Beat the Streak Report: Thursday, June 10

It was Gravy Train Wednesday in Streakland, as each of the Top 10 most popular selections laced hits to extend the streaks of about 55 percent of the universe combined.

Robinson Cano was once again the master of this hit ceremony, going 3-for-4 against Chris Tillman and the Orioles bullpen to single-handedly push forward 16.8 percent of all streaks.

Who will our walking-on-sunshine Streakers be banking on for Thursday?

Dare I say I will be selecting Ichiro, Mr. Harbinger of Doom?

That’s right, I’m going with Ichiro for tonight, hear me out.

Despite his recent back-to-back 0-fers which obliterated streaks across the nation and destroyed friendships everywhere, he’s still batting a blistering .382 (13-for-34) on the month.

Furthermore, he’s flashed incredible bounce-back ability, responding to his previous two-game hitless streaks on the year by putting together streaks of six, three and ten.

Oh, and he’s a lifetime .462 hitter against opposing pitcher Tommy Hunter.

Who’s with me?

Viva la Ichiro!

Time for Thursday’s picks

? Ichiro Suzuki: .462 AVG (6-for-13) lifetime vs. Rangers starter Tommy Hunter

? Kosuke Fukudome: .500 AVG (12-for-22) lifetime vs. Brewers starter Dave Bush

? Vladimir Guerrero: .500 AVG (5-for-10) lifetime vs. Mariners starter Ryan Rowland-Smith

? Carlos Guillen: .455 AVG (5-for-11) lifetime vs. White Sox starter John Danks

? Ryan Theriot: .355 AVG (11-for-31) lifetime vs. Brewers starter Dave Bush

? Evan Longoria: .571 AVG (4-for-7) lifetime vs. Blue Jays starter Brett Cecil

Feeling kinda spicy?

? Ryan Sweeney: .533 AVG (8-for-15) lifetime vs. Angels starter Ervin Santana. I’m not messing with Santana. Not now.

You’ll thank me later …

? Billy Butler: .080 AVG (2-for-25) lifetime vs. Twins starter Scott Baker

? Brandon Phillips: .100 AVG (1-for-10) lifetime vs. Giants starter Todd Wellemeyer

? Bobby Abreu: .100 AVG (1-for-10) lifetime vs. Athletics starter Trevor Cahill

Leaderboard time!

Robinson Cano and Joe Mauer each laced hits last night, which means our the following three BTSers remain atop our leaderboard with 28-game streaks:

Only 29 more to go. Yeah, uh, good luck with that …

Top MLB streakers

? Brandon Phillips: 12 games

? Jeff Francoeur: 11 games

? Jeff Mathis: 10 games (DL)

? Kevin Kouzmanoff: 10 games

? Sean Rodriguez: 10 games

? Carlos Lee: 10 games

I have Swisher in BTS as it was Guthrie that was pitching but they changed the starter of the O’s to Arrieta. I still have the Yanks in Survivor and Cano in HR BTS as wind is blowing out to right field. I will leave Swisher as he may get a hit tonight.

  2. vinny1979

This is going to be my last post for now since I’m heading to work. I work until 11:30 PM but will be on here on my break. I have Swisher in BTS as he hits the O’s no matter who is pitching. Cano in HR BTS as wind is blowing out to right field and he is due and I changed from the Yanks to the Red Sox in Survivor as Lester hasn’t lost in 2 months so I like those odds against the Indians.

I went with Vladimir Guerrero on the Rangers since he is .435 against lefties, has been a very consistent .330 all year with no hot/cold streaks, is home (that seems to matter a lot to most of the Rangers’ lineup,) and the Rangers have bashing the Mariners out every game.

  5. nardberg

Very interesting – the three leaders all chose Guerrero.

The top 10 players only chose 4 different hitters – 5 took Guerrero; 2 took Cano; 2 took Ichie and 1 took Prado.

Hmmm, early game get some streakers today?
“rich” on page 2 with streak of 22 reset due to “No Selection”.
Hey anyone else having a streak greater than 17 and don’t want it any longer, just write to MLB and ask them to transfer your streak to me. I’ll take it gladly and if I win $3MIL, I’ll even pay you a small consultation fee.

  7. tenten25

Yeah! After my 7 game streak got tanked with Ryan Raburn’s 0-fer last night, I went with Carlos Guillen and got rewarded! Gracias Carlitos! Streak restarted!

