Beat the Streak Report: Tuesday, June 28
Streakers, take a bow.
For the first time this season, you’ve slayed the mythical dragon that is 15-for-15. Jose Bautista led the way with a 2-for-4, Starlin Castro brought up the rear with a triple in four at-bats and everyone in between also notched at least one base knock.
Don’t believe us? Boom! Photo evidence:
When all was said and done, nearly 79 percent of all Monday selectors experienced peanut butter jelly time from one of these 15 sluggers alone. It’s a truly historic achievement, one which many of you have surely dreamed about since the dawn of your Streaking careers.
Take the morning off to celebrate. Just make sure you’re back by 2:15 to make one of …

Leaderboard time
Miguel Cabrera was the silver medalist in yesterday’s popularity contest at 15.8 percent, and both current sheriff jonroy73 and his deputy bclark2779 featured among that total. Mr. Roy’s move to 37 games ties him for the season lead. So far 100 percent of people who reached that total have failed to advance (sample size: 1). In other words, the prognosis is not promising.
Top MLB streakers
Ryan Braun: 17 games
Nick Markakis: 16 games
Alex Gordon: 14 games
Michael Young: 12 games
Starlin Castro: 11 games
Dustin Pedroia: 11 games
Home Run Beat the Streak pick:
Carlos Gonzalez: (12 HR this season) vs. White Sox starter Gavin Floyd
After yesterday’s success, today has massacre written all over it.
The best pick I see today is Pablo Sandoval and he is playing in a doubleheader. I would never consider picking in a doubleheader if I like any matchups in single games since a doubleheader provides double chance at being reset. Pablo Sandoval is 9 for 21 (.429) against Doug Davis and 6 for 12 (.500) against Rodrigo Lopez. The one fear I have at this point is Sandoval pinch hitting in one of the games. He has pinch hit 3 times this season (2 when the Giants were on the winning end of blowouts) and he has gone O fer all 3 times. All of those pinch hitting appearances came in April before he was injured and he has not pinch hit in the 12 games since coming back from a wrist injury which caused him to miss 40 games but none of those involved a doubleheader. I have my pause option (Albert Pujols) in place for today if I can’t confirm if he is going to play in the 2nd game or find a good match-up outside the double header.
There is a full slate today, over 200 hitters to pick from. Lots of good match-ups. I think you are just starting to feel a bit scared, one game away from tying your season high streak 😉
If you got the guts to pick in a doubleheader, on purpose, while owning a double digit streak — wow!
I ended up using my pause option which I must admit is a bit cowardly but I smell a massacre. It doesn’t mean that some people won’t get hits though. I was thinking of pulling the trigger on Jose Reyes or Daniel Murphy but you never know against pitchers unfamiliar to those hitters.
I also think Pablo Sandoval might pinch hit in the 2nd game.
Massacre? Pffft. Even with the worse massacre we’ve seen, still about 40% made it thru. It’s all just a matter of luck. Now if there were only a couple games tonight, then I’d consider taking a pause with a high streak…
There was a 20-gamer that did pick Sandoval
Hah, that’s insane! Best of luck to them.
YGD – see you at 16!
Got lucky. Sandoval got hit on last AB in Game 2 of the DH.
Aramis just saved another 3 with a hr in the ninth.
I like Adrian today but Tex is a very interesting pick to me for today and I want to try to avoid Lee but decisions, decisions.
Data is pulled. I’ll post when I get to work tonight. Reset ended up being <7% last night.

Top 3 leaders move on today. A 40-gamer is coming really close
I was thinking of taking Jose Reyes, Daniel Murphy, and A-Rod but before you know it the lock time had passed. All 3 have come through although I did take Reyes on Baseball Hot Streak on Fox.
Could’ave, Would’ave, Should’ave… Gotta pick to play 😉
Keep taking pauses and my wife will catch up to you too 🙂
She’s now at 10 with A-Rod’s hit.
Thanks I needed that, for now on I’ll only accept a pause for a rainout.
Tomorrow I’m taking Pablo Sandoval or Josh Hamilton, on Thursday Matt Holliday and on Friday Pablo Sandoval.
If we don’t start to see some sacrifices tonight, this could be a back-to-back-to-back low reset day. Don’t think it’ll be single digits, but could be in the tweens. A-Gone, probably 1 more AB in 9th. Kemp going 0-fer against a so-so lefty? Wouldn’t count on it.
1st sacrifice in: A-Gone. Maybe a few more? Even lesser ones?
Keeping a close eye on Braun and Kemp
Braun is good.
Kemp still a hopeful with 1 AB left.
Lesser sacrifices still alive: Butler 0-1 has 72 picks. Konerko 0-3 has 67 picks. Otherwise, no others left except the “No Selects” & the 42 that picked S.Castro 0-5 in Game 1 of DH.
Joe Narhan just told Robo-Kemp to have a seat. O-fer pending rally or extras.
Well that’ll make it a more of an average reset rate. Konerko and/or Butler could at a few more points to the tally.
If that isn’t enough motivation YGD – one more Pujols and you’ll be passed 🙂
Why does Matt Capps alwasys have to make it so interesting?? Robo-Kemp gets left in the hole and takes 250 streakers down with his 0-fer.
With hundreds of possible picks today, I’m almost shocked that 164 people took A-Gone. Granted he was 7-10 against Cliff Lee in the past. But Lee just came off 2 shutout complete games before the shutout complete game tonite. During is last 3 games, 26 innings, he allowed 12 hits and that’s about 4 hits per game.
There is a saying in baseball, “It’s not who you play, it’s when you play them”. In other words, if those 164 spent 9+ days getting on the Top2500, why would you risk your streak against a hot pitcher, and one of the premier pitchers in the game? I guess that might be the last time they do that, huh? Especially the 29,26,23,21,20 & 4 18-gamers that picked him. Painful lesson indeed.
