Yesterday's results

It was one of those days in which the BTS gods seemingly conspired against the game's leaders.

First, GBaby was knocked from the top spot following his selection of Kevin Youkilis. Youk certainly had his chances in a victory over the Royals, but he could only muster a walk in five plate appearances. The o-fer ended GBaby's streak at 40 games, tied for the eighth-longest mark of the season.

Next, second-place contestant larrythemailman1 and stikid610, who was tied for third, also fell from the pack. The culprit behind the demise of their respective 35- and 33-game streaks was Matt Kemp, who also managed a lone walk in five plate appearances vs. the Nationals.

That left struck00, who received a 1-for-4 performance from Matt Holliday to move up to 34 games, as the new top dog in the standings. It's too late in the season for struck00 to topple DiMaggio's record, but he still has a shot at tying TannerNielsen's season mark of 45 games.

Yesterday's results

Despite the fewer choices available during Thursday's light slate of games, the Top 5 BTS leaders managed to hold steady in the standings.

enronshorttrader played it safe by selecting hit machine Ichiro Suzuki, who went 2-for-6 vs. the White Sox. The first of his hits extended the leader's streak to 40 games, marking the eighth time this season a contestant has reached that plateau.

GBaby remained stuck on 35 games for another day, as Kevin Youkilis didn't play vs. the Angels. That enabled khreynolds, who tabbed Ichiro to move up at 31 games, to inch closer to a share of second place.

larrythemailman1 went with Chase Utley (1-for-3) to reach the 30-game mark, and j-m-peterson brought his streak up to 29 games by selecting Evan Longoria (3-for-4).

enronshorttrader went with Joe Mauer for the second day in a row, a wise move considering that the Twins backstop came through with a pair of hits for the second day in a row. The performance moved the BTS leader's streak up to 39 games.

GBaby remained in second place, his 35-game streak unchanged following the selection of Manny Ramirez, who didn't play. While that scenario would normally give other contestants the chance to catch up, the two fans directly behind him, beashane and mcdonald6, both saw their 33-game streaks snapped.

That left khreynolds as the holder of third place, at 30 games. larrythemailman1 moved into the fourth spot with his 29-game streak and j-m-peterson locked down fifth place, at 28 games.

mcdonald6 remained in a tie for third thanks to a 1-for-3 performance from Shane Victorino. And with ch2fancbs' 30-game run having been snapped by a hitless day from Carl Crawford, three new fans took over a share of fifth place, at 29 games.

Yesterday's results

When Matt Holliday attempted to beat out a grounder to third in the third inning of yesterday's action, he tripped over first base and suffered a nasty bruise.

However, it's likely the pain he felt paled in comparison to that experienced by the BTS front-runners.

Holliday was pulled a couple of innings later, his day ending with a sacrifice fly and no hits over two plate appearances. Remarkably, that snapped the streaks of each of the Top 5 placeholders in the BTS standings. All five of those fans had compiled streaks of at least 35 games, with the leader, tshalterman, bowing out at 41.

And so, the next round of leaders will look to carry the torch with time running out to topple Joe D.'s magic No. 56. Johnyn and willisbran take over the top spot at 35 games, enronshorttrader and justindoak27 share third place at 32 games and grillmastr rounds out the new Top 5 at 31 games.

The long holiday weekend turned out to be an ideal time for many BTS leaders to pick Matt Holliday.

The hard-hitting outfielder didn't have one of his best games Monday, but his 1-for-5 effort was good enough for five of the Top 6 contestants. Included in that group was top dog tshalterman, whose 41-game streak is tied for the fourth-longest mark of the season.

Normally, the selection of Albert Pujols, who owns a stellar .333 career batting average, is about as safe as it gets in BTS play.

Of course, not even Prince Albert can get a hit in every game, and phadrus74 had the misfortune of picking the Cardinals masher on an off day. When Pujols struck out to finish a 0-for-4 performance, it ended phadrus74's 41-game run, leaving him tied for the fourth-longest streak of the season.

Fellow Top 5 contestants thebcjman and chuppie21 also tabbed Pujols, leading to a bit of upheaval at the front of the pack.

As such, tshalterman stands as the new leader after getting a 1-for-3 effort from Miguel Cabrera to improve to 37 games. DoctorPeteRose moved into second place, at 35 games, on the strength of a 1-for-4 night from Matt Diaz, while five finished the day at the 33-game mark.

An infusion of pinstriped love somehow seeped into the computers of the BTS field yesterday, as 11 of the Top 13 contestants picked either Derek Jeter or Robinson Cano.

On the other side of second base, Jeter delivered just enough (1-for-5) to help out those who were relying on him. tshalterman moved up to 36 games to hold onto second place, thebcjman remained in a tie for third and chuppie21 held onto his share of fifth, at 33 games.
