone wants to play ball, after all.

BTS leader “bretzky36″ survived the long weekend and now sports a 36-game after Ryan Zimmerman’s fruitful Monday at the yard.

With less than a month left in the season, “bretzky36″‘s 36-gamer should
add some much-needed BTS energy after we admittedly fell into a rut
once Geoff Croke’s 43-gamer hit the hay.

So splash some water in your eyes, put on a crisp new shirt and let’s get this party started. “bretzky36″, we’re here for you.

Time for Tuesday’s picks

Oh, hello there …

? Ryan Howard: .450 AVG (9-for-20) lifetime vs. Marlins starter Chris Volstad

? Miguel Cabrera: .421 AVG (8-for-19)lifetime vs. White Sox starter Freddy Garcia

? Ryan Braun: .412 AVG (7-for-17) lifetime vs. Cardinals starter Kyle Lohse

Feeling kinda spicy?

? Chone Figgins: .421 AVG (8-for-19) lifetime vs. Athletics starter Dallas Braden

You’ll thank me later…

? Jayson Werth: .059 AVG (1-for-17) lifetime vs. Marlins starter Chris Volstad

? Adrian Gonzalez: .136 AVG (3-for-22) lifetime vs. Dodgers starter Clayton Kershaw

? Billy Butler: .176 AVG (3-for-17) lifetime vs. Twins starter Francisco Liriano

Leaderboard time!

“pops50″ is also making things interesting, as our second-place streaker
is right on “bretzky36″‘s heels with a 33-gamer of his own after
successfully picking Ichiro for Monday.

Yes we can!

Top MLB streakers

? Carlos Gonzalez: 14 games

? Hanley Ramirez: 14 games

? A.J. Pierzynski: 13 games

? Neil Walker: 13 games

? Michael Cuddyer: 11 games

? Adrian Beltre: 10 games

Wouldn’t coin-toss picks be 50/50, indicating no edge at all.

And then if iffy picks were lower than that, wouldn’t that mean the opponent would be favored stronger?

Anyways, for comparison purposes, my system produced: ATL, NYY, MIN, OAK as its top 4 picks.

For BTS, my system produced: Carlos Gonzalez, Hanley Ramirez, and Ryan Braun as its top 3.

I went with Hanley Ramirez, since it seems like Carlos Gonzalez has been too red-hot recently and Cueto seems capable of shutting him down or walking him a couple times.

For HR BTS, the system suggests skipping today as nothing seems palatable.

One annoying note here, is that the system produced Jim Thome yesterday, who did homer, but I thought he would not start, so I went with Luke Scott, who failed.

@champ88. I like your system, more streamlined.
Regarding coin-toss, iffy categories. I’m not even going to try to strive for prediction of all games in a day. If I can get good-great numbers for 4 games, I’m really happy. Those categories are more of a strength of confidence than anything else

That used to be a contest on MLB.

You could win something if you predicted the winner of all 15 Opening Day matchups.

I think my record was 11 correct 1 year.

1st-inning single for Teixeira.

Leader moves to 37.

I’m liking that new program. Predicted BAL over NYY though game is still early & won’t know it’s final tallies til later

Miguel Cabrera really is the only one to take out anyone yet. A few little players still have some shots to succeed.

Hanley Ramirez just getting up now in the 8th.

Ramirez: 0 for 5 now, but Madson threw a wild pitch before the AB was over, so the game is now tied at 7.

@champ88. Assuming Hanley gets no more ABs. 27 drop tonite so far including 2nd place leader, with 10 still TBD. BTW: Hayes is w/HOU & is DNP. Of the DNP, none of them were at 16, all had at least 1 game to spare.

Hey Champion88, what is this program you are talking about with HR BTS? That sounds interesting as that game is hard as hell.

Survivor Calculator results: Succesfully picked 2 upsets today: BAL/NYY & PIT/ATL. With 10 for 12 picked correctly overall, 3 games left tonight (so far 1-2).
Top Survivor picks tomorrow? CIN, ATL, CWS, STL, OAK
Possible upsets tomorrow? AZ, CHC
