Beat the Streak Report: Wednesday, June 29

A lot of BTS players would have crossed off the entire opposing lineup when they saw Zack Greinke‘s name on the probable pitchers list.

Our current leader is apparently not one of those players.

Jonroy73 showed no fear of the Brewers right-hander last night, rolling with Robinson Cano and hitting paydirt on the second baseman’s second-inning RBI single. Although Greinke entered the game with a 4.77 ERA, his history of dominance made Mr. Roy’s Tuesday pick a little riskier than most. Hey, live by the Yankees lineup, die by the Yankees lineup, we guess.

Anyway, only seven players in Major League history have reached jonroy’s total of 38 games. A hit tonight would tie him with Paul Molitor‘s 39 game run in 1987. Good luck and Bourn-speed.

Picked Damo w/ the leader, but not seeing anyone else in between us. I’m not sure if I should feel concerned or relieved.

Answer: Always feel concerned when you have double digit streaks.
Volquez hasn’t been great in last several outings, allowing over 1 hit per inning on average but pitches better during daytime and away.
Damon hit safely in only 3 of last 8 games & has a home average of just 220
Those are simply stats. But like any pick; gotta put the ball in play and then hope for the best

It is slightly concerning when the opposing pitcher has a 3-run lead and hasn’t given up their first hit yet after 4 innings. I have Casey Kotchman today and he walked during his first appearance. He’s due up first next inning, so let’s hope he cancels the post-game show

I think the batting gods heard me or something. Single to left and I’m done for the day. Ken, I’d love to root for you, but since you and the leader both picked the same player, I need you to sacrifice yourself. 😉

*wipes brow* . I was thinking about how awful it would be to have a deep streak and to select the same player as someone sitting at 56.

      • LaVolpe

You know how to solve that problem don’t you? You make sure you’re the one with 56

Those that picked A-Gone best hope he gets a hit in first 2 or 3 ABs. Probably won’t be in the game towards the end if score is close. He’s playing outfield today unless manager changes his mind before game starts.

    • ChiSox07

You don’t think he’d be moved to 1st late in the game if its still close for defensive purposes?

      • LaVolpe

Possible. Guess depends maybe on whether or not BOS is winning and if Ortiz is hot?

    • LaVolpe

Don’t think I have to worry about it now. Grandy 0-2 & 2 BB. Need MIL to score 3+ runs in 8/9th innings or NYY to bat around in the 8th for him to come up again.
