    San Diego’s season is over they gave up a run in the 9th and lost 1-0 to the Cubs on Thursday to end my glorious winning streak of 2. I knew I needed to practice survivor for the postseason game that I THOUGHT was going to be held. Me among many are MAD as HeLL about mlb.com bailing this year and having no postseason beat the streak and survivor contests.
    My final 3 picks of the year are below and then on Sunday I’ll update my final survivor record and total number of successful home run picks.
    Friday;
    Home run: Alex Rodriguez
    Survivor: Giants
    Saturday;
    Home run: Nick Swisher
    Survivor: Dodgers
    Sunday;
    Home run: Prince Fielder
    Survivor: White Sox
    With San Francisco needing 1 win to clinch the NL West and Atlanta 2 up on the Padres who lost 3 of 4 to the Cubs at home, there won’t be any tiebreaks on Monday after I thought there would be.

  2. champion_88

    It turns out there will be postseason action after all!

    I just saw a banner for Postseason Bracket Challenge 2010.

    While that does not explicitly confirm Postseason BTS or Survivor, it does tell me that the MLB team is still planning on running contests throughout the Postseason.

    I can now sleep comfortably now!!!

  3. yanksgiantsdevils33

    Due to a double header on Saturday with Yankees and historical enemy #1, my Saturday home run pick has been switched to Jose Batista.

  4. dragbunt104

    Post Season Bracket Challenge 2010(?)
    Could be that impossible thing where you have to pick the winner of each series, total hits, total runs etc. Basically a giant guess that needs to be done one time only and you are done. This is easy for MLB to manage as it will all be tabulated before game 1 begins on Wed. There is no daily picking etc. This is what MLB did for the All-Star Game.

  5. champion_88

    BTS: Angel Pagan
    HR BTS: Adam LaRoche
    Survivor: Nationals

    Remember everyone that if there are any tiebreaker games, we still make picks for these contests!

    I am beginning to get worried about the Postseason BTS and Survivor contests, but since we know there will be a Postseason Bracket Challenge, I will not begin to worry, until I see that challenge posted and neither of the other two.

  6. danpranka@newenglandsportstours.com

    Hi Dave….

    Thanks for the upbeat notes… May I offer some incentives for next year. Although the BTS has been challenging, but over the some ten years no one has been succesful in winning out right. As the season winds down more and more participants leave the challenge. Can I offer the following… Still leave the BTS as it is now… Add the following two incentives…. 1. Have a prize at the end of the year for the participant with the best winning percentage. This would keep many partici[amts active through the end of the year. 2. The second incentive would be to run a monthly incentive… with either the longest streak for the month or best percentage of wins for the month…. Prizes do not have to be in the hundred of thousands, but would be an incentive to play even with a few losses along the way. See you in the spring!

    There are going to be No tiebreakers so these are my Final Home run and survivor results
    Friday;
    Home run: Alex Rodriguez
    Survivor: Giants
    Saturday;
    Home run: Nick Swisher
    Survivor: Dodgers
    Sunday;
    Home run: Prince Fielder
    Survivor: White Sox
    My FINAL 2010 survivor record is 107-72, 1PPD .598
    I’m very mad, that 6 game losing streak put me under .600 ruining the season.
    The Home run game blew as expected with no home runs for me in the last 10 days. My longest streak of this year (2) was shorter than last year (3). I had 7 home runs in the first 40 days before I skipped 1½ months (53 days). I got 15 home runs afterwards on 14 successful picks. I am again VERY disappointed about there being NO postseason beat the streak and survivor and hope they’ll have it next year and not skip it again. Let’s go Yankees in the playoffs and barring any miracle of postseason beat the streak and or survivor, see everyone in the spring!

    Oops I forget the results:
    There are going to be No tiebreakers so these are my Final Home run and survivor results
    Friday;
    Home run: Alex Rodriguez (postponed-Did not play)
    Survivor: Giants (Loss)
    Saturday;
    Home run: Jose Batista (fail) I switched from Nick Swisher.
    Survivor: Dodgers (WIN)
    Sunday;
    Home run: Prince Fielder (fail)
    Survivor: White Sox (WIN)
    My FINAL 2010 survivor record is 107-72, 1PPD .598
    I’m very mad, that 6 game losing streak put me under .600 ruining the season but I did end a sour season on a sweet note.

    I really don’t believe there won’t be at least 1 of those 2 contests.

    Last year, the article describing their postseason plans was written on October 5th.

    Are they going to highlight just 1 contest: Postseason Bracket challenge in the entire article?

    By the way, is anyone doing that contest?

    Also, I will be here making picks for both contests, for practice, no matter what, so if anyone wants to join me, they are welcome.

