Beat the Streak Report: Tuesday, April 19
… And Dustin Pedroia swung his mighty bat toward the heavens, the sea parted, and 13.9 percent of all Streakers filed out of the land of hitless oppression and one day closer to $5.6 million.
There was much rejoicing, and many cups of grape juice consumed.
All in all, thirteen of yesterdays top 15 selections converted, with only Joey Votto (5.2 percent) and Denard Span (1.9 percent) tasting the bitter herbs of defeat.
It may just take 40 years of wandering in the desert of 0-fers for someone to finally win this here streak game, but rest assured that we have plenty of milk and honey on tap for when you arrive.
Let my Streakers go — to make …

Leaderboard time!
Gottaweartheshades is still perfect at 19-for-19 on the season after Miguel Cabrera‘s 2-for-4 last night. In their honor, here’s your lampshade of the day.

Going with a guy from my fantasy team that has been ripping it up. To bad the Cubbies gave up on him.
Sam Fuld is my choice.
LaV, wanna post today and I’ll get tomorrow and Thursday. Pls and thx.
GL to all today.
Sure
Thx.
Reset was 24.6% yesterday with Votto killing most.
Sorry 24.8%
Significant rain chances for AZ/CIN, HOU/NYM, SD/CHI, and WAS/SL. Also, MIN/BAL and MIL/PHI will be dealing a moderate chance of rain. I’m risking my 3-streak on Tulowitzki in dry Denver.
30% chance of isolated T-Storms in COL. Good odds. Maybe an in-game rain delay at most; doubt game will be PPD. I live 15 mins outside STL & we are forecasted for serious weather. Unless the weather ppl are wrong; no game possible tonite
Going with Maicer Izturis of the Angels. He is ripping the ball right now and has 11 hits in the last 4 games. Hoping he can continue tonight against Lewis. GL everyone!
So that just cut down my choices by quite a bit. Well it looks like I may just pick a player from one of those games and pause for one game. I’d rather move up to 5, but I’m not feeling very confident about tonight’s pick.
Right now I have Andre Ethier locked in. Hopefully something doesn’t change my mind.
I’m going with Ryan Sweeney. We’ll see if Boston pitching continues to Lack luster. GL to all.
SD/CHI already PPD! Change your picks if needed! Not a lot of rain in Chicago right now, but the severe threat could be serious tonight. More PPD games could follow.
I can see the potential for 5 more games being postponed. Going for the West coast games is looking to be the safest right now.
Or go in the dome.
WX report. STL still looking bad but still bright, sunny & warm. Forecasted tornado warnings, baseball size hail, rain & wind. Warnings issued for 6pm-12am so far. Need to make your decision before game time though which is slated to start @ 7:15 local.

