Beat the Streak Report: Wednesday, August 4

480x270_McCann.gif

One day after a stagnation nation stymied streaks across the hemisphere, Streakers recovered in a big way.

Six of the seven most popular selections from Tuesday each laced hits,
combining to extend the streaks of almost 30 percent of the wondrous
world wide web.

Atta boy!

Tuesday’s biggest doomsday device came in the form of Troy Tulowizki,
whose 0-for-3 night shocked and awed 4.7 percent of the field.

Two things before we get to Wednesday’s picks:

1) My mistake in featuring Johnny Damon as a Pick of the Day yesterday.
Totally forgot that the Tigers had a doubleheader. Yes, I’m a Tigers
fan. This is what happens when you give up on your team after they get
obliterated by injuries and field Minor Leaguers for weeks at a time.

2) No, you can’t really combine your streaks with others and split the $3,000,000. Well, you can’t anymore.
I eliminated that option once I realize that my highest streak was so
small no one would ever want to join forces with me. And if I can’t wear
gold-plated slippers the rest of my life, no one can.

Sorry, kiddos!

Time for Wednesday’s Picks:

Oh, hello there …

? Brian McCann: .441 AVG (15-for-34) lifetime vs. Mets starter Mike Pelfrey

? Carl Crawford: .500 (5-for-10) lifetime vs. Twins starter Scott Baker

? Brian Roberts: .370 AVG (10-for-27) lifetime vs. Angels starter Ervin Santana

? Pablo Sandoval: .400 AVG (10-for-25) lifetime vs. Rockies starter Ubaldo Jimenez

? Jorge Posada: .467 AVG (7-for-15) lifetime vs. Blue Jays starter Shaun Marcum

Feeling kinda spicy?

? Jose Lopez: .500 AVG (8-for-16) lifetime vs. Rangers starter C.J. Wilson

? Julio Lugo: .438 AVG (7-for-16) lifetime vs. Angels starter Ervin Santana

You’ll thank me later …

? Johnny Damon: .154 AVG (4-for-26) lifetime vs. White Sox starter Edwin Jackson

? Hunter Pence: .083 AVG (1-for-12) lifetime vs. Cardinals starter Chris Carpenter

? Corey Hart: .148 AVG (4-for-27) lifetime vs. Cubs starter Ryan Dempster

? Jayson Werth: .125 AVG (2-for-16) lifetime vs. Marlins starter Anibal Sanchez

Leaderboard time!

“nycgreg” bit the dust after A-Rod’s 0-fer, which means that “gfc2112”
and “randy.zimmer” have first place to their lonesome selves with
respective 28-game streaks.

28 games is an incredible accomplishment.

Now all they need to do is just double it and add one.

Rinse and repeat.

Top MLB streakers

? Yorvit Torrealba: 15 games

? David Ortiz: 12 games

? Raul Ibanez: 11 games

? Stephen Drew: 10 games

? Hunter Pence: 10 games

? Juan Pierre: 10 games

? Alexei Ramirez: 10 games

going with Mr. Joey Vottomatic. hopefully his tweaked wrist doesnt affect him enough to not get a hit.

Hey guys and girls, I chose Austin Jackson in BTS. He went off in that DH yesterday and I’m hoping it starts him on a hot streak. Facing Edwin Jackson and he hits righties better than lefties.
    BTS-Austin Jackson
HR BTS-Nick Swisher, Day game today and ball travels in the Stadium during the day. Today may be the day that A Rod does finally to get the monkey off his back. If not your going to hear all kind of theories if he does it against the Red Sox.
Survivor-Cards, Cards lost 2 straight to the Astros but Carpenter is pitching and he is their “ace”. I’m hoping he ends the losing streak for the Cards.
    Good luck to all today.

Yesterday was disappointing, I’ve been in a beat the streak funk even as I even fell for the DH Damon trap. With his 0 fer in the 1st game that’s twice in the past week that my pick went 0 fer and the batter before him got hits at every AB except 1. On July 30 I had Michael Young the only Texas starter to go 0 fer (ouch) and Elvis Andrus who bats lead off went 4 for 5. Yesterday Austin Jackson went 3 for 4.
It’s now or never for beat the streak, there are 61 days left including today and there needs to be a few days to afford a “did not play”. I was @9 in survivor but was reset by the Yankees.
    Today’s picks;
    Home run BTS: Albert Pujols
    Beat the Streak: Brian McCann
    Survivor:Rays
    Highest no selections;
Home run BTS: 2 way tie “debbypetersen, dinonizzola, on page 1 with HR streaks of 4.
Beat the streak: “jamesh3014″ on page 2 with a streak of 15.
    Survivor:”pitchem3” page 1 with a win streak of 15.
NO PICKS are welcome to join me at 0!

Yippee A-roid finnaly hit it. Now at 1 in HR bts. Now let’s see him go on a streak now the pressures off.

  8. dodgerlu

Riding Josh Hamilton to get me to 6. I’m on 5 in a row for like the 10th time, can never get past it.

Dave – Thanks for the clarification about the Damon Pick of the Day on Tuesday. We all do crazy things in BTS at times.
My giant mistake of the 2009 BTS season also involved Damon and it was a major train wreck!
Guys come on and please follow me on this one:
Cubs Starlon Castro went 4 – 5 on Wed. v. Brewers. I took him the past 3 days and have a 3 game streak now.
    1. Fast as a deer with 20 year old legs.
    2. Disciplined at the plate but does not walk much
    3. Batting in the two hole every game
    4. Batting over .300 and should be a “rookie of the year” candidate in NL.
    On to Thursday………………

  10. dragbunt104

Ooops – Starlon Castro fast as a deer. He has 20 year old super quick “Human”. Good infield hit man for sure. 🙂

  11. yanksgiantsdevils33

Pick it up Rays, I don’t want to see another pick lose with their ace and to a mediocre pitcher.
Good news: Brian McCann is 3 for 4 and Pujols has homered so I’m at 1 in BTS and HR BTS. Speaking of home runs congratulations to A-Rod on getting #600!

  12. dragbunt104

BTS – Hot hitter of the day Carlos Gonzalez – Pittsburg is a lefty favored hitting park.
    HR – See above
    Survivor – Rocks
Alex Rios in a day game today. He had an o-fer in Sunday’s Day game on 8/1. (?)
