Beat the Streak Report: Tuesday, May 10
Challenge: If Stephen Colbert can make more correct Beat the Streak picks than the BTS Report in a Monday-Sunday period, he gets to run the official Twitter account of Major League Baseball — @MLB — for a full 24-hour span.
Ever the crafty leader, Stephen Colbert opted for a strategy of isolationism in Day 1 of our challenge. Rather than engage in any rabble-rousing outside the borders of his empire, he sat tight and offered no response — or BTS selection.
Well, we took AP history many moons ago, but we’re well aware of the counter-measure to this high-stakes stall tactic: brinksmanship. Escalate the situation until @StephenAtHome has no choice but to address it.
Did brinksmanship during the Cold War lead to the Bay of Pigs debacle? Maybe. Would that make us the JFK of this scenario? Oh, stop it! Yes, the rakish good looks … we get that all the time.
Either way, we will continue to increase tensions until a resolution is reached. Streakers: let the man know that there will be no peace until he makes a selection. Remember, the rules are simple: if Colbert can out-pick us over one week, @MLB is his to run for a day. No tricks, no catch.
We have a head start after converting with Andre Ethier yesterday, but there’s plenty of time for Colbert Nation to scramble the jets.
BTS Report Tuesday pick: Albert Pujols @ Cubs

A whopping 20.4 percent of all Streakers advanced on Placido Polanco‘s 1-for-4 Monday evening, and Andre Ethier combined with Troy Tulowitzki to propel an additional 18 percent of you into orbit. Former leader jmtribe saw their carefully arranged Jenga tower come crumbling down thanks to Miguel Cabrera‘s 0-fer, however, leaving the current leaders at 25 games.
Top MLB streakers
Jacoby Ellsbury: 18 games
Ben Zobrist: 14 games
Hunter Pence: 13 games
Shane Victorino: 12 games

Ultimate success game-days (USGD): On an USGD, all 15 selections get hits or 14 out of 15 get hits and the 1 who doesn’t is a pause.
Semi Ultimate success days (SUSGD): On a SUSGD, at least 14 of the top 15 most selected players must get a hit or pause. A SUSGD will occur on any game day that fits the SUSGD rules but not the USGD rules. IF there is exactly 1 O fer and/or 2 or more pauses in the top 15 that game day is a SUSGD.
Super success game-days (SSGD): On a SSGD, 12 or 13 of the top 15 most selected picks must get a hit or pause. If there are exactly 2 or 3 O fers in the Top 15, that makes for a SSGD.
After 40 days:
USGDs: 0
SUSGDs: 1
SSGDs: 13
I’m going with Robinson Cano to get to 15.
Highest no selection is on page 5 with a streak of 16 heading back to 0.