    Final stats will be coming later today or tomorrow.

  13. dragbunt104

    The Post Season Survivor game v. celebrities. Looks like mucho fun! Thanks MLB for starting a new game that won’t be time consuming.
    Hoping that Dave is going to be able to use his wit as we are pitted v. celebrities in this contest. lol

  14. champion_88

    Postseason Survivor NOW posted!!!

    The prize is upped to $10,000 this year, which is much higher than typical for postseason contests!

    I am so happy right now!!!

    Will Dave be returning for Postseason Survivor posts too?

  15. champion_88

    “The Post Season Survivor game v. celebrities. Looks like mucho fun! Thanks MLB for starting a new game that won’t be time consuming.
    Hoping that Dave is going to be able to use his wit as we are pitted v. celebrities in this contest. lol”

    lol, how is this less time consuming than the regular season Survivor contest?

    I just pray that Beat the Streak gets posted for tomorrow.

    It would align perfectly with the “roll out one contest per day” pattern.

  16. yanksgiantsdevils33

    It looks like there will be POSTSEASON ACTION after ALL!
    Bracket Challenge:
    ALDS: Rays over Rangers in 4, Yankees over Twins in 4
    NLDS: Phillies over Reds in 3, Braves over Giants in 4
    ALCS: Rays over MY Yankees in 7
    NLCS: Phillies over Braves in 5
    World Series: Phillies over Rays in 5
    Tiebreakers;
    Final World Series game 9 runs, 16 hits
    Entire World Series will have 40 runs and 84 hits. I’m sure I’m WAY off on entire WS hits.
    I’m also pleased to see that their will be a POSTSEASON SURVIVOR contest going. (against 15 celebrities) All we need now is group access in the postseason survivor game and a beat the streak game. Anyway nice going so far MLB.com

  17. dragbunt104

    Phils over TB in World Series in 7 games

    champion -Survivor picks will be less time consuming for me than BTS picks. Your style of choosing must be more elaborate – good luck in the contest

  18. yanksgiantsdevils33

    There is one mistake, postseason survivor says that it will start on 10/7, the playoffs start on 10/6. If that is the case the Halladay gimme is skipped over and the contest will start on day 2. There are more celebrities being added, now 17.

  19. yanksgiantsdevils33

    Changes to my bracket:
    ALDS: Rays over Rangers in 5 not 4
    World Series: Phillies over Rays in 6 not 5

    TX over TB two in a row at TB WOW!
    Had to go with SF and Lincecum at home v. hot Braves pitcher. Will I be a nice slice of buttered toast with jelly or toasted and out? No mulligans in this game and that is the way it should be! MLB kudos this is a great game!
    Good Luck will play a major roll if anyone can get to a 12 game streak.

    Terrible year in baseball picks for me except for the last week in July. The Braves gave the game away from the start. I would have lost along the way, so no big deal. Good luck to all and see you in the spring when I Beat The Streak. They might make the prize $5 million next year.

    If you select a team for a future game and that game does not get played because that series has been completed and there are other games scheduled for that day that get played, your streak will end and you will be eliminated from the Contest.

    So anyone who picked the Yankees or Twins were eliminated too in addition to no selections. Before checking the rules, I assumed it meant a pause but I didn’t dare try it out!

  34. dragbunt104

    yanks – Correct, you have to pick a game that is being played each day and win each day to stay in the game.
    Monday and Tuesday will be tough – one game each day!
    How many players began? How many remain?

  35. champion_88

    ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

    Only 3 days the rest of the way will have more than 1 game, so people are going to start getting eliminated more rapidly.

    The 1st 5 days of the postseason all had a gimme pick.

    I am quite confused as to why I didn’t use the Yankees on Saturday.

    So I still consider myself “IN”, even though I cannot win any prize money.

    I would have used the Braves tonight.

    So we will see what happens.

    Interesting how 8/9 remaining players in the Celebrity Contest are the baseball experts.

    Just shows you right there how analysis trumps luck in these contests!

    But the Celebrity Contest ends tonight if the Braves win with former player Ricky Bottalico being champion.

    Rather lame charity though. Personally, I was rooting for Jennie Finch’s “n-play” donation.

    Pretty funny though how Peter Gammon’s charity is a “foundation to be named later”!

    Congratulations Giants pickers, I took the Braves without knowing about their 0-7 home record in elimination games. In addition ground balls are turning into hits for the Giants and every Braves big inning is 1 run. I wish after these last 2 games for the Braves that they had not come back in game 2, then there would be no games today and I’d stay at 4. Instead a permanent red OUT is going to show on my entry.

    Day 4 Yankees (Win 3)
