Beat the Streak Report: Weekend, April 15-17

First Josh Hamilton and now Joe Mauer — your favorite streak picks are dropping like fries! That’s the expression, right? Because kids can’t hold onto their French fries and they end up all over the floor? Such a funny language, English.

Anyway, Ichiro Suzuki was seen leaving Kauffman Stadium in a full-body cast last night as a precaution, and Hanley Ramirez has asked that we remove him from the game just to be safe.

Not dropping like fries: most of your streaks. Robinson Cano went 2-for-5 last night to advance more than 15 percent of all Streakers, and Ichiro teamed up with Shane Victorino to bring another 10 percent into the weekend with their hit strings — and their dignity — fully intact.

We know it’s early, but 11 of you are a perfect 15-for-15 on the season. In the words of Teddy K.G.B., you must feel proud and good! So how ’bout this: last man, woman, child or bear standing in this season-opening Royal Rumble gets to answer a few questions and make a celebrity pick here on the Report.

Oh, you’re going to pick Ronny Cedeno because he probably won’t get a hit and it’ll be funny? LOL! Note: Don’t you dare.

Wow today is the first 7:00 lock day after 15 early starts.
I’m taking Ryan Braun to get to 4.

Sure if u want go for it K. I’ll post the reset from yesterday for you. Don’t know it off top of my head but I’ll reply on your post with it.

Completely unrelated, knowing that you’re a programmer, how much work would it be to put together a BTS app for apple users? I’ve been told there used to be one but there isnt anymore.

The language I use doens’t port well to Mac. Sorry. I’ll post the Top2500 a few minutes after picks lock tonite.

  4. LaVolpe

^^ “.jew” blogger name came out http address. Hmmmm.
Anyway I picked #42 to increase my streak tonight 🙂

  5. vinny1979

@Lav, I think you mixed up the highest no selection. Highest no selection was pg 8 with a streak of 11. 🙂

  6. vinny1979

It’s down to 10 left who are perfect. One had McCann and that game was postponed. My streak is still going Lav. Had Braun and he already hit.

  7. LaVolpe

Another perfect streaker picked B.Phillips not in lineup and potential pinch hitter. Yet another has the Flyin’ Hawaiian who may have just 1 more AB. And also, McCutchen picked with maybe just 1 more AB. Neither of last 2 has hit so far.

  8. vinny1979

McCutchen just batted in the 8th and reached on an error. That perfect streaker is done unless by the grace of god McCutchen gets up again.

  9. LaVolpe

Well, it’s official. Perfect streakers down to single digits tonite with 3 more to still play in late games. So far, 2 went 0-fer, 2 did not play (benched).

  10. LaVolpe

And for the last 3 perfectos. C.Rasmus hit 1st AB. Just Miggy left now (0-1) with 2 perfecto’s fingers crossed. Wonder how many will remain come Monday morning? And then wonder how many will forget to pick before the early lock? We’ll see.

  11. champion_88

I would love an EXPLANATION over how a runner scored from 2nd base on a ground ball to the 1st baseman!

    Way to go Fielder!

It wasn’t enough that you screwed me going 0 for 4.

You had to screw up and end the game on your bobbling fielder’s choice!

And my other 3 possibilities all got hits just to annoy me even further!!!

  12. LaVolpe

And with Miggy’s last AB homer & A-Rod’s last AB double, the BTS gods were kind today. The top 6 picks of the Top2500 move on.

  13. 00liber

Looking at Ichiro for today. He’s only hitting 0.71 during day this year but I’m hoping that changes.

As LaV said NYM/ATL is a doubledip today.

Monday morning is super early lock in Boston. (11am eastern time) Have your picks in Sunday night.
    M

  14. LaVolpe

Unless you don’t mind sitting idle due to rain outs, you may want to check today’s weather (links provided above & earlier BTS Report pages). Two games appear to have T-Storms forecasted during those games.

  15. vinny1979

It’s more than two games Lav. The whole East but Boston is supposed to get hit today. Washington/Milwaukee already rained out.

  16. LaVolpe

@Vinny. The forecasts indicated other games with “light rain” along the coast. Those games may play or simply be delayed. Hmmm, do I want to pick Braun for today? Yeah, right. Like my little 2-game streak is worth freezing for a day 😉

  17. vinny1979

@Lav, it’s supposed to pour in Philadelphia all day so that game will be rained out. Yankee Game is supposed to have rain starting at 2 PM and start time is scheduled for 1. I’m moving out West.

  18. LaVolpe

You can stay along the East, move under a roof 😉 I chose the Midwest for today, though I wanted one of those east-coast games

  19. 00liber

    Just throwing this out there

RF Ichiro Suzuki had a double in the first inning and an RBI single in the eighth Friday, giving him 10 consecutive Kauffman Stadium multiple-hit games. That moves him past Hall of Fame 3B George Brett of the Royals for the longest such stretch in ballpark history. Ichiro also has a 16-game overall streak in K.C.

