Yesterday’s results

Yesterday’s Beat the Streak leader, dalmeetz048, saw his 34-game streak come to an end after Lance Berkman went hitless in five trips to the dish in Pittsburgh. Berkman’s plate patience proved to be deadly for dalmeetz048, as the hulking first baseman drew four walks in the Astros’ loss to the Pirates.

jeterbts.jpgWith dalmeetz048 forced to regroup, new leader mday1018 claimed the top spot on the strength of a 2-for-4 effort from Derek Jeter. mday1018’s 33-game streak gives him a slim lead over second-place competitor slumley, who extended his streak to 32 games after Matt Holliday singled against CC Sabathia in the southpaw’s National League debut.

Top 5 newcomer hej2duk331 put himself one game away from the 30-game milestone with some help from the sizzling Ian Kinsler. The surging second baseman extended his own hitting streak to 20 games after doubling against Angels lefty Joe Saunders in Texas.

Yesterday’s Top 5 most selected players

1. Dustin Pedroia (BOS): 6.1%, 2-for-4
2. Derrek Lee (CHC): 5.4%, 0-for-2
3. Lance Berkman (HOU): 4.2%, 0-for-1
4. Chase Utley (PHI): 4.1%, 1-for-4
5. Ian Kinsler (TEX): 3.4%, 1-for-4

Looks like us Pedroia people are going to have to start over, maybe one more at bat! Pray for extra innings

  2. jeterford@yahoo.com

EASYEARIC, WHY DID YOU BREAK FROM YOUR DETROIT ONLY? I THOUGHT YOU WOULD GO WITH GUILLEN TODAY. WELL, IT LOOKS LIKE AT LEAST ONE MORE AT BAT FOR PEDROIA AND MAYBE ONE MORE IF TWINS FORCE 9TH INNING FOR BOSTON.

  3. jeterford@yahoo.com

I WENT WITH SUZUKI TODAY. I JUST HOPE YESTERDAY IS NOT A START OF SLUMP FOR SUZUKI. HE HAS DONE IT IN THE PAST WHERE HE DOES NOT HIT FOR DAYS.

  4. rip2thecompetition

I looked up Suzuki’s stats and if I remember so far this season only once he has not had a hit in back-to-back games.

  5. jeterford@yahoo.com

WHAT A LUCK. INCOMPETENT PITCHING OF TWINS LET 8 PEOPLE WHO PICKED PEDROIA MOVE ON TOMORROW. PEDROIA REALLY WAS NOT A GOOD PICK TODAY TOO. HE WAS DUE FOR 0-FOR TO BEGIN WITH AND HE HAS NOT BEEN HITTING AS WELL LAST 2 DAYS.

  6. rip2thecompetition

Well Pedroia just saved my *** and a bunch of others from the leaderboard. 23 game streak for me now. Whew!

  7. slikkrikk8@aol.com

PUH-DROY-UH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! My streak is only at 7, but that just made my day. I’ll take 1-5 every day. I just wish it didn’t come down to his last AB. Phew!

  8. jeterford@yahoo.com

DARN IT. PEDROIA WAS SUPPOSED TO PROVIDE THE DEEP CLEANSING NEEDED ON THE TOP 25 BOARD TODAY. ITS GETTING VERY CROWED UP THERE NOW. BETTER LUCK TOMORROW.

  9. eazyeric

Wow that was close! I don’t know I thought long and hard about Guillen, but I changed my mind at the last minute, I guess I got anxious and didn’t want to wait till tonight to find out the results. From now on I’m sticking with my Tigers, just wish Magglio would get back I’m running low on hitters.

  10. jeterford@yahoo.com

IT SEEMS LIKE WE WILL HAVE ANOTHER SPOOKY93-LIKE EVENT COMING SOON. LOTS OF PEOPLE MOVING UP. SOMEONE HAS TO GO FAR FROM THE BUNCH THAT ARE IN TOP 25 NOW.

IT HAS BEEN EZ PICKIN FOR THE LAST WK OR SO FOR MANY BECAUSE OF KINSLER AND PEDROIA.

  11. jeterford@yahoo.com

THANKS. i HOPE SO. I AM ONLY AT 7 SO AND ITS AT THIS PT WHERE I USUALLY DIE.

I THINK THE COMPANY WHO SOLD THE INSURANCE TO MLB FOR THE PRIZE MUST BE CRINGING RIGHT NOW AT THE THOUGHT OF PEDROIA. THEY JUST GOT OVER SPOOKY’S RUN. NOW IT LOOKS THERE IS ENOUGH DEPTH IN TOP 13 TO MAKE ANOTHER GOOD RUN OVER 40.

  12. rip2thecompetition

Out of all the people on the leaderboard I bet most will fall out sooner or later, only a couple will advance and get towards 40 and the march to 57 … I’m not taking Kinsler or Pedroia any time in the next week up until the all-star break, their streaks are bound to end sooner or later … Did anybody see the guy last season that wrote all his picks down, what they went for the day, and in what at-bat they got their hit in? I’m doing that. In 23 days I’ve had to wait 5 times till a guy got a hit in his last at-bat. I hate those days!