Today’s Top Picks of the current Top2500. ** Early game resets & “No Selections” not included. BTS updated before data was gathered.
    Player, Times Picked, Percentage
    Ichiro Suzuki, 409, 16.36%
    Vladimir Guerrero, 396, 15.84
    Robinson Cano, 232, 9.28
    Nick Swisher, 158, 6.32
    Magglio Ordonez, 94, 3.76
    Evan Longoria, 88, 3.52
    Derek Jeter, 84, 3.36
    Kevin Youkilis, 72, 2.88
    Martin Prado, 67, 2.68
    Ryan Zimmerman, 50, 2
    Kosuke Fukudome, 49, 1.96
    Joey Votto, 45, 1.8
    Justin Morneau, 42, 1.68
    Joe Mauer, 42, 1.68
    Michael Young, 37, 1.48
Highest “No Selection”: Page 2 with a streak of 22 now reset to zero.

  9. champion_88

From that list, the afternoon results:

    Magglio Ordonez: 3.76% remain steady
    Martin Prado: 2.68% extend
    Kosuke Fukudome: 1.96% snapped
    Joey Votto: 1.80% extend

Not sure why you would use Fukudome?

He seems to be hitting worse than when we used to use them in April and Marlon Byrd was a much hotter, better choice if you wanted a Cub and he hits 3rd in the lineup.

  10. dragbunt104

champion_88 – Byrd was a much better choice. Cub fans would remember that Fukadome hits well when Cubs play in Milwaukee including a HR earlier this year – call it inside info that did not pan out.
Took Cano today and he has a hit. As a Cub fan, I did not have the nerve to pick Byrd. Cubs v. ChiSox the next 3 days in interleague play anything can happen – do not pick either team in Survivor. I’ll give a wind report tomorrow as games are at Wrigley Field and could be HR friendly.
    NYY is Survivor
    Guerrero in HR BTS
    Good Luck to all……………..

I lucked into a 2 game streak in HR BTS – Any advice on who to take on Friday would be appreciated. (I had Derrick Lee of Cubs on Thursday and he did not play so my streak remained at two. Thanks Lou Piniella for not letting him pinch hit.)

  12. dragbunt104

Friday – Corey Hart looks good in HR BTS. Wind conditions at Wrigley Field could change this thought as Peavy of ChiSox gives up alot of HR’s and Wells of Cubs is also vulnerable. Byrd of Cubs is hot and looks good in BTS on Friday.

  13. lavolpe

More dark days for the majority…
BOS-CLE: one last chance for BOS down by 1 after 8. If they fail to win, over 50% of the Survivor field gets reset with NYY, PHI, COL & LAA already lost.
If Ichiro goes down tonight 33%+ of current Top2500 will have been reset tonight too; hovering at 17% right now.

  14. yanksgiantsdevils33

I have had bad luck the last two days. Yesterday I lost a 7 game survivor streak from the Rockies because I swiched from the Nats (winner) to the Rangers (winner), to the Mets (postponed) to the Rockies. I landed on the 1 reset of the 4. Then I had switched todays pick yesterday from A-Rod to Swisher picked for today based off his numbers off of Guthrie and A-Rods is like 1 for 7 at bats off him. Around 12:15 I checked the Yankees Orioles preview and found the shock of Jake Arrieta (1st ever career start) starting for the Orioles instead and wanted to get off the Yankee picks and could not get to a computer, my phone does not access the fantasy section and today was a 12:30 lock day. The biggest fear came true, Swisher was 0 for 3 (0 for 4 including a sac fly) with a walk and my 17 game BTS is over. The entire Yankees got 4 hits all game (Jeter, Teixera, Cano, Granderson).

  15. lavolpe

Wild 9th in CLE, up by 1. Top 9th: Kerry Wood comes on & gets 2 quick outs then hits J.D. Drew. Ok, 1 more out & game over. In comes Beltre & goes YARD. BOS up one & CLE bats in bottom of 9th, but whoa, what’s this: walk, double, walk & no outs; no pitcher change. Can CLE tie it or take the lead? Strike out, foul pop out & looking like BOS might scrape by, but Russell Branyan comes thru with a 2-run single & over 50% of Survivor is reset tonight; however, 4 of the top 5 avoided the slaughter and moved on. For most of us: time to restart our streaks!

  16. lavolpe

Will the CHC-CHW series be played? Doubleheader likely? Lots of rain everywhere, may want to make your picks indoors or out west, if the weather forecasts hold true.

I’m officially routing for “jacob” to win this thing — He had a 23 game hitting streak (currently in 19th place) and went with Adam Dunn last night to extend his streak to 24 games…Picking Adam Dunn with a 23 game streak that takes such enormous stones, dude should get his own Dos Equis commercial! I hear he’s taking Jay Bruce today

  18. dragbunt104

Weather in Chicago has turned Sunny.
Wind blowing out toward left field. HR kind of day.
    Time to say go Cubs!
    BTS = Byrd
    HR BTS = Bryd
    Survivor = Rocks
Could be some scoring with wind blowing out at Wrigley and Wells and Peavy pitching as both have struggled lately.
Peavy can be tough on righty batters but Byrd has be super hot.
