Yesterday’s results

Something unusual appeared to be in the works last week, as several contestants rose through the BTS standings together and took over first place as a group. However, a tidal wave of bad luck washed over the pack in the last couple of days, as all seven fans who entered Friday’s action tied for first place at 30 games were unable to make it through the weekend with their streaks intact.

The result was a much more normal grouping of three at the top of the standings. famillehlg, justinleslie and wildtanners extended their BTS-leading streaks to 30 games with their respective picks of Aaron Rowand (2-for-4), Ichiro Suzuki (2-for-4) and Michael Young. OldmanOil and gregnewprague are just behind them, at 29 games, following their picks of Young and Suzuki.

Yesterday’s results

Houston’s Miguel Tejada was one of the hottest hitters in baseball heading into yesterday’s action, but he was cooled off by three Colorado pitchers. As such, his 0-for-5 performance not only snapped a personal 17-game hitting streak, it ended the runs of the Top 2 BTS contestants. waw_3card and ace21dlr placed their faith in the veteran shortstop, resulting in the finish of their respective streaks of 31 and 30 games.

And so, with a nod to the upcoming Belmont Stakes, a pack of seven contestants are rounding the corner and heading into the weekend in a tie for first at 30 games. We’ll see who can keep surging, and who will fade down the stretch.

It was business as usual yesterday for BTS leader waw_3card, who extended his Major League-leading streak to 31 games thanks to — who else? — Ichiro Suzuki, who singled in three at-bats to extend his streak to 27 games.

Also thanks to Ichiro, ace21dlr remains one game behind waw_3card with a 29-game streak.

All in all, 21 of the Top 25 users advanced by picking Ichiro, but they’ll all have to find someone else to keep their dreams of attaining the $1 million-plus top prize alive, as the Mariners are off today — stay tuned!

The new BTS front-runners are doing their best to match the standards set by Choteria (36 games) and adnaz (34 games) last month. Current leader waw_3card pushed his streak to 29 games thanks to a 2-for-3 night from hot-hitting Derek Jeter. ace21dlr and dlmead8 stayed close behind, at 28 games, with their respective picks of Ichiro Suzuki (1-for-4) and Hanley Ramirez (3-for-5). And somehow, all 14 contestants who entered the day tied for fourth place kept their streaks alive, and remain in the hunt at 27 games.

For a while, it seemed that BTS leaders Choteria and adnaz could do no wrong with their picks, but as Kansas once sang, “Nothing lasts forever but the earth and sky.” Choteria and adnaz both saw their lengthy runs come to an end this past weekend, their respective streaks of 36 and 34 games standing as the top BTS marks of the 2009 season.

And so, we head into a brand new month with a new wave of contestants at the front of the pack. waw_3card leads the way with a 28-game streak, ace21dlr and dlmead8 are tied for second at 27 games and 14 more are crammed into the fourth spot at 26 games.

Yesterday’s results

We’re up to 35 games now for Choteria, who got a 1-for-4 performance from Chipper Jones to remain at the top of the BTS pack. Sure enough, adnaz remained right on the leader’s tail, getting an identical 1-for-4 effort from Evan Longoria to push his own impressive streak to 34 games.

The subsequent placeholders in the standings couldn’t keep pace, as Miguel Cabrera, Jacoby Ellsbury and Joe Mauer went hitless to end three streaks of at least 28 games. That left room for abetql, cdneaves and megz2312002 to slide into the Top 5 with a full slate of weekend games on tap.

Choteria continued to chug along at the front of the pack, riding a 1-for-5 performance from Carl Crawford to push his BTS streak to a season-high 34 games. Still, he was unable to get any breathing room in the standings, as adnaz received two hits from Aaron Hill to stay one rung behind, at 33 games.

The rest of the Top 5 contestants also held steady in the rankings. stubs_22 received a three-hit effort from Ichiro Suzuki to push his streak to 29 games, while No Nickname and brett_chance pushed their streaks to 28 games by tabbing Crawford and Justin Morneau (1-for-5), respectively.

The BTS season-high streak for Choteria is up to 32 games, thanks to the selection of Washington third baseman Ryan Zimmerman (1-for-4). However, adnaz stayed right on the leader’s tail, pushing his own streak to 30 games by getting just enough from Houston shortstop Miguel Tejada (1-for-5).

Third-place contestant stubs_22 didn’t have to wait for his player to eke out a lone hit, as he quickly extended his streak to 27 games when Mariners outfielder Ichiro Suzuki rapped the first of his four base knocks. No Nickname and brett_chance rounded out the Top 5, at 26 games, with their respective picks of Tampa Bay’s Carl Crawford (1-for-4) and Boston’s Dustin Pedroia (3-for-5).
