BTS Leader Enters Holiday Weekend at 40 Games
Season leader jonroy73 A.K.A. Jonathan Roy summited Mt. 40 Games yesterday, digging deep into the player pool to select White Sox outfielder Juan Pierre. Any time you can risk the Streak of a lifetime on a guy hitting .256 for the season and .236 for the month, you just HAVE to do it, right? Uh, apparently.
Anyway, Mr. Roy — who in my head pronounces his last name like Patrick Roy — is now tied for the 23rd-longest streak in BTS history. A successful three-day weekend could vault him into into the top eight all-time. After the Pierre pick, Willy Taveras and Scott Podsednik eagerly await their chances to help in that effort.
Current runner-up Bclark2779 also continued his momentous run, reaching 36 games thanks to a 1-for-3 from popularity king Victor Martinez. Jon Roy may be the Streak darling of the moment, but the Clarkster is very quietly closing in on his own 40-gamer.
Enjoy the weekend and the Fourth. The Report’s semi-annual four-days-for-the-price-of-one sale is below.

JonRoy’s streak now in jeopardy. He bravely agreed to a blog interview yesterday. We all know what that means: The dreaded Interview Jinx
In honor of the leader’s 40 gamer there were 40 comments on yesterday’s blog.
I must say that I would not be where I am now (18) if not for my decision on Wednesday. I planned to take Sandoval or Hamilton and took Sandoval. Sandoval got a hit, Hamilton went O fer. With that said today is another BIG day as I aim for 19.
This will be a 4-day blog; how many comments do you think it will contain by 5 July? I’d say more than 40
Last year the weekend blogs would go over 100 posts. This year seems to have little activity with many hours between posts sometimes. If this doesn’t reach at least 60 posts then this board is dead.
I dare someone to choose Adam Dunn.
Good luck YGD/all!
Picking same as the leaders again I see. I’d like to think my jinxing abilities could work today, but Paulie could get 5 ABs and you can’t keep a good hitter hitless with 5 ABs very often.
Good luck ken and everyone!
The #1 and #2 active streaks have Konerko — who just went to 0-1 in his first two plate apperances (he had a sac fly in the first). Probably three more PAs…
And let the leader-watch begin: 0-3 PA after 6 innings…
As a Sox fan, Konerko is having a fantastic year and is keeping the team alive. However, watching him lately, he’s been in a bit of a “slump” since he lost his HR streak last week against the Cubs. Granted, he only went from hitting .331 to .321, but I wouldn’t be overly confident picking him at this point of the season, regardless of his huge June numbers.
Except against mediocre lefties 😉
Haha, Wells is one of those pitchers who shouldn’t have, but did end my streak last eyar. Forever scars the mind from picking against him.
On a side note, Konerko retired to start the 8th against relief pitcher, Kerry Wood.
Year*
Paulie leads off the 8th. If no hit recorded, needs a bit of help to come up again in the 9th. Drum roll please…
Uh-oh…
Barring extras or a bat-around. Konerko changed the leader board quite a bit
At least with Pierre, he is 9 for his last 19 for a .473 BA and a .500 OBP during the 4 game stretch. After losing my 14-gamer yesterday, I’ve been inspired to pick him today and it pulled through. Only 56 more!
I’m right alongside you. Reset yesterday at 14 (almost picked Pierre). Went with A.J. today to get back on track.
Damn Whelp it’s been a fun ride – I even switched from Bautista at the final minute. Condolences to the leader(s). I’m going to give this one more try.
I’m sorry about how Konerko turned out for you, Good run and I wish you even better luck on your next run. YanksGiantsDevils33

Highest active streak is now 30 going to tonight.
Does anyone else think this person was crazy choosing Hafner tonight when Cleveland was playing in an NL park? I for one think they got lucky that Cleveland jumped out to a big lead and didn’t need to pinch hit with him. Could have easily lost 30 games with a simple pinch hit strikeout… Maybe there’s just something I don’t know?
I agreed with that one. Hafner isn’t playing the field at all and it was a dumb move but he froze anyway since Hafner didn’t play. I think they need to abolish the DH.

