Beat the Streak Report: Weekend, July 8-10
Streakers, there is an oasis on the horizon.
After three-plus months of nonstop picking, next week brings the three-day respite of the All-Star break. That’s right: Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday have no scheduled regular season Major League Baseball games.
Once you lock in your Sunday pick, feel free to power down your computer — or iPhone — for the next 72 hours. It may be scary, but you could even think about venturing outdoors. Come Thursday morning, your Streak will still be sitting right where you left it. Which is probably at zero games. Ohburrrrrn.
Anyway, there’s still plenty of work to be done before the break actually hits. Do it big this weekend, and those three long days next week will seem a whole lot less empty. Catch y’all on Thursday.

Leaderboard Time
Current leader jero07 heads into the weekend sitting purdy at 35 games, five short of season leader Jonathan Roy. Roy will presumable spend the All-Star break casting spells and mumbling hexes. If he’s successful, Gold Glove second placeman hankwoods — currently at 32 games — would be next in line.
Top MLB streakers
Ryan Braun: 22 games
Pablo Sandoval: 18 games
Howard Kendrick: 16 games
Robinson Cano: 11 games
Sad day to be a Rangers fan. I can’t even imagine how bad Josh must feel for tossing the ball up to that fan. Thoughts and prayers go out to the family and hopefully the little boy isn’t completely traumatized for the rest of his life.
Horrible incident. Wonder how long before fields will have netting for entire park or something similar to prevent these from reoccurring? Raising the rails not an option since it means removing rows of seating ’cause spectator viewing blocked otherwise; plexiglass shields instead maybe, who knows?
My condolences go out to the Stone family and friends. If memory serves me right someone fell in that ballpark last season, something should have been done to prevent this tragedy and something must be done to prevent another tragedy like this at Rangers Ballpark in Arlington. I also remember hearing about tragedies happening at the old Shea Stadium, Turner Field and Coors Field. Shea Stadium is gone but RBIA, TF, CF and perhaps other ballparks need more protection like nets or bigger railings to prevent falls like this.
Yankee game ppd. It’s raining like a mofo in the Bronx.
1st & 2nd place leaders may go down tonite. They picked same as my wife & I both, of which, are running on low luck lately 😉
Baltimore Britton couldn’t get out of 1st inning. 10 batters, 2 outs, 6 hits, 2 BB, 7 runs. Wished I picked that game!
Post will b up shortly. Had to run out while it was running.

Mark, probably his last AB & moves you on. A bit lucky tonite
I’ll take it. A hit’s a hit.
Unbelievable Hunter Pence is the only starting hitter on the Astros to not get a hit. After getting hits on 40 of 42 non pauses days this is now 2 straight O fers against the likes of Pavano and Vazquez. Thanks for nothing Konerko and Pence.

Jeter just blasted a bomb to left after a single in the first. Congrats on 3000!!!!
Good day for him, triple away from the cycle (3-3 after 5)
A great day for Jeter he went 5 for 5 picking up his 3,000th hit on a home run and getting a game winning hit in the 8th inning. Congratulations to Derek Jeter! 3,003 hits now! 🙂
Just another 997 to go 😉
No-Hitter Alert: SD thru 8 innings, LAD: 0 hits, 5 BB. A 0-0 score, if No-Hit is completed, it will be combined as game is up to the pen. Hopefully if no-hit bid lost, it won’t be in extra innings.
And there it goes. Uribe’s double in 9th ended the no-hit bid & Navarro’s single ended the game
Looks like a Saturday night massacre in the making.
Starting to get worried with markakis.
A-Gone may have just had last AB (0-3). Markakis 1 more AB. Those two go down, they take the current top 5 leaders with them. Hanley took out 1 of our own Top2500 members
No offense Mark, but crud. Wanted Markakis to drop tonight
Yahoo says infield single to short. Those always scare me that it’ll get changed.
I buddy of mine picked Markakis. I picked A-Gonz. You see who won that battle. 😦

My original pick Michael Young just got a hit. Figures.

Rickie Weeks 2nd most picked. Wonder if that had something to do with the pick of the day, which he was one. However, that pick of the day was based off his history vs. Volquez who was sent to AAA. Dontrelle will pitch today instead and was announced a couple days ago. BTS punishment a possibility.
That reminds me of Nick Swisher vs. Jeremy Guthrie when the Orioles switched to Jake Arrietia and I lost a 17 game streak.
Punishment won’t be any higher than 20%. Rickie, Hunter, Prince Albert, Adrian and Holliday already good. Drubal not in the lineup so ph is possible
As it is looking. today is a gimme for the most part already. Unless we get a sacrificial biggie (Asdrubal, Hanley and/or Miggy), may have single digit reset rate today. Either way, we can all take a breather for a couple days and see how well we do 2nd half for those that will play it.
The 3 days of the season in which a no selection won’t reset anyone. :B
Those that like to buffer picks with DL players, load up on A-Rod
My Home Run Derby entry is the following:
Round 1: Jose Bautista, Prince Fielder, Adrian Gonzalez, David Ortiz, Matt Holliday, Matt Kemp, Robinson Cano, Rickie Weeks
Round 2: Prince Fielder, Jose Bautista, Adrian Gonzalez, David Ortiz
Round 3: Jose Bautista, Prince Fielder
Tiebreakers: 66, 128
