ordonezBTS.jpgSecond-place competitors knightbomb and smithdog52 inched closer to the top spot after a 1-for-3 night from Magglo Ordonez extended their streaks to 33 games. Things weren’t as fortunate for scasmflop, whose streak came to a close at 29 games. His departure turned fourth place into a two-way tie between bruinscup72 and hinnami, who were rewarded by one-hit performances from Dustin Pedroia (1-for-5) and Manny Ramirez (1-for-4). Moving into a tie with pupway10 for sixth place were jfb17 and vsh_vs, whose streaks improved to 29 thanks to Brian Roberts (2-for-4) and Ichiro Suzuki (3-for-3).

With several competitors falling out of the running, the number of fans still able to reach 57 games fell to 188.

he’s probably not saying it since it’s still in the high thousands. I believe the people still alive for the 57 one have at least an 18 game hit streak now since including today, theres 39 more days left in beat the streak. So you’re still alive for the 48 if you have at least a 10 game hit streak right now. I’d guess in a week he’d start giving out how many people are left for the 48 one.

  2. backrubs

you would be right about that, one does need to be at 18 before the games of today (thursday) and run the table to make 57.
so many people took DLee and Soriano today as I was looking at the leaders of active streaks..17 people with streaks of 19 or more picked these two and they both went hitless. 10 more who were at 18 also had them, so there is almost 30 people less now.
matt holliday was picked by 42 people who have streaks of 18 or more, so he paid off big time.

tough pickin on the short schedule. lot more fun when u get a descent streak, and nerve racking . good luck all shooting for 49 tuff pick today with derek lee. gotta start lookin at weather reports now cant afford rainouts lol. we all need a horse to take us to the top

  4. backrubs

some more numbers, i was bored today.
this is all in regard to people with 18 or more streaks.
For thursday nites games, Ichiro was picked by only 7.
Utley by 6, JReyes by31 and Chipper by 3

Theriot, DeRosa, MRamirez, Winn, Loney and Kemp have kept 30 hit streaks alive, also

  5. jagx

ALEEXXX RIOOSS 2-2! lol. That was my pick for today. This is like the 5th time i’ve second guessed myself during my streak, and at least 3rd time in which my first pick (derrek lee today) didn’t get a hit and the guy i changed to did get a hit. I think i might get into the top 10 after today since 5 of the 15 people ahead of me picked either soriano or lee.

Jweisinger, a much more interesting stat is that 2 people with streaks of 18 or more didn’t even make a pick! I remember earliar this week a guy has a 21 game hit streak too and didn’t make a pick. At least pick someone! It’s for 1 million dollars! lol

  6. backrubs

Yes i saw that two people not picking.
thats Crazy if you ask me.
so who are you learning towards tomorrow?
im liking the numbers brian roberts has against mussina

  7. jagx

At the moment Curtis Granderson is my pick. Brian Roberts is a close second for me. He has great numbers against Mussina, and mussina isn’t a guy to walk batters, so Roberts will get his chances.

The reasons i picked Granderson is because of these:
1- Mussina is basically an ace this year, Bannister isn’t.
2- Granderson is on the road, which means the 9th inning is guarenteed, unlike Roberts (If you dont see why this is important, just look at Derrek Lee’s game today. Only 3 plate appearances in a 3-2 cubs win, and he was left on deck in the bottom of the 8th in a home win for the cubs. He ended up going 0-3 and screwed a lot of bts players lol). So basically i’m looking for the guy with more chances too. It doesn’t hurt that i trust the tigers offense to put up runs more than the orioles too.
3- Yankees are desperately needing a win, and with rasner and pavano pitching the next 2 days after mussina, I won’t be surprised if Mussina picks his game up and dominates
4- Granderson is facing a pitcher who doesn’t have strikeout stuff, and Granderson usually gets on when he actually makes contact.

But honestly, you might just see Roberts next to my name come tommorow. It’ll either be him or granderson.
