Beat the Streak Report: Tuesday, August 2

With Andrew McCutchen‘s seventh-inning single last night, current leader doorsrule advanced to 36 games and moved into a tie with jero07 and bclark2779 for fourth place in the 2011 standings.

We”d love to tell you a little more about our leader — you know, the standard likes, dislikes, favorite Doors song routine — but the bat signal we sent out yesterday has so far gone unanswered. Is it possible that doorsrule is familiar with the (alleged, so-called, vastly-overblown) BTS Report Curse? We told you guys to keep that whole thing on the 15-day Down Low.

Either way, Mr. Morrison, the people demand answers in the form of random tidbits about your personal life. Hit me up before it’s too late.

Annnnd just a friendly reminder that tomorrow is the final day to start a new Streak with an opportunity to reach 57 games. Our advice: don’t lose.

I agonized over today’s pick in an effort to reach 16. Couldn’t decide between Neil Walker and Chase Utley. Then I realized that weather could be an issue for Utley in Denver tonight. So I just said screw it and went with Joey Votto! I’m 7-0 with Joey V. this season.

Votto is one of my choices along with Kemp, M. Cabrera, A. Gordon, Cano, and one other that slipped my mind. I’ll figure it out by 7.

I just realized I put M. Cabrera which could be Melky or Miguel. I meant Melky.

If you could write a computer program to break down the stats for you, what stats would you use and how would you weight them?
For example,
Batting Avg, Average over last 10 days, Average vs pitcher, Average vs Lefty/Righty, Average at home/away, OBP of teams lineup (to predict likelyhood of more atbats), etc..
I would be curious as to how you guys would work the numbers..

If I win the $5.6 mil (or maybe even the $10k), I’ll be sure to share my formula. I still have a long way to go, but I’m doing better this year than ever before, with a 15 (current), 12, 11, and 9 so far, and a 75% overall success rate. But my top six streaks together only equals 56, which brings me back down to earth a little…

Im at 74% on the season (slow start) and 88% in the last 30 days (missed 3 in July). I could not imagine getting up above 30 as sitting at 14 is nerve wracking enough! If I somehow got to 56, I want to go to the game to see my hitter get my winning hit..its fun to dream..

Dang right it’s fun to dream. I already have plans for the money if I win. Stupid huh? But I’m not getting cocky. Every pick is so nerve wracking! I still am not 100% for today yet.

I’m going with Infante again today. GL guys.

Nice way to get your hit!

My final pick is in. Gaby Sanchez. GL!

You’ll move on today. My wife’s pick also & she’s pretty darn lucky

I hope so! First AB strikeout.

Hey Keith’s still alive!

Yeah, just barely. Really tired today; been a long day

But how high is her streak?

Just started in July. Her highest is 10, she’s on a 4-gamer right now

I was only this nervous a few days ago when I picked Freddie Freeman and he got a single in the bottom of the 7th or 8th inning. Come on Sanchez!!!!!

Does she put a lot of thought and research into her picks? Man, why am I thinking about this so much. He’s gonna get a hit!!!!

Don’t ask about her ‘strategy’, it’ll just make you more nervous ;)

:) rofl. I know her strategy.

I’m just hoping for a hit in his next AB or extra innings.

He can wait til the 9th and hit a 2-run homer to take the lead/win. FLA is my SFTC pick & was feeling pretty good about it until they changed pitchers

Who changed pitchers?

Just started the 7th; now both sides have pitching changes

Oh, see it now. Man it can’t end this way!! Just can’t!!

Break out them rabbits feet and brush the dust off of ‘em. Gaby due up in 8th and however it goes; right now, extras still a possibility

No rabbits feet here, just praying to the Big Man upstairs.

A K! That sucks, If Dobbs or Morrison knock in a run; Gaby may get another AB

And they don’t. Man this sucks!!!!

If Mets don’t score, still have a chance at a tie with 2 HR hitters coming up for Marlins.

But even if one of them hits a homerun, won’t I need like 7 or 8 batters to come to the plate for Sanchez to get another AB?

No, a tie would nearly guarantee Gaby gets up in the 10th, if not before then, if Mets don’t win it beforehand

So I’m rooting for a tie. This is against everything I know and believe in, but Let’s Go Marlins!!!!!

And they’re bringing in the right pitcher. He imploded last night. Just not too many runs now Isringhausen!

Bases loaded, one out. Looking tie-able, but don’t want 2+ runs & leave Gaby on deck

I know. Come on, let’s do this!!!!!

Well that blew it……………maybe.

2 runs scored; now you gotta hope for Mets to tie, not win, in the 9th. Glad I’m not in your shoes – been there, done that. Didn’t like it much :(

If it doesn’t work out, this is my punishment for changing from Melky Cabrera to Sanchez. I also had Votto, Teixeira, Cano, etc., all with hits tonight.

That didn’t help. :-(

That double play definitely didn’t help. Gaby was left on deck after all.
Great run to get on page #2 of the Top2500 !!!

Thanks man! I’m gonna try for one more streak starting tomorrow and if I don’t succeed, I’m off till next season.

Do you use a script to get these stats? Or do you do it manually?

Wooooo. 2 days in a row with a first AB hit, thank you infante. GL to the rest of ya.

All right, no sweating Votto tonight. Got to 16 on his first AB. Now go Reds!

OK, now come on Sanchez!!!

Rollins 0-3 makes 1st out in 7th; likely to see 1 more AB in 9th. Leader riding him

Utley 0-4 makes last out in 7th. Not as likely to see another AB. 4th place riding him

I did notice that as of now, it appears that tonight is going to be quite a reset night. I don’t feel AS bad, but it still does sting.

OK, “quite a reset night” might be pushing it. About 20% or so if my math is correct. Maybe not as my head is not right right now.

22.5 -

I had actually thought that today was the last day to start a streak and still reach 57, so I just felt really pumped that Miguel Cabrera dropped a ball at 1st base to extend the game and let Young get an infield single in the 9th inning to go 1 for 4!

Onto 1!

Even if 57 is not in reach after today, 41 certainly is. $10K is far better than nothing

True! I’ll go until no money is possible and then I’ll be done until next year.

now you can come back to SFTC, you’ve only missed 2 days.

I may, but I’m so upset right now that I need some time to just relax and forget about this. I’ve been playing this game for a few years now and so far 12 and 19 are the longest streaks. I really had something going. But the leader may go down tonight too and they were way higher than I was. So maybe SFTC can get my mind off this.

New leader tomorrow. The 36-gamer drops with Rollins
