Beat the Streak Report: Colbert Challenge, Day 1
Welcome to Day 1 of the Colbert Challenge, Streakers.
In case you haven’t heard, @MLB will face off against Stephen Colbert in a Beat the Streak pick-off from today through Wednesday. If Colbert wins, he’ll control the official Twitter of Major League Baseball for 24 hours.
With a trophy case that already includes the Miriam-Webster’s 2006 Word of the Year, the 2010 Golden Tweet and naming rights to NASA’s snazziest new treadmill, Mr. Colbert clearly has some experience in the contest-winning department. But does he know his baseball?
Check back over the next few days to find out. Or, better yet, make a few picks alongside the man who once ran a presidential campaign sponsored by Doritos.

Per rotoworld: Simply a day off. As it’s looking PIT doesn’t need him. But if crunch time comes and up/down by just 1, you may see him PH for the pitcher.
With Maholm at 95 pitches and due up 3rd in bottom half of 8 we might see PH. Will it be McCutch?

Jose Reyes sac fly on potentially last AB. I hate that when it happens to me, but not when it happens to the leader(s).
Staying with that game, Reyes just hit a sac fly in what might’ve been his last bat.
I picked McCutchen because of his .500 average against Pelfrey. What happens he gets put in late in the game after Pelfrey is gone and since he is due up 3rd, I can only pray for a miracle AB.

That sacrifice by Reyes looked like a hit after re-watching the play like 100 times. It definitely changed direction. The scorer needs to review it and change it.
Not gonna happen. It isn’t the official scorer’s call whether it is a hit or not. Because the umps called it an out, whether or not it was trapped, it an out. The sac is scored cause a run crossed the plate.
To rephrase a bit. In this case, it’s out of the official scorer’s hands. The scorer decides on if it is an error or not, not if it is an out or not.
It just sucks that the umps get paid to make bad calls. Happens way too often.
Agreed. Until instant replies includes trapped balls and missed calls on the bases, just part of the game.
