Beat the Streak Report: Weekend, August 26-28

Take a good look now, Joe Turner — this could be your final BTS Report in sole possession of first place on the season leaderboard.

Phils4ever75 advanced to 38 games with Skip Schumaker (!!!) last night, meaning that they could tie Turner atop the season standings by the end of Sunday’s action. Even if Phils falls, letsgonets44 is lurking a game back at 37.

Enjoy the weekend, Streakers — we just might be meeting a few more of you come Monday.

if you have not done so, remember all the supposed DH’s on Saturday that might or might not be played. I just found out that the braves-mets games on Sat and Sun are cancelled, make up 9-8 DH….

i gotta ask this,,,,, since the braves and mets play in atlanta in sept. why not switch the home dates. same thing goes with marlins-phillies.

are the people who make these decisions in the main MLB office that stupid to not see how easy this could be done??? or am i just silly in thinking they would do the right thing

East Coast people — Good luck this weekend. its going to be crazy, i hope everyone stays safe.. coming from texas and having going through hurricanes before. if your told to leave, then LEAVE. life is too precious…..

    • champion_88

Well the teams would lose the home field advantage then, which I am sure they are not going to want to give up.

Also, this storm is being way overhyped.

It will not even be a hurricane by the time it gets to NYC.

All it is is a glorified rainstrom to give people something to blab about, after they were done talking about the earthquake.

Anyone who evacuates for a tropical storm is a pansy.

      • Backrubs

no one would lose home field because you would be switching the series around,
MLB along with the rest of the country knew it was going to come up the east coast on Wednesday, yet they brought FLA to Phil, and ATL to NY for what amounted to a one game series. if they would have put the series in Fla and Atl, they would have played all three

  2. LaVolpe

Oh-Oh Alert: Leader’s pick (Zimmerman) 0-4 after 7 in 1-run game. Needs help to get another AB. The 2nd/3rd place’s pick (Cano) singled in 7th

  3. champion_88

Today was a tough day for me, as I agonized between J.J. Hardy and Shane Victorino and thankfully I made the right choice in J.J. Hardy who went a smashing 1 for 5, but good enough to push me to 6 games.

The leader going down today also buys me another day of comfort.

  4. yanksgiantsdevils33

I took Jonathan Papelbon today on FR BTS because the Athletics/Red Sox is the only doubleheader out of the 3 that will completely take place. The Yankees/Orioles is completely cancelled because of Irene and the Marlins/Phillies will only play the 1st game.

    • LaVolpe

1st game is in rain delay & is official. Second game may not be played due to weather.
I used similar logic, but chose Detroit; though it appears a vast majority of streakers though likewise.

    • LaVolpe

Paid for me so far: Valverde comes in for save with 2 run lead. Should up my streak or take down the leaders with me.

    • champion_88

I would love to know why they bothered opening the stadium if they were just going to go into a rain delay right away and immediately cancel it?

  5. champion_88

With the field being so barren with all the rainouts, I decided to just revert back to the trusted Ichiro Suzuki to push me to 7 games, since I have to make a pick every day the rest of the year to even have a chance at the consolation prize.

    • champion_88

Damn…and I really considered Cabrera too, but was worried about the walks.

      I didn’t want an 0 for 2 line with 2 walks.

Either way, I am 1 step closer from being boxed out of contention.

  6. yanksgiantsdevils33

Even two chances didn’t give me a save with the Red Sox … the Hated Red Sox winning by 4+ in both games so they pulled another game up in the standings and gave me no save. Whomever got the idea for the FR BTS game, it’s a nice idea but everyday is always leading to a dam pause. I miss the survivor game where I can actually have hope of building a streak and not pausing 8 days out of 10.

    • champion_88

I thought of the FR BTS game almost immediately after the HR BTS game was created several years ago, but thought of this same problem back then and thought MLB would never do it.

Then again, some people on the BTS leaderboards pause a lot and still have huge streaks, so it can be a successful strategy.

Infield single by Ichiro to the 2nd baseman in the 6th Inning pushes me to 7 games!!!!!!!!!!!

I wish I could have seen that live, since I cannot picture how you could get an infield single there.

I just hope it does not get changed to an error later on tonight though, since the Mariners have just 3 hits through 6.2 IP so far.

    • champion_88

I must have just read it wrong.

Infield single to SS deflected by 3B.

Thanks official scorer for not calling that an error!

  8. yanksgiantsdevils33

I hope the Tigers win a close one against the Twins. I was not able to switch to Mariano Rivera in time and the Yankees are playing a DH. Speaking of the DH I don’t think most people realized that there would be a DH because there are a lost of Robinson Cano, Derek Jeter and Curtis Granderson picks.
What are the odds of all 3 getting at least 1 hit in both games? +1000?

    • yanksgiantsdevils33

All 3 went O fer in the 1st game as my Yankees really disappointed in a 0-2 loss. Game 2 won’t mean anything unless you took Mark Teixeira. As for my pick I lucked out with a 9th inning single by Jhonny Peralta. 🙂

  9. champion_88

Today’s luck really turned for me around 1130 AM, when my power was restored and I was able to change my backup rest pick to Corey Hart, who went 2 for 3 to tie my season high streak of 8 games!

    • LaVolpe

2nd place leader @ 33 games wasn’t as lucky. Prince let him down. Now need the leader to get a bit unlucky this upcoming week.
