Yesterday’s results

Only five Florida Marlins managed a hit against Kyle Kendrick and the Phillies last night. Unfortunately for soxwhite24, Jorge Cantu wasn’t one of them.

hollidayBTS3.jpgYesterday’s BTS leader saw his 36-game wash away as Cantu went 0-for-3 with a walk in the Marlins’ loss. With his departure, new leader bassman moved up from second place to take over the top spot. Bassman remains one step away from 30-game territory, however, as Matt Holliday was unable to play in last night’s postponed contest between the Rockies and Nationals.

Five competitors with 24-game streaks used yesterday’s leaderboard upheaval to jump into a third-place knot. Three of those fans went with Magglio Ordonez, who slammed a seventh-inning double to increase his lifetime mark against White Sox hurler John Danks to 9-for-14. The other two third-place competitors kept their streaks alive on the strength of 1-for-5 efforts from Ryan Braun and Hanley Ramirez.

BTS leader soxwhite24 took another step towards immortality last night, extending his streak to 36 games on the strength of Xavier Nady’s 1-for-4 effort against the Rangers. Nady helped soxwhite24 draw within 12 games of season-leader spooky93 after singling in the fourth inning off Texas starter Matt Harrison.

utleybts2.jpgTuesday’s fourth-place contestant, boobsmcoakes, lost his spot on the leaderboard after not making a pick. His departure left the door open for newcomer cali_kid, who joined the Top 5 after Chase Utley went 1-for-3 against Josh Johnson and the Marlins.

The rest of the Top 5 received clutch performances from their players to keep pace with the leader. Second-place contestant bassman put himself one game shy of the 30-game plateau by capitalizing on Dustin Pedroia’s 1-for-5 night against the Royals. Third-place competitor 92gm stayed alive thanks to Alex Rios (1-for-4), while taswanso moved up to the fourth spot after Russell Martin scraped out a 1-for-5 effort against St. Louis.

BTS leader soxwhite24 cleared another hurdle in his chase of history last night, extending his streak to 35 games on the strength of Kevin Youkilis’ 1-for-3 effort against the Royals. Youkilis delivered a first-inning RBI double off Kansas City starter Gil Meche to keep the BTS leader in the hunt.

rodriguezsucksBTS.jpgTwo members of yesterday’s Top 5, mxedout and t-birds8, saw their streaks revert to zero courtesy of hitless efforts by Alex Rodriguez (0-for-3) and Alfonso Soriano (0-for-4). A-Rod entered the day with seven RBIs in seven at-bats against Texas starter Vicente Padilla, but was unable to deliver against Padilla and the Rangers ‘pen. Similarly, Alfonso Soriano was stifled against Astros pitcher Brian Moehler, despite having collected four hits in seven career at-bats against the hurler entering Monday’s action.

Competitors boobsmcoakes and taswano took advantage of the opening and surged onto the leaderboard, extending their streaks to 23 games thanks to solid efforts by Prince Fielder (1-for-3) and Ichiro Suzuki (2-for-3).

BTS leader soxwhite24 stretched his streak to 34-games over the weekend, making him the first leader in four weeks to hold onto the top spot through a weekend. Last night, soxwhite24 capitalized on Matt Holliday’s two-homer barrage against Ricky Nolasco and the Marlins.

hollidayBTS2.jpgThe
leader was the sole member of Friday’s Top 5 to last through the
weekend. Newcomers bassman, mxedout and t-birds8 took advantage of the
turnover and fought their way into a three-way tie for second-place
with 27-game streaks. Fifth-place competitor 92gm, who stayed alive
last night thanks to Matt Stairs (2-for-3), rounds out the Top 5 with a
24-game streak.

Yesterday’s most-picked player, Alfonso Soriano, rewarded fans for their faith by going 3-for-5 with a solo homer against the Pirates. Albert Pujols, who was chosen by 4.8% of fans, was the only member of the Top 5 most-picked players who couldn’t deliver a hit. The All-Star first baseman was held hitless in four trips to the dish against Brett Myers and the Philadelphia ‘pen.

kempBTS.jpgThe rest of the Top 5 all extended their own streaks to keep pace with the leader last night. Second-place contestants bgibbs14 and j.ves stretched their streaks to 27 games each thanks to Holliday and Matt Kemp. Fourth-place competitor redfuture, who changed his name from trevislunford yesterday, stayed one game out of second place after Jhonny Peralta scratched out a 1-for-6 effort against Detroit. Contestants jsbc27 and kbharvey maintained their spot at the rear of the Top 5 thanks to Geoff Jenkins (2-for-3) and Conor Jackson (1-for-5).

Co-leaders lupah99 and sherbrookaz saw their 28-game streaks come to a halt last night courtesy of hitless efforts by James Loney (0-for-4) and Carlos Guillen (0-for-3). Guillen entered the game with a lifetime .410 AVG (16-for-39) against Cleveland righty Paul Byrd but was unable to collect a hit off the hurler, much to the chagrin of the 5.6% of fans that made him the day’s most-picked player.

wrightBTS3.jpgNew leader soxwhite24 moved up from third place to the top spot, but not without some drama. The new leader’s pick, David Wright, entered the top of the 8th inning at 0-for-3, but delivered a single off reliever Doug Waechter to complete a 1-for-4 night.

Fifth-place competitor trevislunsford surged onto the leaderboard thanks to Conor Jackson, who went 1-for-5 in Arizona’s tilt with San Diego last night. trevislunford is the lone passenger on the Top 5 caboose just one day after five competitors were tied for fifth place with streaks of 24-games.

New weekend, same story.

For the third straight weekend, a BTS leader lost control of the top spot as Friday’s co-leaders bailtard and oldeguy were unable to extend their streaks through Monday. Replacing the fallen co-leaders are a pair of new ones, lupah99 and sherbrookaz, who carry 28-game streaks. And though lupah99 held a one-game lead over sherbrookaz going into the weekend, sherbrookaz moved into a first-place tie after lupah99’s pick, Joe Mauer, did not play in last night’s affair with the Indians.

longoriaBTS.jpgMeanwhile, Top 5 newcomers soxwhite24 and terpfan1 used the weekend to surge into the third and fourth spots on the leaderboard. Yesterday, they saw their streaks continue thanks to Evan Longoria (2-for-4) and Mark Teixeira (2-for-2), respectively.

Five other competitors scratched their way into a fifth-place tie over the weekend. The knot, featuring contestants with 24-game streaks, represents the second Top 5 logjam of the past five days. Last Thursday, four fans were also tied for fifth place with 24-game streaks.

Yesterday’s results

For the first time this week, a BTS leader managed to hold onto the top spot for more than one day. Co-leaders bailtard and oldeguy  extended their streaks to 29 games on the strength of David Wright, who delivered an RBI single in the third inning of New York’s victory over Philadelphia.

wrightBTS2.jpgThe co-leaders were among 7.7% of BTS competitors, including third-place fan lupah99, who chose Wright, making him the day’s second most-picked player. But not all fans were so lucky. Albert Pujols, the day’s most popular pick, went 0-for-2 with a walk and a sacrifice fly in the Cardinals’ loss to the Brewers. His hitless performance halted the streaks of 8.2% of BTS competitors, including yesterday’s third-place fan justablooper.

Four competitors entered yesterday’s action tied for fifth place with 24-game streaks. The knot was quickly unraveled, though, when tom_cicini (Jermaine Dye) and blazin19 (Chase Utley) were the victims of hitless performances from their picks.
