Beat the Streak Report: Tuesday, May 17

You Streakers like to live dangerously.

Last night’s top pick, taking home 11.1 percent of the popular vote, was a player who came into the evening batting .208. He had six hits in his last 30 at-bats and just a pair of multihit efforts in his previous 11 games. The guy is sixth on his own team in the base knocks department and regularly sets up shop out of the eight-hole.

Of course, career .296 hitter Carl Crawford came through — just barely — with a 1-for-5 against Chris Tillman and the Orioles.

Does that mean you all made the “right” decision by rolling with the scuffling speedster? Well, yeah, it does. But there’s a murky border between Continued Streakistan and the Republic of Square One, and crossing the line has never been easier. Seriously, the customs agents will wave you through for a bag of Nacho Cheesier Doritos and a couple Fruit by the Foots. (The Republic of Square One is like 15 years behind the US in terms of snacks. Show up with a bag of Spicy Bold Chex Mix and you will be a god among men.)

There are no extra BTS points for degree of difficulty, gamers. If you really need  to pick a Red Sox player, we recommend the guy with a sketchy goatee and a .349 average this month.

Leaderboard time!

Buddycrise sits right on the precipice. Thanks to Martin Prado, he became the 10th Streaker of the season to reach 27 games. However, only three of the previous nine continued on to 28 games — the all-important one-game-short-of-over-halfway-to-$5.6-million milestone. Show us what you’ve got, Buddy Crise. Or Bud C.Rise. Or Bud Dycrise.

Top MLB streakers

Marlon Byrd: 16 games

Jhonny Peralta: 11 games

Ramon Hernandez:  10 games

Carlos Lee:  10 games

PIT/WSH game PPD. Change picks, if needed, to play today

Also FYI. Brian McCann not starting today.

I was seriously looking at one of your boys today: M.Young
I don’t normally pay much attention to previous 5-year ABs, but in this case, 2 of 13 where of the remaining 11 ABs, 6 were strikeouts — that was the stat that turned me away. Guess I’m sticking with Vlad (rain or not) as I’m not willing to move to a 3rd string pick. GL with Prado.

I like Andrus as well ( 4-5 vs Danks) but Prado has been hot this last week, so im going to take my chances. GL to you too.

Anyone who picked McCann just got lucky as he just hit a PH HR.

BTW, who else has a HR BTS pick? I went with Cano.

Make that 2 homers

I got Berkman for HR.

I went with Albert Pujols, only because I only remembered to make a pick for that contest about 5 minutes away from lock and I wanted to make sure I got someone in.

I get the feeling that more games will be PPD. Lots of rain today from the Carolinas to New England, and from the Ohio Valley to the Atlantic. Even the California games could be dealing at least with showers. Only the indoor games (TB/AZ), plus Denver/KC/Chicago/St. Louis appear to be completely in the clear.

RotoWorld has reported that the Marlins/Mets game has been rained out.

I find it very impressive that they found out before did!

Yesterday’s Top2500 Reset rate was 20.44% with Placido Polanco reseting the most.
There was also 4.6% PPD due to players not playing. These streakers do not reset, but did not increase either.

Mark, in future lists, can you also post the No Selections count/percent even if it doesn’t contain a high number? Many of us are curious how many ppl didn’t pick, no matter what the number.

For sure. It was the next one down the list, 53X

53? That equates to 2 full pages on the standings. Still gotta wonder what goes thru someone’s mind when after a week or more of successful picks, they can’t simply make a pick 1-2 days out to prevent getting reset due to no pick.

I will say that I can somewhat understand why.

I always avoid making a pick 1-2 days out, because then if the placeholder pick comes through and my new pick doesn’t, it opens up the opportunity to 2nd guess myself.

But there was only 1 day I think ever that I just totally forgot about picks and lost a 9-game winning streak because of it.

I was horrified upon realizing that, but the blow was softened considerably since I had never thought about my picks that whole day and the lock time had passed over 3 hours prior.

I’m sure there are reason and not many very good. But double digit streaks don’t usually come back to back to back often. Once I got there, I would rather make a pick (DL or otherwise) 1-2 days out vs not picking at all. If time allowed me to change then great; otherwise if 3 hours elapsed after locks, at least I had a chance vs. no chance.

Eh, I agree with your reasoning when getting to double-digits, but that was the only time that ever happened in years of picks.

I think picks are hard-wired into my day now, like breathing and taking your vitamins.

Prado just singled.

I went with Victor Martinez.

I had actually considered Brad Hawpe, but he was too much of an unknown for me and Hudson had been fantastic last year.

Ichiro was also a consideration, but the lefty/lefty pairing and Liriano’s wildness were too much uncertainty for me.

Victor’s split against righties worries me though.

A very uncertain day to say the least!

Well I had Carlos Lee since he was hitting Lowe well. He went 0 for 4 and than was taken out of the game so I’m back to 0. I have Tulo in HR BTS and he hit a bomb so I’m at 1 in that.

Someone on the 1st page also had Lee. McCann’s 2nd homer to end that game took down another 1st page leader who had Alex Gonzalez, the next batter after McCann.

BAL/BOS is PPD. Tarp on the field at DET & CIN

They’ve been playing in CIN without interruption through three innings. It is drizzling though.

out of curiousity, did the Tigers came ever get underway?

No. It was PPD.

It’s a nice feeling when all 3 guys that were given thought for today came through. Prado continued his tear, Andrus got one off Danks and Berkman hasn’t homered but he did hit. Keith a pause is always better than a reset.

Any idea if any of these rainouts are going to double up tomorrow?

No. Teams are moving to other cities. Double headers will have to be scheduled down the road.

No, they won’t be, because every team is playing a pair of 2-game series this week, so there will be a new matchup for every team tomorrow.

As for the pause. Doesn’t bother me. If I was at 1 or 2, I’d make a haste pick. But first time this season looking at double digits and better slow/safe then hasty/reset. I’ve more or less decided to select my best pick and play that only. If for some reason I find he is benched, then I’ll struggle for another to prevent the pinch hit (most likely a backup AL catcher). Otherwise, no rush decisions.

I see your boy Young got a hit too; but ChiSox beat ’em.
And regarding the pause, there will be several that didn’t that will start tomorrow at zero.

My logic worked for me with M.Young though. Earlier I mentioned I didn’t feel comfortable due to his high strikeouts against Danks. Though Young got a hit, it was in the 8th off a reliever. I consider any pick of mine that doesn’t get a hit off the starter as a failed pick and pure luck if the hit comes off a reliever. On my current streak (17 hits in 9 games), all 1st hits were off the starters. Whatever I’m doing, am doing right so far.

Well Hawpe is 0 for 2 so far.

Ichiro is 0 for 1 so far.

So my pause pick looks pretty good so far!

*sigh*…Hawpe just doubled in the 6th, so I could have been at 9 today, if I had not been scared off by the “familiarity” label.

Don’t sweat it. I was looking at M.Young, Damon & Holliday. 2 of the 3 got hits, 1 didn’t. Glad I didn’t force myself, might have picked the wrong one. Besides you’ll be at either 9 or 0 tomorrow anyway; what’s one more day 😉

@Champ88. If you want to load up a DL player for this weekend, look at Derek Lee ASAP. Per rotoworld, will be placed on DL today. This weekend are interleague games and a DL pick will be useful if you aren’t comfortable with a particular day.

Cano better better NOT go O fer!