    (Yahoo! Sports)

  20. LaVolpe

And the field has ATL players for #1 & #13 most picked. BTS gods may take exception today. A lesson should be taught 🙂

  21. schenk015

i cant believe mccann is the top pick for the day. do people realize he’s not just playing in a doubleheader but that rain will be an issue throughout the 2 games as well

    • baseballgirlie13

I think some people just make a pick based on numbers and don’t actually look to see that the weather could be a factor. Not to mention if there is a double header they have to get hits in both games. It says right on the “pick player” pager that a game is a double header so there is no excuse. I think some people who haven’t read the rules think they will advance two games if they get a hit in both. They will all learn the hard way though.

      • champion_88

The doubleheader rule used to be that if your pick got a hit in EITHER game, you would go up 1 game.

They used to give a warning the year after the change that he had to get a hit in both games to go up 1 game, but they might have just clicked past it and/or not had any DH picks that year.

@00Liber. Heads up. I just pulled the Top2500 for my own use 40 mins after lock. The ‘no selections’ already updated. BTS is updating picks much quicker this year. To ensure you get no selections for game day, don’t wait too long to pull the listing.

    • schenk015

well you’re moving onto tomorrow but your streak won’t increase. terrible weather here in philly today and the game has been postponed

      • gpearson17

Crap. Here I am again getting sloppy again and picking a guy who’s rained out. Much like in my personal life, this season I peaked way too early. (j/k)

  23. champion_88

    A-Rod just came out.

    2 more leaders down.

I breathe a sigh of relief as I considered A-Rod, but went with Yunel because of the rain threat.

    • schenk015

yep and that drops 11% of the streaks back to 0. i still cant believe so many people would take someone playing in a doubleheader

  24. vinny1979

Well I can say that A-Rod got taken out because he hurt his back/oblique on Saturday. Was taken out as a precaution. Car Go isn’t starting tonight either because of a stiff back. So 2.48 are left steady for tonight.

  25. LaVolpe

The leader that picked Byrd must feel BTS luck finally ran out — 17 hits by the Cubbies & Byrd 0-5. That means only 2 perfect streakers left by my count. Ok bloggers we gave them their chance, now let’s rise to the challenge, shall we?

  26. schenk015

going with marlon byrd for sunday. hes coming off back to back 0fers so hes due for a hit and facing a guy with a career +4 era in the minors so hes definitely hittable

  27. baseballgirlie13

Going with Votto tomorrow as he is hot right now and hitting Karstens really well (5-7) I think he will get at least one hit tomorrow for me. That is the second time in a week that the Cubs had more then 14 hits and Byrd went 0-5. I had him last time he did that which is why I stayed away from him today and went with Castro. Glad I did as he went 4-5.

    • 00liber

Likewise on votto., he’s in starting lineup today. Ima be out and about today so there won’t be a million posts from me like usual.

  28. 00liber

LaV. Can you post 2500 today. Please. I’m not going to have the chance to run it. I’ll get tomorrow’s super early lock.
    M

    • baseballgirlie13

I think you could go with Votto, Phillips, Stubbs, or Gomes today as they all hit Karstens really well. I like Votto though because he is hitting extremely well right now and should get at least one hit for us.

      • LaVolpe

Karstens & Braun were the combo that killed my 20-gamer last year.
@00Liber: No problem — I’ll post the listing

  29. champion_88

    I went with Matt Kemp.

Votto looks too perfect and with a 0 game streak, not risking too much by staying away.

I am actually pretty happy Yunel went 0 for yesterday.

Now I don’t have to feel so bad about punting with Prince Fielder.

Isn’t there a part of you that is saying, “Darn, he got a hit on 3rd PA, might have gone 0-fer”? I had him too & was reset yesterday. When I pick one of the top picks while reset, part of me wants him to go 0-fer. But that’s the competition speaking I know.

  31. LaVolpe

May have just 1 leader after today, mabye. Ichiro moved one leader along & Rollins 0-3 at end of 7th, but game is tied. May or may not have another AB…

  32. champion_88

4th-inning single by Kemp, so the question of whether or not Votto was too perfect was irrelevant.

I wish they had a prize for highest batting average over a month’s picks too (minimum: 90 PA per month)

I find it so hard to get amped up over a 1-game streak.

  33. schenk015

taking denard span tomorrow. hes quietly on a 7 game hitting streak and was 2-2 against tillman in their only meeting last year

  34. champion_88

If you care about total hits, then Kemp was a better choice than Votto.

    3 hits VS 1

And speaking of better choices, Kemp is ripping the ball right now.

He just hit a game-winning HR off the Cards’ closer on a sinker down and in well over the center field wall.

  35. baseballgirlie13

Looking at Miggy tomorrow as he hits well against Seattle and he hits really well at Safeco Field. Hoping to get to 4.
