Beat the Streak Report: Thursday, June 2

With only seven games scheduled, today’s slate is light even for a Thursday.

You know what that means: The sharks smell blood in the water. Your streaks are bobbing around helplessly in a vast ocean, and any number of catastrophes could befall them.

We’ve sent out some lifeboats below, but it’s up to you to swim over and climb in. Oh, and we guess there’s always the Coast Guard-helicopter-rescue “Holliday option.” But we could never endorse such a maneuver.

Keith. I’ll pull stats for today then email yesterday and today’s files. Not going to have time to post.

Today is going to be a tough day. Hamilton will be in top 15 for tonight along with Young and the Picks Of The Day and Ichiro. I’m torn myself but I know I’m going with the early game.

  3. LaVolpe

Today’s leader taking a calculated risk. Going with Kubel but on rotoworld yesterday, manager said he was going to put either Kubel or Thome on the DL this week. In other words, odds are Kubel is not starting, but could pinch. Anticipation…

I should have taken McCutchen, he’s already 2 for 2 and the Mets have only had 3 batters including an 0 for 1 Beltran.

      • yanksgiantsdevils33

Beltran is 2 for 3 with a 3 run blast and a double! 🙂 🙂 🙂 I was just worried before that the Pirates would have all the fun.

Some notes about Top2500 top picks
:: Pujols. 8 Apr vs. Sanchez. 0-3 with a strikeout. Got single late in game off reliever. How soon people forget
:: Hamilton & Young. Pretty much picks of faith; no pitcher history. Hamilton 0-for-last 12 ABs
:: Holliday. Safe-pick. Announced full day in advance he’ll be on the DL today.
Above noted, could set tables for some unexpected resets today. But this is BTS and we all know, you can’t play the game on paper
The PIT/NYM high picks already got hits in the early game.

A bit bored waiting on the nite games to start. So scrolling thru the Top2500 streakers found something quite interesting. Look at these user-names and their current streaks:
    jvairo_18 @ 18 games
    jvairo_78 @ 13 games
    jvairo_38 @12 games
    jvairo_26 @ 11 games
    jvairo_34 @ 10 games
    jvairo_11 @ 10 games
    jvairo_17 @ 10 games
    jvairo_35 @ 9 games
    jvairo_31 @ 9 games
    jvairo_41 @ 9 games
    jvairo_29 @ 8 games
    jvairo_70 @ 8 games
So, think some cheating is going on or does jvairo have like 80 family members playing 😉

    • Vinny1979

I wouldn’t even worry about it because if he does win he won’t because u can only use one email and they monitor it.

      • LaVolpe

Oh, I totally agree. Before MLB insurance kicked out 5.6 big ones, they’d do some verification. But what about those monthly prizes or mlb.tv prizes? Wonder if MLB puts in the effort to identify “cheaters” then? Just putting it out there. It’s MLB’s problem, not mine.

      • LaVolpe

Actually, either the rules changed or I didn’t pay close enough attention last year. Playing multiple accounts does not disqualify you, based on my interpretation of the rules. Here is an excerpt from the rules page: “In case of multiple registrations received from any person or email address, only the first registration received from such person or email address will be considered.” Reading that, I would assume that jvairo’s first registration is the only valid one, all the others are basically ‘for fun’. However, if javiro is playing 100’s of accounts, probably some sort of scripting is in play and that’s a rules violation. Also, there is a generic cheaters rule: “Any incidence of collusion or cheating, as determined by MLBAM in its sole discretion, will be subject to disqualification from the Contest without limitation to any other rights or remedies available to MLBAM.”

This might be way off base, but I sort of wonder if MLB would allow people to use multiple accounts as long as they put each pick in themselves?

I say this because every pick they put in generates another 5 or 6 clicks for the site and another set of views for the ads on the site. All that clicking might help inflate how much money they can receive for selling ads on the site.

But if a script was putting everything in, then no one is seeing the ads at all and so MLB would not benefit that way.

      • LaVolpe

Same guy/gal. I believe Yanks brought it up in the 1st week or two when a few of those accounts showed up on the 1st and 2nd pages of the overall standings

  8. LaVolpe

Anyone notice that new section hovering over the Standings button after you log in? It’s called “Featured”. Kinda neat. You’ll see some past $10K winners are still playing and who they picked and what their streaks are, along with some celebrities too.

lol @ Hazel Mae: No Selection

Maybe she could help explain why people forget to put picks in everyday!
