Beat the Streak Report: Weekend, August 26-28

Take a good look now, Joe Turner — this could be your final BTS Report in sole possession of first place on the season leaderboard.

Phils4ever75 advanced to 38 games with Skip Schumaker (!!!) last night, meaning that they could tie Turner atop the season standings by the end of Sunday’s action. Even if Phils falls, letsgonets44 is lurking a game back at 37.

Enjoy the weekend, Streakers — we just might be meeting a few more of you come Monday.

Joe Turner, don’t get too comfortable in that season leader chair.

Robinson Cano advanced Phils4ever75 to 37 games last night, tying our current leader with Hank Woods for third place in the season standings.

For those of you not keeping score at home, Phils would need five more correct picks to set the $10,000 pace and another 15 after that to multiply the potential prize by 560.

Home Run Beat the Streak pick:

Joey Votto: (24 home runs this season) vs. Marlins starter Chris Volstad

Beat the Streak Report: Wednesday, August 24

Well, that’s it and that’s all for Joe Turner‘s Streak.

Mark Teixeira‘s 0-for-5 against Brandon McCarthy and the A’s last night sealed our season leader’s fate at 41 games. Losing a season-best run on a player who entered Tuesday’s action batting .251? Yikes! Joe certainly had his reasons, though, and that’s gotta be worth something — potentially $10,000, to be specific.

Phils4ever75 is now in the current BTS drivers seat at an impressive 36 games, with letsgonets44 right behind them at 35. Don’t get too comfy on the season throne just yet, Joe.

Ryan Braun: (25 home runs this season) vs. Pirates starter Aaron Thompson

Beat the Streak Report: Tuesday, August 23

Ladies and gentlemen, your new BTS season leader: Joe Turner.

The current champ summited Mt. 41 Games last night, reaching the peak on the wings of Troy Tulowitzki‘s fifth-inning single off Astros starter Brett Myers.

That hit put Joe in line for a $10,000 payday and moved him just 16 days short of earning 5.6 million real American greenbacks.

Twenty-one past Streakers have reached 41 games, but only seven have survived as high as 44 and none lasted longer than Mike Karatzia’s 49-day run in 2007. Joe — your real test starts now.

Beat the Streak Report: Monday, August 22

With some help from Robinson Cano, Joe Turner became the second member of 2011′s 40-Game Streak Club yesterday.

After making Joe sweat for five innings, the Yankees second baseman cranked a double off Twins reliever Phil Dumatrait to lead off the sixth. The base knock tied our current leader with Jonathan Roy for the season lead, and a successful pick today would place Turner alone in pole position for the $10,000 season-high prize

And ohbytheway, reaching 41 games today would leave him just 16 days short of becoming first streaker Streaker to break Joe DiMaggio‘s 56-game record and claim the $5.6 million grand prize.

Current leader Joe Turner streaks toward season high

Streakers, current leader Joe Turner has answered the call — well, the email, actually.

After reaching 37 games with Miguel Cabrera last night, Joe disregarded the (FAKE!) BTS Report Curse and agreed to answer a few questions about himself, his life and his favorite foods.

First off, Joe works for a beverage company and lives with his wife, Jennifer, near St. Paul, MN.

He once met Herb Brooks (yup, this interview took a serious turn toward the upper Midwest), roots for the Twins and misses the glory days of Kent Hrbek.  Don’t we all, Joe.

In Streaking news, Joe has been playing BTS for a couple years and claims to be a “big fan” of the Report. #yabuddy. Like season leader Jonathan Roy, he mostly picked random players until his streak reached 20 games. Uh oh, the commenters aren’t going to like that. Forget the previous sentence — Joe actually conducts daily six-hour ballpark wind pattern studies and purchased industrial-grade computer graphing software to help make his selections. I swear, that’s (definitely not) what he told me.

Annnd since you’ve all been waiting for it: Joe’s favorite food is his wife’s taco pie. It’s unclear what taco pie consists of, but if it involves both tacos and pie, it cannot be un-delicious.

Good luck to Joe the rest of the way.  Feel free to offer your congratulations, Mall of America stories and taco pie recipes in the comments.

Current leader jturner trucked ahead to 36 games last night thanks to a 3-for-4 effort from Rangers third baseman Michael Young. Interview questions have been sent out, so hopefully we can all find out a little more about the mystery man tomorrow morning. Foreshadowing! Dun-dun-dunnnnn

Elsewhere, mjb22nml (33 games) and ctjohnson84 (31 games) have crept up the leaderboard in turner’s shadow. Just 33 Streakers have broken the 30-game threshold this season, so that accomplishment is certainly nothing to snort and/or sneeze at.

Enjoy Wednesday’s answer key below. The Rays and Red Sox kick things off at 1:35.

You may remember that doorsrule failed to respond to my missive two weeks ago, only to see their Streak go down in flames at 36. The lesson: the former “BTS Report jinx” has clearly been reversed. Click “delete” at your own peril, Turner.

Annnnd down goes Dan Uggla. The Braves second baseman saw his 33-game hitting streak go up in smoke after an 0-for-3 effort against Matt Garza, Darwin Barney and the rest of the Cubs on Sunday afternoon.

Current BTS leader jturner fared considerably better over the weekend, reaching 34 games thanks to Matt Kemp yesterday. Turner could be in a position to overtake the season lead — and the 10 G’s that come with it — as soon as Sunday.
