Yesterday’s results

Had David Wright not collected a hit last night, there would have been major upheaval at the top of the BTS standings.

But Mr. Wright came through with a single in his first at-bat, pushing leader TannerNielsen’s streak to 45 games. The single also extended the streaks of each of the subsequent seven contestants in the standings.

Second-place fan paulcmoss84 moved up to 39 games, one ahead of crtownse. FROD is up to 36 games, while 0nmoskovits and jrjbears share fifth place with their 33-game streaks.

Yesterday’s Top 5 most selected players

1. Albert Pujols (STL): 37.7%, 1-for-4

3. Derrek Lee (CHC): 6.9%, 1-for-4
4. Carlos Beltran (NYM): 4.6%, 0-for-0
5. Chone Figgins (LAA): 2.8%, 0-for-3

Mauer or Suzuki today guys? This is becoming too obvious!! Anyone who doesnt just rotate Mauer/Suzuki/Wright and occasionally throw in Pujols or Hanley Ramirez is looking for trouble….

I would say Joe Mauer. I will most likely go with him but every time I pick him, I pick the rare days when he does not hit. He has destroyed all my streaks this yr. If this was a contest of picking days when Mauer won’t hit, I won hands down.

Wow…that was close…Mauer just flew out to the warning track, just a shade to the left of dead center field!

Still though, Mauer most likely gets 5 AB’s at this rate, so he still has 3 more chances left!!!

holy crap…0 for 4…Mauer is the only guy in the Twins’ order not to have a hit yet.

he is guaranteed to get at least 1 more AB, provided the Twins do not take him out of the game.

The Twins would need to get at least 8 more baserunners to get Mauer a 6th AB or the Brewers would need to tie the game.

lol…that *high-five!* is usually common on blogs when you make the same minute post and it was doubly so, because we both indicated the 0 for 4 for Mauer so far.

Sadly, I have Mauer today also, but I think it is better for my 0-game hit streak to not budge for today and also snap the leader’s streak, so my goal does not keep expanding further and further away from me.

If the Brewers do not tie it up this inning, then there is no chance of extra innings, which means it will all come down to Mauer’s AB to lead off the 9th inning.

dont ya just love nailbiters like this.
I also took Mauer and have not problem going back to Zero since the top two people picked him tody

  8. champion_88

    0 for 5.

If I would have been at 14, if Figgins had come through yesterday, I still would have been pissed though, even with the leader having him.

The streak is still not over though. The Twins could bat around or the Brewers could tie the game in the 9th inning.

The Marlins blew a 6-3 lead going into the 9th inning today after all.

But the chances are down to like 1 or 2%, for even getting another opportunity.

What was your streak coming into today?

  10. champion_88

There are two ways to look at this loss though:

    1) At least Mauer got his opportunities: 5 AB’s is mostly all you can ask for in a 9-inning game, although I have seen Aaron Hill get 6 AB’s in a 9-inning game against the Phillies recently.

Wright got just 3 PA today, which is very rare, especially when the team bats in the 9th inning and just 2 AB.

    2) On the other hand, every other starter in the Twins’ order got at least one hit.

The Mets only picked up 2 hits as a team and the starter was dominating.

Is 6 games the threshold of where you would want to keep your streak VS willing to lose it to stop the leader?

Read my posts about JM for last 3 days:
“I wouldn’t pick Mauer either. He is beginning to slump. I know he hit a HR today but HRs are always pitcher’s mistake.”

“I will most likely go with him but every time I pick him, I pick the rare days when he does not hit. ”

So that 2 days ago when Wandy shut down the Twins for 2-hitter really masked whether Mauer was slumping or not. Now, we know. He was slowing down.

I guess I am the jinxter. My 3 game hitting streak is over!

I would like to thank Jeff Suppan for having the audacity to not cop out against Mauer. I would also like to thank Carlos Gomez for stealing all the thunder away from Mauer.

This has happened so many times over the yrs. Definitely with me and with many leaders as well. Everyone gets a hit except (sometimes even the pitcher) the guy that looked like the sure bet.

In all honesty, I didn’t Wildtanners was such a great picker. He was no where as good as Spooky93 or Mkaratzia. He happened to get the latter part of his streak when Mauer and Suzuki were really out of whack. I mean most of his picks were so predictable.

In the game odds, if everybody picks the same, all will lose in the end!

  13. champion_88

Wow…not even giving them a chance to make a rally…I did not think Nathan would be brought in in a non-save opportunity.

  14. gamara21

man if suzuki breaks too it will be a massacre. I have to disagree with all the hype about Tanner though. 45 is not that close. 54 is close.

  15. neil_p

“Im sure Tanner is drinking something hard right now. “

And meanwhile, FROD is feeling pretty damn good.

  16. jagx

I dunno what i was on when i changed from ichiro…to mauer….to finally Andrew McCutchen. But i feel like a genius now.

If ichiro goes hitless, well over 1/3rd of the pickers today would be back at 0

  17. champion_88

    Wow…8th inning single for Ichiro!

How ironic that the streak-breaker last year, came through today, in a big drought day, in his last AB no less!

Tanner must be going ballistic now…if Ichiro went hitless, at least he could have taken solace that all his other normal options failed today also.

  18. champion_88

lol…at the end of the day, Ichiro goes 2 for 5 anyway…so far…Mariners now have 1st and 2nd, no out, down 9-6.
