Opening Night 2012 is FINALLY here!

I went with the douible dip of Matt Holliday and Hanley Ramirez to kick things off.

Not thrilled about picking against Josh Johnson, but he has some awesome splits here and I’d rather not fall behind the leader already.

I wonder how the leaderboard will work this year though?

Matt Wieters may get a hit tonight – but can somebody please tell Bcarter not to pick until the others catch up? Its killing me. Maybe he quits when he gets to 35

I know it is not much, but you do get a $50 MLB.com gift certificate for reaching the 35-game mark.

So they might be playing for that.

Our slow friend went for it today though with Jose Reyes.

Heres the strategy:

Bcarter should stop picking until someone ties him.
HeretheXX and OlayOil should pick until the other loses and then stop picking. They can start picking again if ysd38 gets even with them.

So we have 8 days left including today so anyone 22 or more coming in can reach 30 and be eligible for the monthly prize. If the leader loses, then the guy in second at 30 who keeps picking Morneau will win the prize unless some at 23+ passes him to 31. If the leader wins today only the guys at 28,29, and 30 can get higher than 33 and beat him.

So basically, he should do the same thing as number 2 and pick Morneau until someone gets equal to him since ties award the prize to everyone tied.

Actually, no, I forgot that if you are tied, you both get the monthly prize.

So he could wait now until the no-pick guy budges into a tie with him before having to make that decision.

But the basic idea is the same as what I posted above.

Depends on how many hits the guy had in the game that got him to 31 though.

If it was only 1, then the strategy could go onto the last day of the season and the leader would have to pick between being vulnerable or just going for it and risking 2 weeks of no-picks.

Yep – Definitely slow playing – has Morneau again. Not a bad strategy, but the guy at 31 should do the same and force him to pick.

Oh, I guess I misinterpreted the rules then?

I thought the monthly prize would be whomever gets the longest streak, comprised entirely of days within that month.

Meaning you could technically win the September monthly prize with a streak under 30 games, since there is only 28 days in the month.

Glad to see that Tuesday’s blog post is up late AGAIN and watch the post time lie and say it went up at 1100 AM again!

Looks like the 3rd place guy is slow playing try to steal the monthly prize – I guess we’ll see if he goes with Mauer and Morneau the rest of the way
