Beat the Streak Report: Weekend, June 10-12

Streakers: BIG NEWS

Remember when @MLB challenged Stephen Colbert to a little pick-off a few weeks back? Well it’s about to get real.

Yesterday, the official Twitter of Major League Baseball reminded Mr. Colbert of the outstanding offer:

“Is @StephenAtHome up to the Beat the Streak challenge? Does he like fun? If he wins, the keys to @MLB are his for 24 hours #BTS challenge.”

And lo and behold, he has accepted the challenge. The rules are simple: Three days, three Beat the Streak selections. If Colbert can post a longer streak than @MLB, he gets the keys to the Twitter for 24 hours. The first tiebreaker will be total number of days with a hit, followed by total hits by all picks, and then combined batting average of all picks.

What would @StephenAtHome do with a direct line to 1.2 million baseball fans? We’re guessing a lot of anti-bear propaganda.

For those new to Beat the Streak, get in on the Challenge and sign up here.

I cannot be totally sure, but I think the 1.2 million fans is the number of people that follow @MLB on Twitter.

So that would not be the total number of people playing Beat the Streak then.

I really wish someone would tell us!

Appears after that 47% reset rate last night, BTS gods are taking pity. Looking to be a relatively low reset rate today.

Thank you sir. Am helping my neighbour build the deck so I won’t be anywhere near computer.
I’m going with A-gone, early game, no weather issues.

I found an article from 2005 that mentions that 500,000 people had played as of the end of the 2004 season.

One has to think the number has gone up significantly by now.

And yet again, my bad. Ethier got a hit yesterday. The pick that reset the most yesterday was actually the 52 No Picks. Alex Gordon made it close to taking this honor, but hit in last AB.

  7. LaVolpe

Polanco’s PH 0-fer hurt a bunch today. Otherwise, overall this weekend was very kind to most of the streakers, but not all. Looking at a reset rate of about 20%-ish today.