  13. eazyeric

I think the worst thing is when you pick a guy and he doesn’t play that day, until the 8th or 9th when he pinch hits and goes 0 fer. That happened to me at the beginning of the season. Thanks Leyland

  14. rip2thecompetition

That has happened to me during my 23 game streak but I survived. I’ve only taken a player who wasn’t a “stud” maybe 3 times but the one day I did I took Jody Gerut from the Padres. Hairston started in CF but Gerut came in to pinch-hit in the 7th I believe? He didn’t get a hit but I got lucky and he came up again in the 9th and got me a hit.

  15. rip2thecompetition

Oh yeah, pinch-hit but went into the field after. If he didn’t go back into the field I woulda been done.

  16. eazyeric

Yeah, Leyland did it with Polanco I had a 6 game hit streak, needless to say I’ve started over about 20 times it seems.

  17. eazyeric

I do like what spooky93 said “pick a guy that is 1-2-3 he may get an extra at bat increasing his chances of getting a hit”.

  18. jeterford@yahoo.com

YEAH, I HAD THE SAME THOUGHT ABOUT M. CAB. HE HAS TO HIT MUCH BETTER FOR THE REST OF THE SEASON UNLESS THIS IS HIS OFF YR.

IT SEEMS LIKE PEDROIA AND KINSLER IS THE SUZUKI AND H. RAM OF LAST YR. ITS HARD FOR ME TO DIGEST THAT SO ITS NOT EASY TO PUT BETS ON THOSE TWO.

FROM A CURSORY READING OF PITCHERS FOR TOMORROW, IT WON’T BE EZ PIKIN’.

  19. rip2thecompetition

Was it a day game with Polanco? I think a manager tends to give their player a day off sometimes a night game after a day game if it’s been awhile since they’ve had a day off … Yeah I’ve always liked that philosophy. Actually, in my whole streak I’ve had a guy that batted 1, 2, or 3 every time but once.

  20. jeterford@yahoo.com

GOODNESS. PEDROIA GOT ANOTHER HIT. IT MUST BE SOUL CRUSHING FOR TWINS. TO PLAY SO WELL BUT TO BE TOLD YOU’RE NOT GOOD ENOUGH.

  21. rip2thecompetition

Jeter I agree about tomorrow. I don’t know who to pick but I think I got my picks covered for Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.

  22. jeterford@yahoo.com

OF COURSE, UNLESS YOU GOT A DANDY, DON’T EVER PICK GUYS WHO WON’T BAT UNTIL 2ND OR 3RD INNING. AND IT GETS WORST IF ITS FOR THE HOME TEAM WHO WON’T PLAY THE 8TH.

LAST YR, PRKID (46 STREAK) LOST ON EITHER POLANCO OR MAGG BECAUSE THEY WERE TAKEN OUT AFTER 2 AT BATS. WHAT A CRUSHING WAY TO END. I THINK THE GAME WAS A DEEP LOSS FOR THE TIGERS IN THE EARLY GOING.

LIFE HAS A WAY OF STICKING IT TO YOU WHEN YOU NEED IT THE MOST. IT’S VERY STRANGE. I MEAN EVEN WITH SPOOKY, ICHIRO GETTING HIT (NOT A BASE HIT) ON HIS LAST AT BAT.

YOU WILL NEED A LOT OF LUCK AND SKILL TO WIN THIS GAME.

  23. rip2thecompetition

Yup. I personally think it’s more luck than skill but skill is definitely involved.

  24. rip2thecompetition

Carlos Guillen is proving to me once again why this game is based on a lot of luck and why I don’t always count on a player with great numbers as an automatic pick. I’ve lost with Pujols hitting .500 against a pitcher and Guillen is on the verge of doing the same thing for some people.

  25. rip2thecompetition

Man, I’m getting impatient with everybodys picks from the leaderboard getting hits. I thought I’d be on the leaderboard by now at 23 but it keeps going up.

  26. jeterford@yahoo.com

MAN, IT SEEMS EVERYONE IS COMING THROUGH. HOPEFULLY, TOMORROW WILL BRING IN SOME WASHOUTS. I DON’T WANT TO GO THROUGH ANOTHER SPOOKY93 AGONY.

METSFAN, GETTING ON TOP 25 IS ONLY 1/3 OF THE BATTLE. DON’T WORRY ABOUT IT. IF YOU’RE GOING TO WIN THIS, YOU WILL GET THERE. I GET IMPATIENT TOO BUT I THINK AS IT HAS PROVEN FOR LAST 7 YRS, IT WILL BE RACE AGAINST THE GAME AND NOT OTHERS. I TELL MYSELF THAT EVERY TIME LEADERS MOVE ON. ALTHOUGH, IT WAS HARD TO BELIEVE THAT WEN SPOOKY93 KEPT SAILING ON AND ON.

  27. eazyeric

Guillen came through, I don’t see one person that lost today. Miguel Cabrera on fire. Polanco tomorrow boys. We shall see, little bit a skill, lot a luck. Anyone can go 0 for any given day. Good pick on Ichiro, got that hit right away no stress.

  28. rip2thecompetition

Yeah that’s true. If you’re gonna win that means you’ll get on the leaderboard at some point. Just gotta stay patient. I don’t know who I’m picking tomorrow. Surprisingly, being a Mets fan I haven’t took one Met yet. Maybe I will tomorrow with Zito on the mound…even though he has pitched better the Mets offense is clicking.
