Beat the Streak Report: Weekend, July 29-31

Another week down, Streakers. Trade Deadline action is heating up, pennant races are shaking out and you still have a few more days to start a new Streak with the $5.6 million grand prize in play.

Current pace-setter mimiziemann advanced to 33 games courtesy of Adrian Gonzalez last night, which puts her squarely in line for a move up the season leaderboard if she can survive the weekend. Just to help out, we’ve provided the answer key to your Friday-Sunday test below.

Careful on the Rangers in Toronto tonite. the late night flight and getting through customs might have gotten them to the hotel about 4-5 AM or later, in the past this affected them in the first game of the series coming from so far away

    • gpearson17

Interesting. I already picked M. Young in a bid for my second 12-streak of the year. But I’d really be pissed if I wrongly changed my pick at this point.

  2. Sawx87

Figured I’d post something here now that I have a pretty good streak going and say what’s up. Been following for about a year now and enjoy all the facts and figures the blog has to offer.
I’ve been sticking with Pedey for most of the current streak but I think it ends today or tomorrow night. Going with Jacoby instead for a 15 gamer

    • LaVolpe

If it does end, hoping it waits til Sunday. He has good numbers vs. Buehrle which could entice a bunch of 20-something streakers. Selfish? Yep, but honest.

Going into today there are 62 days remaining. Gardner is O for 3 and will leadoff the bottom of the 8th.

    • yanksgiantsdevils33

Strikeout leading off the 8th, and another strikeout to end the game.
O fer 5 has given me my 11th O fer of July. I think this is definitely my worst month playing Beat the Streak. 61 is now the number of days left for me.

  5. Nymets1979

I currently have David Wright, but my concern is if Marquis gets traded before the game, all stats get thrown out.

    • LaVolpe

I’ve got a Met for my pick right now also. I’m not concerned about WSH pen vs. Mets hitters. If they throw tomorrow’s pitcher in though, similar numbers. My alternate is in CLE. Unfortunately NYM game is 7 hours after games lock. Will be mulling this over for a bit myself

    • LaVolpe

Note that if you are feeling really uncomfortable with the prospect that Mets will face a new pitcher every 2-3 innings, you may want to sit today out. Don’t know of any players going on DL today, but rotoworld reported: Cruz (quad), Hamilton, Andrus have day off today

      • champion_88

There was no confirmation that Brown was actually being sent down though.

It is possible Juan Uribe will be moved to the disabled list today, but that is not official either.

I went with Ryan Braun today, though I do not feel great about the pick.

  6. 00liber

Screen door installed. I’ll post top2500 within the hour. I ran it right after lock so it’ll include the early games.

  7. yanksgiantsdevils33

Robinson Cano is in the Top 15 overall list despite being in a DH and he is O fer in the 1st game.

    • LaVolpe

Definitely tough last nite for Top2500. In the standings, I jumped nearly 40 pages, from 91 to 53, in just 1 day!

      • 00liber

Ya man but imagine what it would’ve been had gonzo ph. Congrats and GL with Reyes tonight.

    • LaVolpe

Some stats courtesy of ESPN. Maya is starting for WSH tonite
Opposing BA: 458 (righties), 316 (lefties)
Last pitched 14 June: 24 batters faced, 9 hits
      Wright 0-3, Reyes/Murphy hasn’t faced

      • LaVolpe

Reyes left on deck 0-4. Funny/sad thing is that he killed both of my 10-gamers while opposing the same team — what are those odds?
As I go cursing/tumbling back down to the cellar, I can only take a little solace knowing I’ll be tripping over the leader on my way down. Hope not to see some of you down there anytime soon.

      • LaVolpe

Well, time for one last streak attempt. First reset in August & you’ll have to find me at SFTC, as I’ll be done with BTS till 2012.

      • champion_88

Oh wow, I could have sworn I had checked that at the beginning of the season, saw a $2,000 Grand Prize, and immediately closed the screen.

        That sure went up fast!

      • champion_88

If no one wins by the end of the year, is that jackpot going to carry over next season or start over at $50,000 again?

Also, do you know of any other BTS-themed fantasy contests out there? (essentially, any other fantasy baseball contests that are not the normal fantasy baseball leagues)

      • 00liber

Not sure about carry over into new year, but min monthly prize is 50k for longest streak of the month. The 2k is kinda like a consolation prize for most overall wins in a month.

  9. 00liber

2500 will b up later this afternoon, had a stag last night so I’m a little slow going today. Stats already pulled.

    • Nymets1979

I saw that. Made me sooooooooo nervous. Was gonna pick Uggla and it would have been over quicker.

  10. gpearson17

Tulo gets me up to 14 with a single in his first at-bat. A lot better than Murphy’s late hit when I picked him yesterday…

  11. 00liber

SFTC monthly 50k prize is gonna come down to the wire. Currently 2 tied at 19 but there’s also another at 18 right now with a soccer pick that’s close to being correct. Should be a good finish tonight.

  12. vinny1979

Lav, I had a nice run and why did I go with Cano against Arrieta. I was thinking of Zimmerman and should of pulled the plug and went with him. Oh well. This won’t be my last run of the year.

Well based on how July has gone I’m not surprised for it to end on another O fer which makes 12. Three of these were 0 for 1s Joe Mauer on 7/15 with 3 walks, Carl Crawford PH on 7/28 and today Derek Jeter goes 0 for 1 and then gets hit by a pitch in his 2nd PA and removed from the game. There are only 59 game-days left.
I’m so happy that July is over. My luck was horrible! 😦

  15. 00liber

How about these two grumpy old vets throwing gems thusfar. One’s got a 1 hitter going, the other is “so far” PERFECT. cmon Cubbies.
