Beat the Streak Report: Weekend, Sept. 17-19

480x270_Tulo.gif

Get out that limbo stick because it looks like “mattgoldbeck” wants to dance.

Our streak leader and only remaining hope is now rocking a 37-game streak after Paul Konerko’s big night at the yard.

All Goldbeck needs to do is string together a 20 game streak and pray
for a three-way tie atop the NL West and $3,000,000 will be his.

That doesn’t sound too improbable or anything.

Speaking of Paul Konerko, Pauly Walnuts’ golden bat went yard Thursday
night to extend our Home Run Beat the Streak Leader, “stealth47″, to an
eight-game streak.

If “stealth47″ can successfully predict a homer for tonight, we’ll have a two-way tie atop the overall HR BTS leaderboard.

Yes, things are getting saucy here in Streakland.

Since I’m not eligible to win the $3 million Beat the Streak grand prize, I might as well try to help you out. Every weekday, make sure to check out the Beat the Streak Report to improve your odds with all the stats goodness you could ever dream of. You know, assuming you could use an extra three mill.

August 20-22

The referee is stepping in!

He’s stopping the fight — there’s the bell. This one’s over, folks!

James Loney went 0-for-4 last night against Jorge De La Rosa and Matt Reynolds, ending Geoff Croke’s bid for $3,000,000 and Beat the Streak immortality at 43 games.

“Gfc2112″ will have to settle for a tie with Dick George atop the season leaderboard.

Who told him to take Loney, anyway?

What? The Dodgers first baseman headlined yesterday’s Beat the Streak Report? Oh, um…awkward.

Let’s just move on.

Thursday was a rough slate for gamers overall, as the three most popular options — Victor MartinezJosh Hamilton and Delmon Young — went a combined 0-for-11 and ended 20.4 percent of all streaks.

Let’s give Geoff one more round of applause for his impressive ride. Hopefully he won’t spend too much time dwelling on what could have been, had he just picked Miguel Cabrera.

Or Vlad Guerrero.

Or Robinson Cano.

Oh, hello there …

Ichiro Suzuki: .400 AVG (6-for-15) lifetime vs. Yankees starter A.J. Burnett

Saturday

Willie Bloomquist: .389 AVG (7-for-18) lifetime vs. White Sox starter Freddy Garcia

Sunday

You’ll thank me later …

Friday

Nick Swisher: .226 AVG (7-for-31) lifetime vs. Mariners starter Felix Hernandez

Saturday

Leaderboard time!

With both Croke and “rtaylor2001″ both going down, “warriorcub” is all alone atop the standings at 27 games.

“Soxwhite24″ and “sunhudson” are tied for second at 26.

Keep cranking out those picks, guys. You’ll be at the halfway point soon enough.

Yesterday’s results

Hanley Ramirez was the trendy pick among BTS titans Thursday.  The dynamic shortstop’s 1-for-4 night helped sustain jagzrule77’s perch atop the leaderboard, as his streak reached 37 games.

Moving into a tie for second — also on the strength of Han-Ram — were cwahl and phadrus74, who pushed their runs of perfection to 35 in a row.

It wasn’t good news all around, though, as thatsawinner didn’t live up to his name for the first time in a long time, incorrectly selecting Albert Pujols to end a formidable 35-game streak.

Yesterday’s Top 5 most selected players

1. Ichiro Suzuki (SEA): 12.6%, 0-for-0
2. Hanley Ramirez (FLA): 10.8%, 1-for-4
3. Albert Pujols (STL): 8.1%, 0-for-2
4. Ryan Braun (MIL): 5.8%, 1-for-5
5. Prince Fielder (MIL): 5.4%, 1-for-3
