Beat the Streak Report: Monday, June 6

The dawn of a new week brings with it the dawn of a new era in Streakland.

In case you missed the town crier bellowing the news through the streets, Ichiro Suzukis 2-for-5 last night pushed jsmnapoli to 31 games and solo status the season’s big Streaker on campus.

Buddycrise and jngmz733 had quite the impressive run at 30, but that figure was never likely to hold up for the duration of a six-month campaign. Guys, you have until noon to vacate the Streakland executive residence. One minute longer and we’ll start auctioning off your stuff. Oh, except for the 30 Games commemorative coffee mugs — we could use a few extras here at BTS Headquarters.

Anyway, last year brought five streaks of at least 38 games and a pair at 43. Jsmnapoli, your move.

Leaderboard time!

Our new (fearless?) leader is 54 percent of the way to a life-changing $5.6 million windfall, but a few others are already breathing down their neck. Leahydpt sits three games back at 28 and four others have already crossed the quarter-century threshold. You wanted the big chair, Napoli? Good luck holding it.

Just hit a 3 run tater! And for a split second I thought about tempting fate. Now I wish I had!

    • LaVolpe

Only needs 2 extra hitters to come to the plate. The Cubs pen hasn’t been able to do much this past week. We shall see.

      • LaVolpe

Rest my case. Single, HBP, BB & barring a triple play, Phillips will get one more AB. Odds of being pitched around with Cubs trailing by 5 or more are remote. He’ll probably be facing a so-so pitcher too since Cubs burned their pen in the STL series. Bottom line, Phillips may have to get himself out or an accidental walk to reset a ton of streakers.

  3. LaVolpe

Gotta like that Toronto line score thru 5 innings: being no hit, but run scored; error obviously.

  4. LaVolpe

Well, our current leader got to 31 but will be trying for 1 tomorrow. New leader is 1 shy of 30.

    • LaVolpe

Ummm, maybe premature? DET pitching now having problems getting people out. M.Young only needs 2 extra hitters to reach base for another AB unless pulled.