Reyes pickers lucky he got a lead-off single. Apparently he left with a hamstring issue.
http://twitter.com/#!/Ken_Rosenthal/status/87260429449043968
Sad to say, but could be a good thing. Reyes has been nothing short of a gimme lately. Means some people will have to pick someone else 😉
Heard on ESPN that MRI tomorrow, but expect Reyes to play on Monday. Wait & see
Konerko with an infield single in the ninth to make himself 1-4 today. I chose Pierzynski today who batted right after him. No such luck. 😛 My streak of 1 is now over!
And Votto with a home on last AB, my streak of 0 is now over 🙂 Starting to feel this year is joke performed by the BTS gods. P.S. The wife had Konerko today & has a 2-gamer; oh joy!
*homer
One of the co-leaders today has McCann (on the bench today). PH opportunity?
I think he will be the very first one off the bench to pinch hit or he could come in for defense late in the game.
If so, it’d have to be the 9th or extras and losing. Teams don’t like to use their backup catchers, especially when on their day off. My gut says that co-leader is safe, but no longer in the lead as the other co-leader moved on.
Woo hoo Berkman puts me back on the board with that solo blast. 1 down 56to go.
If nobody wins this prize this year, instead of raising the amount of the grand prize again in 2012, I think MLB.com should consider a wider array of prizes (or, better yet, cash for milestones). $50 gift card for 35 games is a joke. Raise this to $1000 and I guarantee more participation and viral interest. Up the ante of 45 game streaks to $20,000. 5.6m for a grand prize is sufficient 🙂
I was just thinking the same thing. Prizes for best BA of the month would also be good. The stats are already being kept.
YanksGiantsDevils – nice work hitting 20!
Thanks ken! 🙂

2nd most picked Braun in Top2500 not in lineup. PH potential? Tough call. Does manager risk his 22 game hit streak or not? Obviously the score & need will dictate
Also Konerko sitting in his game. PH more likely there I’d say.
potential *massacre* today
And the leader (0-4) is in jeopardy. Needs 3 extra hitters to plate for another AB. May see Konerko PH next inning.
On cue, Konerko PH walk. Leader will get 1 more AB.
Well one highly-picked PH got thru the day. With MIL losing, will Braun PH for Hart or Wilson in the 9th?
It’s dead! My run of 20 straight picks that hit safely (excluding pause days) has come to an end with A-Rod’s 0 for 5 performance. Amazingly this followed a 17 game run with 1 O fer in between.
It sounds like homer (Yankee) picks have been the big streakbreakers for my 4 longest streaks.
Last season I lost a streak of 17 on Nick Swisher, this season I lost a 15 on Derek Jeter, a 17 on Robinson Cano and now my all time high of 20 ends with A-Rod.
I enjoyed the run of 20/20 and 37/38 (pauses included) while it lasted!
pauses *excluded*
If Hamilton doesn’t hit, not only will it add to the day’s hit reset rate, it will eliminate all of today’s Bloggers Group Top2500 members.
Sucks, considering on thursday we had 9 of us.
Somewhere close to 50% reset rate among Top2500 will do that, unfortunately.
Just FYI: The wife, who has no knowledge of baseball, gets thru the weekend with Braun’s DNP yesterday & Lind’s single today. Luck vs. knowledge; gotta love it (sarcasm).
*Her current streak is now just 4. But beats my zero, A-Gone pending

FYI: Regarding that 5th place pick for finelin33 in Top2500. He’s another gottaweartheshades. Picks DL players 6-7x a week. If you go back and check his picks, you’ll see that.
Ya I thought that when I saw Gimenez 2 days in a row.
The same thing is going to happen to him as well. He’s going to pick somebody not on the DL or in the minors and they day they pick them they won’t get a hit. I wonder how they are even capable of picking people on the DL or minors this far ahead since they are taken off the site as soon as they are placed on the DL or go to the minors.
It’s simple really. Monitor rotoworld & watch for information about players being sent back to minors or going on DL. For example, someone sent down for Jeter’s return (who? don’t care). Once you see that, you load up the next 9 days with that player. There’s a few of these notices per week; just need to keep up with them. And believe it or not, sometimes the picks of the day will give you a DL player; but that’s rare & a one-day pick only, usually.
RE: Gimenez placed on the DL. 29 June. So, I’m sure that he’s on their pick list for another 4-5 days. And I’m also sure that another DL/AAA player, by now, has been loaded up past that time frame
21 NO selection, that is an even worse way to lose then being pinched.
Adrian is good to go for today. Came through in the 5th with a double. I’m one to tomorrow.
And with Pedroia’s 7th inning single, The top 3 picks move on today. Far cry better than yesterday. Braun out of line up again for MIL.
With Bourn not identifying with a hit (get the pun?), one 30-gamer is down, one moves on & one pending with Kemp later tonite.
I’m back on board with McCutchen getting a 3rd inning double, that beats A-Rod’s 0 inning hit yesterday.
I’m also back on the board as well with Adrian’s hit earlier. GL tomorrow.
