Beat the Streak Report: Monday, August 22
With some help from Robinson Cano, Joe Turner became the second member of 2011’s 40-Game Streak Club yesterday.
After making Joe sweat for five innings, the Yankees second baseman cranked a double off Twins reliever Phil Dumatrait to lead off the sixth. The base knock tied our current leader with Jonathan Roy for the season lead, and a successful pick today would place Turner alone in pole position for the $10,000 season-high prize
And ohbytheway, reaching 41 games today would leave him just 16 days short of becoming first streaker Streaker to break Joe DiMaggio‘s 56-game record and claim the $5.6 million grand prize.

Derek Jeter can’t be counted on and that is coming from a Yankee fan. I was away on Saturday and Sunday but I was at 6 after Friday and now I’m at 1. Thanks a lot Jeter (and Burnett for causing Jeter to only get 2 ABs/3 PAs). 😦
i was at 17 with jeter on Saturday. it didnt help that he was taken out in the 7th inning with the twins up 9-1
Anybody playing FR-BTS (Fast Relief BTS)?
I have Axford today trying to get a 7-gamer. Since that game doesn’t have a group option and the leader board bites being only to display top 34 or so… figure I’d use this blog for FR-BTS also. How else can we see how we all are doing?
I’m at 5. Regarding Axford, do you need a save in both games of the DH?
Nope. Per the rules, only if pitching in a save situation in both games then YES. So, it allows you to take your chances. I look at this way. Most DH are split. Even if 1 team wins both, odds are really low that saves occurred in both. I like those odds when I’m trying to catch up to someone.
I know I got the rules down too. I’ve already done this earlier with Papelbon in a DH. He got a save in one & didn’t pitch in the other.
Though, even if you got 2 saves in one day; your streak only goes up by one
You can access groups in fast relief BTS here.

Hey, that’s great. Thanks.
Axford looks like a good choice then. I went with Betancourt of the Rockies.
The BTS picks from the Brewers-Pirates DHer are currently in serious jeopardy as is Joe Turner since he has the same pick as I do and I have a losing streak of 3.
If you want to gamble a bit; another DH tomorrow. Last week was my best so far: 4 saves in 5 days & that got me on the board quickly. Mariano yesterday moved me to 6. The goal is highest streak of 20 or more by end of season.
I went through a 9 day period with 8 DNPs and only 1 save. I have Craig Kimbrel tonight, the Braves are up 3-0 so I hope the lead doesn’t get bigger.
We both got unlucky today. An easy save situation for you & Venters will get the save unless he lets more than 1 on base. For me, had an easy save situation until Brewers scored 6 runs in 8th/9th innings in 1st game of DH. Appears Brewers will lose 2nd game unless they get 6 or more runs again in the 8th/9th innings. Oh well. Better to lose a save opportunity than blowing a save.
Unbelievable even when I get a save opportunity my pick doesn’t pitch. What was the Braves manager thinking? Venters walked the 1st 2 but he stayed in and struck out the next 2 and then got a force out from Soriano. This is now 9 of my last 11 picks have been DNPs. How do you get saves in this game? lol At least it wasn’t a blown save like the Cardinals closer did.
No one in our group got a save today: Blowouts by MIL(gm1) & COL. BOS & MIL(gm2) lost, ATL gave save to Venters, And Valverde closed with a 4 run lead.
Spoke too soon. Dave55 will most likely get one today after all. COL can’t close with an 8 run lead in 9th. HOU scores 3, then loads the bases, 1 out, putting the tying run on deck (save situation). Betancourt will come in with a 5 run lead for a save.
the BTS leader took Tulowitzki. i think this is an interesting choice
and someone at 23and at 20 didnt make a pick (oops)
is it me, or does anyone else wonder how finelin has only advanced once in the last three weeks and is somehow able to keep picking people on the DL after all this time
And what about jvairo’s 7 identical picks. What’s up with that?
At one point back in May I think, I counted over 20 picks from that player. Even cheating, this game is so tough to beat. No offense, but hopefully Tulo goes 0-1 today 😉
There was one point about a month ago I found about 35 entries that had his name.
Well, there goes my season.
I was already right on the edge of contention heading into today and now the leader moved onto 41, while Choo didn’t even play, leaving me needing 2 extra days at the end of the season, just to tie.
The only positive on the night is that Tulo only got 1 hit, so I’d have a good chance at winning that tiebreaker.