I wish MLB would stop being little pansies and just play.
We call them “professionals” after all.
Let them play in thunderstorms.
Do you think a lightning bolt is going to be attracted to the peope on the field or the 500 feet light towers?
The players will be fine.
This isn’t a Little League field where the players ARE the tallest people in the vicinity.
Guess need to look at it from a different perspective. Wet playing conditions can lead to injuries (slips, falls, strains) and a wet ball in a pitcher’s hand is an accident waiting to happen. If you had millions of $$ tied up in those players that bring in the fans, you sure wouldn’t want to risk them unnecessarily; that’s what makeup days are for. Anyway, just playing the Devil’s advocate.
Yeah, but like this isn’t 1911, where 1 ball is used the whole game.
It is not uncommon to use 3 or 4 different balls in a single AB.
How wet is the ball possibly going to get in 2 or 3 pitches?
Plus, only letting players play in pristine conditions makes them more fragile to nagging injuries and pain and makes those things a bigger shock come the end of the season/postseason, since they are not accustomed to playing in cold/rain/wind, etc.
If you go on the DL for playing in the rain, you need to get sent back to the minors to toughen up.
Interesting. Here @ STL, they moved the game back 1 hour. Must feel they have a window to get at least 5 innings in.
Check that. Bad reporting on the radio; just playing with ideas
I went with Joey Votto tonight who has already been hit by a pitch.
I sort of just hope at this point that it gets rained out right away, after hearing about chances of a rain-shortened game on here.
I went with Hanley Ramirez to get to 7.
Hanley Ramirez has been walked twice and is 0 for 1. He will leadoff the 7th but since the Marlins are up 6-0 he probably won’t bat again after that.
2 stupid walks back to 0, I hate when my pick gets walked once let alone twice. This is the 2nd 6 game streak going back to 0.
Out side the Yankee game it looks like their are many possible O fers. I’m starting over tomorrow.
Weather delay in SL, but not PPD at this point.
Awful dark and scary here in STL. Sirens blaring, thunder rolling, lightening sparking. Hope my power doesn’t go out 😉
Hope not LaVolpe. Stay safe!
Aw man, I wish I was there.
I would ask the Cardinals’ groundskeepers if I could play an inspirational game during the rain delay.
I’d even be willing to sign a waiver right there to not hold the park/franchise responsible if I “hurt” myself.
More storms back-building west of SL. Maybe not severe, but rainy nonetheless. I’m starting to suspect there will not be much baseball, if any, at Busch tonight.
@Champ88. Looking for extra innings or a bat-around
Votto strikes out in the 8th. 0-3
Ballgame. Three 18-streaks reset.
I love how the Blue Jays managed to rally to tie off Rivera down by 2 runs, but the Reds couldn’t manage 1 run off Putz.
Figures!
I had been debating between Votto and Freese, who just rained out, so if I had looked at the weather today like I initially promised myself, I would have failed anyway.
I think this is a sign that I need to switch over my formula from spring training data to regular season data now.
Only 3 of the top 15 picks have a hit so far. 5 haven’t started or got rained out and 7 are hit less. This will be a huge reset of the ones without a hit don’t get one and the ones yet to play also don’t get any. Glad I went with Izturis of the Angels. Hit a homerun in the 5th inning.
I’ve seen something today that I don’t think I’ve ever seen before. Kemp, nr 4 hitter, intentionally walked in the 1st inning!
I’m sure it’s been done before, but I haven’t seen it ‘live’ before. Another oddity today…. Mariano Rivera blows a 2-run save opportunity.
Nats/Cards officially PPD. DH on Wednesday.
If Michael Young doesn’t end up getting a hit, I’ll know I should have picked either Kemp, Ethier, or Sandoval who I had originally picked before I changed it 25 times.
He leads off the 8th… butterflies in the ole gut I bet
Kemp doesn’t have a hit yet though.
Oh yeah! Seens how almost everyone else that last inning got a hit and still nothing for Young. This is the biggest streak for me this season, but it all may be over soon. I’m still a long way from my career high of 12 though.
BTS gods had their sacrifice with Votto and possibly Tulo. They were generous not to take Young also 🙂
Thank You BTS Gods! LOL! 🙂
Wooooohoooooo! OK, now that my stomach can untangle itself, I’m off to bed. Goodnight everyone!
Off to bed before all games are done? Sacrilege!
I have work in the morning and as long as my hitter got a hit, that’s all that matters. LOL! But yeah, you’re right, what’s wrong with me?!
Aren’t you curious to see if Kemp, one of your OWN possibilities, gets a hit or not?
Yes, but I’m tired. Sorry. 😦
That 8th inning must have take a toll on him — spent
a toll on who?
And did you stay up for the Padres’ home opener that was suspended at 441 AM eastern?
@Dave It looks like 2 of those O fer guys (Vladimir Guerrero and Ben Zobrist) have gotten hits, 2 for each while Carlos Gonzalez went O fer, Brian McCann is playing (Currently 0 for 1) and Jacoby Ellsbury did not start but may pinch hit. With VG and BZ getting hits it looks like a new era is upon us!
Pair of doubleheaders tomorrow
