Beat the Streak Report: Wednesday, May 12

Cuddyer480BTS.jpg

It was quite the uneventful Tuesday for our streakers, as five of our top seven selections (Miguel Cabrera, Ryan Howard, Chase Utley, Robinson Cano, Derek Jeter) each saw their games postponed due to rain, pushing the pause button on about 22 percent of streakers combined.

John Gartshore, a.k.a. “cruj,” a.k.a. our protagonist and fearless leader, tapped Ichiro to extend his streak to an impressive 35 games.

It looks like Gartshore, a native of Asbestos, Quebec, Canada, will be putting my Canadian aptitude to the test here, and frankly, I’m riveted.

So on that note, with a 35-game streak, Gartshore is officially 61.7 percent on his way to earning a lifetime supply of Tim Horton’s Timbits. I went to summer camp in Ontario for 10 years. Gartshore, you’ve been warned.

Time for Wednesday’s picks.

Oh, hello there …

  • Michael Cuddyer: .515 AVG (17-for-33) lifetime vs. White Sox starter John Danks
  • Adrian Beltre: .467 AVG (7-for-15) lifetime vs. Blue Jays starter Shaun Marcum
  • Joey Votto: .625 AVG (10-for-16) lifetime vs. Pirates starter Zach Duke
  • Scott Rolen: .438 AVG (7-for-16) lifetime vs. Duke
  • Franklin Gutierrez: .556 AVG (5-for-9) lifetime vs. Orioles starter Brad Bergesen
  • Conor Jackson: .462 AVG (6-for-13) lifetime vs. Dodgers starter Hiroki Kuroda

Feeling kinda spicy?

  • Ramon Hernandez: .571 AVG (4-for-7) lifetime vs. Duke. It’s always Candy Land when Duke is on the mound.
  • Craig Counsell: .400 AVG (10-for-25) since ’05 vs. Braves starter Derek Lowe. This just can’t be a good idea, right?

You’ll thank me later …

  • Dustin Pedroia: .125 AVG (2-for-16) lifetime vs. Marcum
  • Alfonso Soriano: .000 AVG (0-for-9) lifetime vs. Marlins starter Chris Volstad
  • Manny Ramirez: .100 AVG (1-for-10) lifetime vs. D-backs starter Edwin Jackson

Leaderboard time!

“jonnygoska” bit the dust thanks to an 0-fer from Jose Reyes (sorry bout that, Jonny). This leaves “Bosox19” in second place with a 24-game streak. Not too shabby.

Grew up in Asbestos, Quebec. Left there as a kid. Now live in Fort McMurray, Alberta. Just in case someone wants to challenge your Canadian geography!

Hey guys and girls, I’m hoping to keep it going with Ethier tonight and Cruj glad to see you doing so well.

  3. darwri

Definitely good luck Cruz.. but you have to think.. its still 21 games away! I’ve been playing for 7 years and had maybe a handful of 21 game streaks.. just have fun and dont overthink your picks… you still have a 0.0032 % chance to win and thats based on having a 75% chance of getting a hit that given day!

cruj – Welcome to the blog – A tip of my Cub to you on your streak. Please Post your daily pick with comment.
I’m, sticking with MCutchen of Pirates today as Homer Baily of Reds is hittable. In honor of Homer Bailey’s name, I’m also taking McCutchen in HR BTS and what the heck, for the first time ever I’m going with Pirates in Survivor. I’m a little scared of Ichirio who is batting .239 in day games. This follows a night game last night for him.
    Happy hunting to all today!

Morning gents. Cruj, nice to see another Alberta boy on the leader board. I was up there till 17, anyways best of luck to all. I’m trying to restart again, got rained out in both bts and survivor last night. Going R. Weeks (had Braun but he not playing till weekend looks like) and LAD.

You got to win both games in double header, correct?

Survivor: St Louis Cardinals over the Houston Astro’s.

    Beat The Streak: Albert Pujols

Hopefully Kyle Lohse can pitch a great game tonight.

  7. schenk015

im very surprised that 5 of the top 15 most selected players were in doubleheaders today and so far 2 of those players have gone hitless in the first game so those who picked jeter and rodriguez are already finished. i dont know what goes through the heads of the people who play this game

  8. spear716@yahoo.com

I have got Austin Jackson today, he got a hit in the first of a double header today, now I just got to wait for tonights game.

  9. rip2thecompetition

Anybody in a group? Anybody want to make a group? I was in one last year but 2 of the 3 guys apparently aren’t playing this year.

  10. 00liber

Rip2thecompitition, we have a public group set-up. Just search “bloggers” most of us that post on here daily are in it.

abk1087 – My streaks are all at zero!
McCutchen of Pirates had an O-fer – Strike One
McCutchen naturally did not HR – Strike Two
Pirates lost to Reds 5 – 0 – Strike Three – dragbunt is out!
I should be “riding the pine!”
But just as hope springs eternal each spring for Cub fans, I’ll be back tomorrow. Being a Cub fan you have to be able to roll with the punches.
My sage advice is stay away from whoever I pick for the next few days. lol

  13. josephcarlmoratto@yahoo.com

Look’s like my streaks going to end tonight.

Kyle Lohse just gave up 5 runs in the 4th, so now the Cardinals are losing 6 -1.

  14. schenk015

taking carlos gonzalez tomorrow. hes 4-4 vs lannan in his career and is hitting .378 against lefties so far this season and .330 overall

  15. btsplayer@yahoo.com

I guess everyone will be riding the Ichiro tomorrow. I am planning to find another hitter though. Millwood shut Suzuki down last time they met in Seattle. He also did the same thing I think once last year too. I just hope Cruj picks Ichiro for third day and get burned. Its about time. He had so many last at bat saviors come through for him.

What a luck for Philly pickers. I bet many of them still wouldn’t know how lucky they were because they will be advancing tomorrow. Some might be even befuddled that they moved up one spot.

  16. dragbunt104

Also, Ichirio batting .239 in day games and game time is 12:35 eastern.
    Michael Young TX is hot.
    Odd – Odds? darwi’s post
This is one for Professor Pete
For Example: Say the chance of picking a player to get is hit is 75% each day. Well each day is a brand new chance of getting a hit at 75%. What happened the previous day does not factor in to the new day. Professor Pete what is this theory called?
    hasta manana all!

  17. josephcarlmoratto@yahoo.com

Were can I find how many times a certain player has went 0 – whatever in a mlb year.

  18. schenk015

i dont want to disappoint you joseph but im closer to 57 and i dont intend on giving you that chance to get the $3million

  19. darwri

The odds of winning 3 million dollars is just under 1 in a million if your picking a player who will get a hit every 4/5 days in the season. The thing is, PICKING A PLAYER WHO WILL GET A HIT 80% OF THE TIME.. that alone is hard enough. This game does have better odds than playing the lottery though! My streak is up to 10 after Ichiro’s hit last night! I would totally go with Ichiro again today if i had a chance to hit a computer before 1230.. don’t think I will. Guess I will find out tonight at 9 who i have lol
