Beat the Streak Report: Thursday, May 26
Extra innings giveth, and extra innings taketh away.
If you entrusted your streak to any hitter involved in yesterday’s Reds-Phillies tilt, you’re probably walking around with a little extra swagger this morning. Fifteen of 16 starting hitters in that one recorded at least one base knock, which isn’t surprising given that the game went 19 innings and most of those guys saw eight or nine plate appearances.
The Giants and Marlins also needed bonus baseball to settle their score last night, and the three extra frames (Three? Danys Baez is not impressed!) provided opportunity for BTS stalwarts John Buck and Greg Dobbs to get on the board. So, uh, cue the old saying about the blind squirrel and the nuts if you advanced on one of those two.
The big news in San Fran, however, was the loss of Giants catcher Buster Posey. Our current MLB streak leader at 13 games, Posey suffered an apparent leg injury attempting to block the plate in the 12th inning. We’re only a dentist, but this does not look promising. The 24-year-old carried many a Streaker during a 21-game tear last summer and entered Wednesday’s action 14-for-35 (.400) over his last nine contests.

Today is the day where somebody could have won $5 million-plus if they had picked perfectly every day. I wonder how many dream-crushing resets have occurred in these first 57 days? With my hit early today, my record is 41-13-3 (three rainouts). I’d like to be up around 48 at WORST.
Guess who I picked? The only O fer on the entire Orioles.
I don’t play to get the only ####ing O fer on a team. This is the 3rd time this screw job has happened. Thanks a lot Guerrero every single other Oriole hitter can get a hit but you.
First Jeter goes O fer 6 braking my biggest streak of the season at 15, then A Rod went O fer against these Os and then he was walked on his 4th PA and then he got no 5th PA because he was removed from the game. Now Guerrero gets 5 ABs with the 5th AB in extra innings and goes O for 5.
The Orioles hit into a force at the plate and then a double play so the game is still going on! 🙂

I had Guerrero too today.
That is 2 last AB hits in a row.
I had Buster Posey last night.
He got the hit in the 9th inning and then broke his leg before coming up again.
I wonder if Guerrero will suffer a similar fate tomorrow?

One thing I am a bit confused about is if any of the hits in that 8th inning for the Red Sox count?
I remember during the ’08 World Series, they mentioned that if the commissioner had not exercised his discretion, the Rays still would have lost the game, because the full inning was not completed.
So, A-Gone got his only hit in the 8th inning, but the Tigers did not get to bat.
Does A-Gone’s hit not count?
If so, he would be 0 for 4.
They did count it Champion. If you look at the results of BTS he went 1 for 5 so they counted the hit but the game was called in the 8th inning.
